Lack of Good Female Romance Options...

I have a female Qunari who was able to flirt with him a couple times before she got shot down.

I honestly think the reason Cullen is race-gated is because the dev team didn't have time to create the proper animations. So, locking out Qunari and Dwarven women is a height-thing. If Cullen was chosen as a romance from the start this probably wouldn't have been an issue, just as Blackwall and IB have proper animations for all heights.

Ah, that's good to know.  I haven't gotten my lady dwarf to a flirt option with him yet, so I didn't have first hand experience.  Someone in another thread said that they never got the option.  Good to know that this isn't the case.

I agree with you about the reason why Cullen's race-gated.  I wish they would have just said that instead of trying to mask it as 'story reasons'.  I never heard them differentiate between Solas' and Cullen's romances.  When they said "story reasons" without clarifying which one, I assumed they meant both since they gave no indication otherwise.

As a heterosexual male, I have always been content with two romance options for straight males.

However, I would like to have (if at all possible) female Dwarf/Elf romances for straight males and were not just human again.

I can get behind this request.  The fact that 5 out of 6 of the options for straight males have been humans would drive me nuts.  That's one area where gay guys have actually ended up making out well.  We've had 2 humans, 2 elves, and a qunari.  That's a nice variety.  Although still noticeably dwarf-less......

I never really associated story-reasons with Cullen and only Solas

The story-related reason is they are weird looking...

No weirder looking than DA 2 elves and it didn't stop Merrill and Fenris......  They looked like a cross between reindeer and keebler elves.

The funny thing is that even though Cullen wasn't a chosen romance from the start, his feels like it's the most complete and inter-woven into the story for a straight female quizzy...at least in my opinion. I haven't played through the other two straight female romances myself, but I have watched the vids. Perhaps after I play through them it will change my mind.

Somehow Na'vi from Avatar came my mind from DA2 elves. I don't find Merrill and Fenris weird looking though, both are gorgerous ^^

I honestly enjoyed the romance option with Cassandra very much.

For starters, I never played DA 2, so I had no idea who she was in the beginning of DAI. In the first cutscene that featured her, I honestly thought she was a b*tch and she got on my nerves.

But when I got further into the game and got to know more about her character and her more womanly side (I won't go into details to avoid spoilers), I liked her a lot more.

What I think is the best about Cassandra is how BIoware made her a woman without being all frilly and relying so much on her sex appeal. She is depicted as strong and capable, and still attractive with her less-than-feminine qualities. She is 100% woman but she still can whoop ass in a character class (of a "Warrior") which isn't the stereotypical role for a female character to take.

You don't have to be bisexual to feel that there's not enough options for female romances.

I am one of those guys who started my first PC games in 1995 by playing the Tomb Raider series. My hero has been a woman ever since. That's just the way it is for me.

So, when I play Dragon Age: Inquisition I naturally pick a female protagonist (no, she doesn't HAVE to look like Lara Croft...). And there's the downside. Now I can't romance whomever I like in the game. You can do that in Skyrim. Especially after all the mods have arrived. And I like that.

Well, I understand the idea of making a story like Dragon Age: Inquisition. There is a meaning behind most of it. And probably also technical issues that crave limitations?

But I think Bioware should stop determinating who romances who, and let the players decide for them selves. After all this is a game and not real life. We buy it to be entertained. Not to be disappointed. That means having a good time, and not to be limited and locked into behaviors we don't want to.

It's absolutely bunkers not to create free romances in the game!

I disagree, I like that characters have their own preference.

By the same logic we should be able to determine the other characters backstories, looks and opinions. The characters are characters first and romances second. As it should be.

Hawke has weird tastes. Luckily the elves have gotten past this problem. Now if we could just get them to wear shoes.

Agreed. We've created a protagonist in a world of Bioware's creation. The writers have written their characters the way they wanted to. I think it would be wrong to ask them to change that, since the NPC's don't belong to us - they belong to Bioware. I think it would change the whole dynamic of the romance arcs, at least in my opinion. At least it did for me with DA:2. And please don't take my opinion to mean that I have a problem with bi-sexuality. It's just that the world doesn't work that way - it's up to us to figure out someone's personality to see if they would be into you.

Although animation issues may have played a part in it, Cullen's romance being race gated probably plays into his little mage fetish. Dwarves can't be mages, and there were no Kossith at the Circle Tower.

I wouldn't be suprised if his idea of foreplay is shoving Quizzy in a set of naughty mage robes, while he pokes her with his uhh... "magic wand".

Have you actually played through Cullen's romance? If anything, I think the idea of playing "naughty Mage and Templar" would make the poor broken man run away screaming.

I've played through his romance with both a mage and a warrior (Champion spec). To be honest, I think the warrior romance fit him better than the mage.

LOL :D :D

But honestly though I do think they was referring to Solas with the Story-reason without trying to specifically point him out

Or maybe Bioware should just leave romance out of the game entirely? That would make it more tolerable.

In my case I have no proper romance option. I can chose between Sera, a psycotic on crack, or Josephine where the romance is scraped?

In this game you can only have a REAL romance if you're playing as a male, and if you chose Cassandra Pendaghast. That's the way it is. Follow the oldfashion ways or get lost buddy! That is what the game tells me.

And that disappoints me seriously. Jez... we don't live in the middelages anymore.

It works in story, and it EDIT: fortuitously compels me to move outside my comfort zone to go after content. It would take me forever to get around to a Male Inquisitor play through if not for Dorian.

But they shouldn't change him just because some people can't play a male PC to experience his romance arc

That's actually a large reason why I don't like romance mods

I thought Josephine's romances was really good, and Sera's in her own way

Did I forget to mention the part where he stabs the naughty maleficar with his sword of mercy? :P

What about Cullen? I'm pretty sure I've read that his romance is just as in-depth as Cassandra's. His being an adviser changes nothing - I feel that you actually spend more time with him than with your companions, especially since you can't really talk to your crew outside of home-base.

I've also seen vids of IB and that one seems pretty in-depth as well.

Pretty much, that's what I got from Cassandra being one out of six romance options.

Ditto, I was perfectly happy with his friend arc. He and my quizzie are besties and they flirt constantly. I head-cannon that Cullen loves that she has a guy out there with her at all times when he can't be..and there's no competition for him to worry about, lol.

Josephine?

Sure, yes.
The romance is fine. You flirt, do her favors, flirt some more, she blushes, keeps the mask a bit and finally sends Leliana to be sure you are straight with her. Then you kiss her on the balcony. And then you kiss her in the garden, and keep kissing her in the garden. And that's it. Finish.

Cullen?
Nah, males don't turn me on. So, I'm basically lost here. I am a male who like to have female heroes, and because of my choice of protagonistand therefore I can not have access to the good romance?

Yes, yes, I know. It's probably a mother-thing and so on....
But apart from that I think it would be easy enough to change a few bits and bytes to let everyone have it the way they like it?
