Cassandra vs Josephine

Cassandra your in-world decissions affect her approval of you. You can talk to some random NPc and if she doesn't like what you said or did you will feel the effect.

Josephine seems limited to conversations and decisions revolving around her. Unless she has a hidden approval rating on your actions in the world.

You build a stronger bond with Cassandra because as a LI you can choose to take her with you and share your journey. Josephine feels like some biddy who is waiting for you to come home like a Door mat .

Uh.....okay.  So you like one of your options better than the other.  Isn't that pretty much normal?  You have two options and you like one and don't like the other.  Doesn't mean that you don't have a choice in romance.  It means you don't like one of your choices.

Not only is there no 'story reason' (as they claimed), but lady dwarves and qunari can't even flirt with him, I've heard.  That seems odd given that I've flirted shamelessly with him with both my male qunari AND dwarf.

Really? That's quite stupid. I guess BW just couldn't figure any legit reason for him not to be into qunaris and dwarves (without turning him rasist or sth) so they jus cut flirts off completely. Disapointing cause when they announced race-gates they promised that there would be story related reasons for them. Now it just seems like they didn't have time to animate.

Anybody mind if I get my sulking off my chest?

I want to romance Cassandra with my f!Inquisitor, Have ever since Haven on first playthrough. I've romanced Cullen and am working on Josephine and they feel like nothing compared to my chemistry with her. And of course this would be the game where I hate the male VAs and utterly fail the CC...

I think the 'story reason' is him pretty much spending his whole life in a circle, so he is used to seeing humans and elves. If romancing you can ask him whether he has a problem that your character is Dalish, he gets surprised saying that in the circle everyone gets treated the same. His reaction states that he did not even think about it until you ask. So probably for him its kind of natural to consider humans and elves.
I know its a rather silly reason, but thats the impression i got.

I wonder if Blackwall might be a better choice for you.  I can see similarities between Cassandra and Blackwall.  Not sure about either romance, though.  And I agree.  The two ladies that I was most interested in were Vivienne and Cassandra.  Strike One and Strike Two.  That's why my lady dwarf will likely end up with a guy, Blackwall actually (changing her from lesbian to bisexual).

Blackwall unfortunately doesn't have Cass' snark.

I know the feeling. And while I understand why Leliana is not available this time around, she is still the one I have the best chemistry with. Dang it! Josie is alright, Sera is... peculiar and Cass is awesome, but all the romances feel a little short to me. I wish there were more special conversations with our love interest of choice. Not necessarily as a cutscene, but more dialogue options.

Well. You got about as many as in Dragon Age 2. Still, female human/elf inquisitor do have a disproportionate amount of choices compared to everyone else. Dunno what the solution would have been with the current cast though. Make Sera bi? You'd lose your token lesbian though. Make the dwarven scout a romance could be neat, and perhaps a female quanari character would be cool.

But eh. Josie and Cassandra are cool enough for me.

I romanced Cass and i feel like the "after" is actually pretty good. Unlike previous games where it was basically a quest with an end in this after the "romance" scene I've had a lot of conversations with the heart icon related to a number of topics. There isn't much of a "let's talk" straightforward thing but it does play into a lot of other conversations you have -- with her at least no idea how the other relationships play out.

Heh. Blackwall was actually my first choice, but I let myself be scared away. Been kicking myself ever since and will be rectifying it next game.

I just wanted to get it off my chest,

It would. Might actually make me want to play a qunari character.

But the option isn't i like her because of 'Personality/looks/etc' its i don't like her because she of the type interaction i have with her in game or lack of interaction.

You don't get banter like you do with Cass in the party. Or Sera if you are a lesbian inquisitor

I would pay double for this game to romance Cassandra with a Femquisitor. That woman is gorgeous! Stunningly beautiful too  I would trade her for Sera in an instant.

Same number of options, different experience. So is it worth it if varric who would not be available anyway was straight and available to women, if Fenris was only available to men?

For me it's not worth it. Cause I know so many people who are in love with FemHawke x Fenris. And if Fenris had been straight I'd have never romanced him, and that romance is what got me into Dragon Age... Made me buy my own xbox even.

But there is no right answer because some people enjoy sexuality being part of a love interest's story whereas I don't. To me the point of a love interest is to be available to the player so the player can mold their gaming experience as they please. Having sexuality be part of a character's is fine for non-love interests or characters in novels or film. But again that's how I feel, and of course not everyone feels that way, and I don't think either side is wrong.

I'm just so incredibly grateful for DA2.

You still have an option.  You have reason why you don't like one of the options, but it doesn't mean that you don't have a choice.

I have a female Qunari who was able to flirt with him a couple times before she got shot down.

I honestly think the reason Cullen is race-gated is because the dev team didn't have time to create the proper animations. So, locking out Qunari and Dwarven women is a height-thing. If Cullen was chosen as a romance from the start this probably wouldn't have been an issue, just as Blackwall and IB have proper animations for all heights.

As a heterosexual male, I have always been content with two romance options for straight males.

Moreover, I like the Cassandra romance in DAI.

However, I would like to have (if at all possible) female Dwarf/Elf romances for straight males and not just human again.

Yea I think that's reason too. It's just that I kinda created qunari mage to romance him half year before race-gating was announced (I didn't even have any idea such thing existed) so I was pretty bummed out to find out he wouldn't like my qunari mage XD

...or the cutesy Leliana and Merrill, the options are slim pickings to say the least.

Someone hasn't spoken to Cass about Swords & Shields yet it seems

I never really associated story-reasons with Cullen and only Solas

I was slightly disappointed in this as well, but after I got the game the disappointment went away. After playing my Qunari for a while I couldn't imagine her being with Cullen anyways, lol. I haven't decided if she'll go with Blackwall or IB. I know how both romance arcs turn out but I'm kinda wondering how the dynamic would be with IB since the Qunari quizzy is Tal-Vashoth from the start.
