I created an area which I linked to the world map via the tutorial found here http://www.theengine...cation-tutorial

It was the random encounter area where the three mages are fighting darkspawn. I wanted to create an area where you can have some one on one dialog with Alistair and I created a copy aliatair and placed him in the area and connected the new dialog I created to the new npc. I've also established the stage in that area and everything.

My problem: the copy Alistair does not show up in game. He's not in the area at all.

Any thought on what I need to do to get him to show up?

Under the area editor he is listed under the creatures placed in the area but I cannot seem to figure out why he's not showing up there in game.

Here's a screen shot of what I see in my toolset. The alistair copy is there and I have the stage set to go with where I placed him.

you have him in your party?

honestly I couldn't tell you but good luck getting a useful reply. I have posted two questions here with no help.

Thanks for the reply.

He's not a party character, he's a npc character I created to just stand in the are and you can go up, click on him, and talk to him.

My problem is that for some reason he's not showing up in the area. Maybe it has to do with the exporting? Maybe I need to do a builder to player export to see if it works, maybe just exporting it is not enough.

in your models creature list right click the dublicated allistair and export him. to make assurance export your area once again. your custom dialog has to be exorted too. that should work^^

to simplify this process i created appropriate resource folders within my module, click "display all resources", right click my module folder and export it all.

Semper, thanks for the response.

So you're saying export the npc, then export the area again as well as my dlg file.

I'll give it a whirl and see how it goes.

Ok, I went into the palette window and exported the copy alistair creature file, then the new dlg I created, and then the area.

Loading game right now to see if it works. *crosses fingers*

dunno if the toolset gets problems with the dublicated allistair and approriate scripts. if he just stands there for dialog and is not recruitable i would rename him^^

hmmm...in the creatures list he's named as alistair_double but maybe its the fact that the name that appears in game is the same. I'll change that and see if that helps.

Ah! I just noticed that in the creature options I set the "Character" to Alistair. This is something that pulls face fx files or something along those lines so I changed this to none. I dunno why I set that. :P

Let me see if that did it.

It seems just changing that setting didn't do it. Let me try renaming as well.

Nope, changing the name did not change the fact that the npc is not there....hmmmm.... this is very odd. ...

I may try just recreating that whole area and seeing if that fixes it. Bummer.

Can you walk right up to the spot he is supposed to be? He is placed in a location accessable and that has a walk mesh correct? Is the stage place for him assigned to him? (Just flinging out ideas here.)

Yup, I can walk right up to where I placed him in the area file and he's not there. The area is nice and open and I can walk right up to where he should be.

Thanks for the reply Beerfish. I'll keep trying and looking through and see if I can find out why he's not showing up.

When I look at the area in the toolset he's there. He's not hidden, when I click on him in the area his box is yellow not red.

Good idea. I'll toss in other npcs and see if they show up.

If they don't then I think I can narrow it down to something I did with the area, and if they do show up then I know is the npc i created.

Thanks Semper!

Hmmm....tested it and no npcs are showing up at all in the area. Could this be some setting in the area?

OK so I realized what I was missing. *facepalm* My add in module has no script.

Of course!

So the area doesn't know to spawn the npc in that area. Now just to figure out how to work scripting since I know basically nothing about that *goes off to hunt for scripting tutorials*
