Anyone want to return to Kirkwall for an expansion?

Now, before you go throwing rocks at me, hear me out.

First off, Inquisition did a great job of delivering large environments with plenty of distractions, side quests and collectibles. It feels like 1 area in Inquisition accomplishes what DAII was striving for with focusing on Kirkwall. Simply re-imagining it with Inquisition's new setup in mind may lead to Kirkwall actually feeling like a bustling city-state.

Imagine, if you will, a Kirkwall comparable in size to the size of the Storm Coast, each area far more well defined than in DAII. A gleaming Hightown, a Lowtown where dust is constantly kicked up, a dank and decrepit Darktown, docks that actually look like ships could come to port in them. Of course, it is in need of rebuilding, which brings me to my next point.....

The process of travelling to, rebuilding and aiding Kirkwall could serve multiple goals. Travel to Kirkwall to unravel the Enigma of Kirkwall, whilst rebuilding it with your direction and recruiting allies to the Inquisition. Since the Enigma codex entries suggest that the Veil is thin in Kirkwall, it stands to reason that determining the cause could assist the Inquisition's efforts.

Finally, I feel like a return to Kirkwall would be a great way to give us a better glimpse at what DAII was doing with it's focus on one city, it'd allow DAII's faults to be ironed out with Inquisition's improvements, and it would be a great way to bring back and old characters that didn't make it into Inquisition already.

Okay, commence rock throwing.

You know this might happen actually.

When DA2 came out everyone went totally bananas that the story might not have an overall impact on the overarching plot of the franchise. Playing DAI now we know that is not true because of

Spoiler

Also, I think there were four expansions for DA2 that were planned, but only two were released. We might see some content from those two in this game by expansions etc.

Looking back, the only thing that ruined Dragon Age 2 were the environments and the cop-out story where nothing changed no matter who you sided with. If the Inquisitor went back to Kirkwall, it would obviously not have tons of repeated art assets and identical buildings.

I would preffer to have both arms and penis removed with absolutely no sedatives than returning to kirkwall... DA2 sucked such big dinosaur balls and i was happy that almost nothing of that crap was used... i don't want to return to that circle running non evolving place with parachutters and plotholes everywhere

Exactly what I'd like to see. I feel like Kirkwall was a missed opportunity. It could've shown us that RPGs can have one city and still be epic, but it didn't. It  could've been large enough to seem like a real city (as opposed to Denerim), but it wasn't. An expansion that takes us back there could show us it's true potential.

Yes. I was thinking about that the other day. Maybe also tie it together with one of Varrics books, could be cool. :3

Varric is as good writter as Nietzche... that means he only writes crap, half of Dragon Age universe (including Dorian and Varric himself) aggrees with that

Frankly, Im more into seeing the old characters (Aveline, Merril, etc.) than going into a remade Kirkwall. I suppose it would make a lot of sense to return, especially after that spoiled-war-freak-of-a-brat Sebastian does what he 'did' to Kirkwall...

The DLC should focus more on meeting the old characters. Im still halfway thru the game, but there seems to be no sign of Anders, Nathaniel or any of the former wardens in Awakening (Was hoping to see them in adamant fortress, but phooey)..

Please, no. Having Hawke back was already bad enough.

I agree, quetzocoetl. Exploring Kirkwall rebuilt with DA:I's level design philosophies would be awesome. To tell the truth, I actually really liked Kirkwall in DA2. I thought it was cool reading about the history of each of the city's locations and I think the level designers did a good job expressing that detail in the level art and composition. The only thing that ever bugged me was how all the interior cells reused the same level prefabs over and over again, but to my mind, that is a separate issue, and obviously something Bioware doesn't care to repeat.

This is also a good idea because Kirkwall would offer something new to the scope of DA:I, since there aren't really any big city levels to explore in the game currently.

My only concern is that going to Kirkwall and potentially meeting characters from DA2 would feel wrong to me if Hawke weren't there. So if it were up to me I'd want to play such a campaign as Hawke, or with Hawke in the party, or with Hawke being an important supporting character in whatever story would be told.

Cassandra disagrees though :D.

This was present in the game trailer - hardly qualifies as a spoiler.

If that's your level for spoilers, then you should report the OP too. He implies clearly that Kirkwall does not appear as a playable city in Inquisition. You have the report button to yout left, under the avatar.

I wouldnt mind a dlc where our character from DA:I can explore Kirkwall and see what our choices in DA2 and DA:I has done to the city. Personaly I wish we could return to cities like Denerim (I have only done Val Royeaux and Hinderlands in DA:I, so if there is a visit to Denerim in the game, please do not spoil it for me).

I do. As much as I want a DLC around Ferelden, mostly for closure with old companions. I feel like there was so much potential with the DA2 companions being left out except for Varric... I want to see Aveline, Fenris, Anders, Merril, Isabela, the Hawkes... Charade... I don't like texts, I want physical manifestations of the characters.

As much as I loved Ferelden and Kirkwall in DAO and DA2, I think I'd rather head to Tevinter, Antiva, or Rivain.
