Yeah, I remember ICQ. Can't believe they're still going after AOL sold them.
Now, anyone remember IRC?
Mirc...... I have been known to still use that once in a while.
I remember both IRC and ICQ, but I didn't ever use either of them all that much - I seem to recall that I could only get IRC to work through my Ethernet connection at college. And hardly anybody seemed to use ICQ who didn't also have AOL and/or AIM, so there didn't seem to be much point to it as far as I was concerned.
I started using the internet around 1994, mostly AOL, newsgroups, and the web. For chatting, I generally used AOL's IM and chat rooms. I was a huge X-Files fan back in the day, and we had weekly post-episode chats as well as "themed" chat rooms on the week nights. Occasionally I'd go into the Mulder/Scully relationship chat room and say "bzzzzzzzz" just to be a wise-ass. (If you saw the first X-Files movie, you can probably guess why Mulder/Scully shippers didn't much like bees.)
Anyone remember BBD?
The youth of today with its techno-gimmicks. I grew up writing letters, on PAPER!
And I'm only 25. Damnit, I'm not supposed to feel that old.
Oh yeah I used ICQ a lot back in the day.
I used ICQ for a day and I gave up.
I think I was 12.

What made you give up on it?
I just didn't like it, like you had to press shift + enter to send the message and everybody I knew was on AIM anyway.

I never bothered with ICQ. Never saw a reason to since AIM was more popular and everyone I knew used it.

All my highschool education and below was done on paper. This hindered me greatly because I have a very bad handwriting.
I was happy when I was told I could hand in my university assignments printed out.

Same here.
IRC and MSN especially was my jam. Born too late for ICQ.
When chatrooms were actually a thing. It's weird because I'm still fairly young, but when I see and hear about teenagers using laptops given to them by the school for their entire curriculum, I just recoil in shock and horror.
*points old and crooked finger* Back in my day sonny, we had pens and paper and notebooks!
Of course. Used it quite a lot. Especially in tandem with IRC.
