After going into the Fade with Blackwall, Cole and Dorian, I'm curious about different companion combinations in different places, who people took where, what conversations they had, etc, etc.

For example, what observations does Solas make about the fade? Who is/was your ideal party to take on certain quests? Any recommendations on who I should take places in the future?

I've only just finished the story quest that lets you enter the Fade, so please keep any story spoilers beyond that under tags! Non-story related companion spoilers are fine. I already know about Solas'... fate, just not specific details around it. Same with Blackwall. Some spoilers are just impossible to avoid. But if you're unsure, just put it under tags.  :P

I'm having a blast with Team Mage; Dorian, Solas, and Viv. They talk a lot about magic, demons, and how tacky Solas's outfit is. It's great fun. Haven't brought the three of them on any story missions, just running around and getting their banters.

Also, bring Solas to the Solasian temple. He had a bunch of comments in there.

I have to say, I was surprised at how not relevant Varric was in the Grey Warden/Hawke quest. Same with Vivienne at Halamshiral. I mean, they had some content... like every other character. I will say, unless you really want a party with any other three companions, take Solas on end-game missions.

It took me a solid 15 minutes to decide whether or not to take Varric with me. But I just can't leave Cole behind anymore, he's far too fantastic (my heart was breaking for him in the fade), and I play a rogue so it's a bit impractical to have three in a party. Kind of glad I didn't miss out on too much.  :P

Taking Solas, and Sera on missions in the ruins in the Exalted Plains and Emerald Graves is a blast because they really snipe at each other a lot during these missions. Sera is the quinessential City Elf " who gives a #(&* about the past because we can't get it back while Solas keeps ranting at her about how she should be more supportive of her people.

Bull wants to fight dragons when you first see them and if cassandra is in your party she just comes back with you cant be serious type comments.  She does the same if bull isnt in the party though too....

Dorian and varric make comments in the dwarven ruins in the hissing wastes.  Dont know if its just any mage and varric, but i had dorian

I liked taking sera in the fade. Chick started freaking out. And she still comments about it when exploring.

Do you at any point loose some of her approval if you take her with you?

Maybe afterwards if you don't comfort her. She was terrified and afterwards is going to be pretty upset about the whole experience. Sera and Iron Bull are my favorites for that quest. Blackwall adds a little to the first part but it's probably better to just take Cole for team wimpy lol.

Cassandra in the fade was nice, commenting on the person you meet there. And Solas, obviously is amazed by the fade.

Take Dorian with you on Bulls companion mission to the stom coast.

Dorian is also having a blast at the Ball.

Cole in the quest at Adamant Fortress (some people might not know where the Fade part is), and in Old Crestwood. Actually Cole everywhere, because he provides interesting if cryptic highlights about motivations and secret knowledge.

Solas and Dorian in the Arbor Wilds

Dorian in the Western Approach, with the Tevinter ruins and stuff

I like Cole, but it seems that when I take him with me, the guy comments on everything, whereas I'd rather hear Solas' comments. I wish you could prioritize those. :(

Anyway, yep, Cole's for the Wardens, since Varric doesn't say anything, Cassandra's a good option, too, because of who you meet in the Fade. And Solas pretty much everywhere, unless you don't like him - but bring him to the last quest missions, even if you really despise the guy.

Bring both Cole and Solas with you to the "Old Crestwood."

But they talk to each other, so it's all good to me. Solas is fairly quiet just on his own. I wish he had more to say in the elven temples, though he does have a few good comments.

I was incredibly surprised at how little interaction there was between Hawke and Varric for all the quests involving the champion. It seemed so out of character for the two of them to barely talk at all considering their relationship... even if rivals.

I loved taking Cole into the fade without Solas (I had both with me the first time and Solas would cut Cole off and tell him to relax).  Without him there you get to talk to Cole, and the way he freezes at the beginning when he's talking about not being able to get out... so adorably sad.

I know that if you take Sera into the Fade she practically wets herself from fear. She's completely panicked the whole time and chews you out after you escape.

Cassandra talks to two NPCs in Crestwood village when the Inquisitor start to talks to them (not a player prompt). Varric and Vivienne also comment on the area more than Dorian/IB from what I experienced.

Dorian has special dialog in Iron Bull personal quest.

Vivienne + Cassandra have quest specific banter in Champions of the Just.

Taking Iron Bull, Solas and Cassandra with me to the fade. Solas was just so excited while Bull was freaking out, it was hilarious and made the stick beating part even more funny.
