Lack of Good Female Romance Options...

So let me just start out by saying I love Dragon Age, so this is not a rant. Also my first post on here in years!

I am however a little disappointed by the heterosexual female romance options...in that'll there's only two. There seems to be more options for the same sex or 'swings both ways' camps.

#Spoiler# (Which I only know from reading, not from experience in game yet)

The only options for a male heterosexual character which, let's face it (don't try to start and take the moral high ground here) is going to be the MAJORITY of DA gamers (it just is statistically) are, Cassandra or Josephine.

Now this thread might start to sound harsh, but I think it's fair.

Cassandra is a tough tom-boy esque, scarred faced zealot. Not most guys first choice in women. And Josephine; who's simply not involved in the game enough to be interesting (I.e. Not a proper party member to form a close relationship with).

When we compare them with the obvious 'sex appeal' of say Morrigan and Isabella, or the cutesy Leliana and Merrill, the options are slim pickings to say the least. Again, harsh but fair for the majority.

Such a ridiculous thing to fret about in a game, but in truth the companion and romance options in Mass Effect and Dragon Age games have been one of the most interesting 'side quests' to explore.

Add a third (straight or bi, non elf-loving) lady Bioware! :)

Just do Cassandra's romance path. Seriously just do it and then come back. It's probably the best in the game though I've not seen what Cullen has to offer yet. A lot of people are put off by their first impression of her because she's not all long hair and big boobs "Get in bed with me i want your man meat". You need to get to know her and crack her shell to really get to the good parts and she really does have good parts.

Well the 'Majoritee' should get on with the new design that is given to them . The 'Majoritee' should look at the forum and notice that these topic is always the same 'Majoritee' that start them wich should give them a clue that it is how it is .

You get 2 Options like I do . I get Sera and Josephine . Why are you so shallow ?

If you brought Personality or anything that has 'Substance' maybe these kind of topic will be worth reading by those who make these games . But all you have to throw in there is ' Sex-appeal , Cutness ' .

Well the 'Majoritee' should start accepting what is given , cose none else is complaining like they are . Trust me , you are not the 1st and not the last .

This may sound harsh...but it's fair . So said you .

Maaaaaaaybe you and the 9274729292872 dudes who've made topics exactly like this should play the game and get to know the characters before you pass judgment?

Just a suggestion.

I like Cassandra and Josephine both, if for different reasons. In fact, it was a very difficult choice for my Inquisitor. Josephine is so much easier and pleasant to talk to while Cassandra's tough exterior is a bit harder to pierce but it's worth it to see her open up little by little. However, saying Cassandra's a zealot is a rather hasty, and inaccurate, judgement, at least as far as my playthrough is concerned.

Leliana was boring as hell in DA:O. I'm finding Josephine to be way cuter than Leliana, but that's just my opinion on things.

Yeah no doubt, they'll unveil her 'soft side', and I will. But it doesn't exactly say much for diversity. There's no dilemma of who to pick (unlike the second game for me personally).

Different people will struggle with different choices.

Part of me wanted this to be a heterosexual woman complaining for a change. I needed that boost today.

Yeah she's not a zealot by any means. She has strong faith but she doesn't blindly follow. She has some pretty good ideas on how the Chantry can change.

And yes. I'm aware others have complained about the same thing. But is that not what these forums are about? Raising a common concern? The fact so many others have raised it must surely mean it's a common thought and common gripe. Ergo, an area with potential to remedy.

We had that for Mass Effect 3 now it's the turn of the heterosexual men

Yeah, to be fair 'zealot' is too harsh. But it was a strong enough word to get my point across.

Except your suggestion is shallow and silly as "I want more babes to romance" Cassandra doesn't fit your opinion on attractive since she's not right away openly a girly girl. She doesn't wear outfits that show off her skin. That is what actually bothers you.

Not really ...

See , those who complained in the past . All they did is raise the claim that they are the Majoritee paying customers and should have more privilége then anyone else . Wich doesn't paint them as someone you wanna listen to or take their feedbacks .

If many peoples complains in a racist way......is it a Legitimate complain ? No .

And here the thing , you put 'The Majoritee'...yet , your complain is very 'Me Me Me' .

If you wanna speak for the 'Majoritee'....maybe you can add some substance..

Genuinely I'm not shallow - in life or in game ;-) . If we take say Merrill. She didn't have "big boobs". She was another race and had tattoos on her face. Obviously that's far from the norm, but she was cute as hell and therefore interesting to pursue.

I'm just not getting that from Cassandra or Josephine.

Yeah, the straight men are really being whiny about this one. It isn't like the lesbian and gay men are in the same boat of only two love interest and while elf women have four (which Solas being gated to only them making sense) and human women being three, if you play as dwarf or qunari you also only have two. I am sorry you aren't happy with your options, but get over it, I am not hundred percent happy with all of my options either.

Then the issue is with you . Not the game .

They are using a new engine and making a new game style . So it is normal it look different and feel different .

See for me , Merril was very....naive . I didn't feel right romancing her . She felt too young for me . I always romance Bela .

This thread again? Everyone take a drink!

And OP: I'm sorry that you don't like your options. But why make a new thread about this when there's so many other threads discussing the same thing?

There's nothing to remedy. You have the exact same number of options as lesbians and gay men... assuming you're only willing to play a straight male Inquisitor, for whatever reason.

Just because you don't like your options does not make them less of an option.

I must be the only straight guy thats actually content with the female romances available to me with this game.

I would give an explanation, however with my lack of intelligence and inability to get the point I want to make across, I'm more likely to make a paragraph that would just fan the flames to the next level.

(This is the part where I make a few bulletpoints about Josephine and Cassandra, but the words to describe how great they are don't spring to mind, so I'll just leave this here!)

Don't come away with the "it's only a game" chat. Yes, obviously. I'm not saying my world is crushed or Bioware should be lambasted haha. Far from it.

By the simple fact they choose to have this gameplay variation in the majority of their games, means it must be something of interest to them and their fans. It's obviously compelled all of you enough to talk about it!

So if they're going to include it, I'm more than entitled to voice an opinion on it. Let's also not take what I admitted myself to be a silly thread, personally.

The best things said sometimes takes the fewest words. Josephine is awesome. So's Cassandra. Everyone can go home.

Since the game came out, I've not seen much from gay men and women complaining about their two options- definitely not as much as guys like the OP. The fact that homosexual main characters were included at all means quite a bit.

The fact you still get complaints from certain straight male gamers like the OP says a lot at how they're so used to getting the lion's share of... well, not just romances, but a lot of things...
