I think guys like the OP are just not used to being disappointed. For so long the industry has catered to them, so now when they are unhappy, they go into a rage.

The rest of us are used to dealing with what we have, making lemonade out of lemons, really.

I don't find either of my character's love interests attractive. I won't call them "ugly" because there are people who do find them VERY attractive, and I feel that would be insulting towards those folks. In any case, I don't even think they are ugly; they are just not "for me."

However, I am playing the game and romancing one of them, and trying to get the best I can out of it, and for the most part, enjoying it. The writing is great, the voice acting is pretty good, and on the whole, I'm satisfied.

Would I enjoy the game more if I had drop dead gorgeous love interests falling at my feet, sure. But I'm so used to that not happening that this is just another day in gaming world for me ^^

Can we drop the "straight men don't know what to do when 11/10 women are tripping over each other to bang" schtick?  It simply isn't true.  The idea that we can';t handle not being the center of attention is insulting

Because hair color is so much more important than personality.

I don't think he said that.

::double checks::

He didn't say that.

What's so wrong with having a preference?

Then why do you keep complaining? Lesbians, homosexuals, straight women, and all other shades of gray in between do not complain nearly as much about the romances as the lot of you.

What I don't get is why straight males who 1. are disappointed with Cass and Josie and 2. want to look at a woman they find sexy don't just make a female inquisitor that is exactly their style and then just romance Blackwall.

If you romance Blackwall, you get to see your female inquisitor like this (NSFW):

Spoiler

Plus you get to look at her/be by her side for 100+ hours of gameplay. This is the perfect solution, in my opinion. It's probably the best romance option too since you can hang on her every word and watch her 100% in action.

My friend did this with her male elf inquisitor because she wasn't crazy about the straight options for a female inquisitor. Her male elf (romacing Cass) ended up being her favorite. Oh and she certainly didn't leap onto the forums and create thread upon thread, prefacing her complaints with, "Look I'm a straight female and I make up X amount of your paying customers and I'm entitled to blah blah blah blah..."

If hot women are your priority in this game, then at least try this approach. Sheesh.

Food for thought, because honestly the forums are sick of your whining. It's a dead horse. It died a long time ago. Drop the entitlement. This fandom is already full of people who think they are entitled to a plethora of other things. Let's not throw the entitlement of "hot women" into the mix. Because you will not win; acting entitled to hotter females makes you sound like an ass to the rest of us.

Um...Hmm. Not every straight male, not even all of the ones complaining, are strictly looking for fan service, for fan service's sake.

Some people prefer to play a self-insert...or at least to identify with the PC. They want to live the PC's life for the duration of the game. This would also mean they want a romance that they can identify with, which a Blackwall/Femquisitor romance wouldn't provide. We shouldn't assume they only want erotica.

Cassandra and Josephine are their only options, then. Or they can go solo. Romance makes up a small portion of the gameplay and it is optional. If having a hotter woman is their top priority, then they need to let go of the self insert. Either way, it requires compromise. I have a hard time feeling any sympathy for people who insist on having it all. That's just way too "Veruca Salt" for me.

Right. Get off your high horse.

Why should I seek to be disappointed by my favourite games? And since when did I state i was in a rage? I said from the offset it was a silly point, a minor one.

I'm in no way annoyed at Bioware, dismayed by the game, or in a rage. I simply explained i was disappointed by the lack of perceived choice available to my character. If I'd known this thread would encourage so much hate, when I never sought to offer any, I wouldn't have asked.

It's a dead horse. Not a high horse. And you're the one straddling it like nobody's business.

So many threads have popped up about this, which is depressing. It goes to show that there's a specific group of vocal men who are in serious need of getting over themselves and their entitlement to everything. This is the first game - that I can think of - that has pandered above and beyond the "average straight male gamer." It panders to straight women. It panders to homosexuals. It panders to transgendered people. It panders to writers who just want to write a story without worrying about "pleasing the masses" as so many self proclaimed straight men loudly remind us that they are the status quo - that they are the ones writing the checks and absolutely no one else's money matters because they fiercely believe that their pocketbooks speak the loudest, above everyone else's. Forgetting, of course, that there is a vast majority of straight men who enjoy the romances in this game and likely outnumber the bulk of you who think Cassandra is "scarred and ugly" or that Josephine's lack of a sex scene is a slap in your (blue) balls.

These threads don't speak for the majority. And they are so incredibly self-involved, self-centered, self-important. "I'm a straight man. Everyone listen to me now. I have the money. My money is worth more than a gay man's money. Why? Because I have more carbon copies of myself friends who play this game than the gay man does. So listen up and fix this. Give us women who aren't the women that you gave us to begin with because the women you gave us to begin with are not good enough."

I mean god, just listen to yourselves.

No there aren't more of you.

Let's combine:

1. all the straight men who enjoy Josephine and Cassandra

2. all the gay male players

3. all the straight female players

4. all the lesbian players

5. all the players who do not prefer to romance anyone

6. all the bisexual players

7. all the players who do not care about this issue

8. all the players who do not roleplay according to their real life gender/sexual preference (who enjoy Josephine and Cassandra)

They outnumber you. You don't even need this full list of people to outnumber you. The full list would be overkill.

You are not the majority.

This statistical analysis with a ton of actual data aside, none of which related to what I said, the fact is straight male players outnumber every other type of player. You're going to see them complain more because there are more of them. Deal with it.

Why is lumping all straight men into the group of "entitled whiners who can't accept the options they have been given" in any way remotely acceptable?

You're also assuming all straight males are sexually repressed and only want the same type of barbie-doll. There are many who are happy and indeed prefer to have interesting variation. And are not uncomfortable romancing male NPCs or playing as female. So no, the bigoted, narrow minded type of straight male players who are only comfortable playing a butch dudes and getting damsel-in-distress type LIs iare not in the majority.

I don't even care about this topic nor can I be arsed to argue the subject but I believe you are blatantly wrong re men being the majority of gamers. Last I saw numbers/stats for gamers that compared genders women were near 50% mark. If you take that into account and subtract all gay men from "all male" gamers you are no longer the majority.

So much this. Threads like these do a disservice to the straight men who in no way, shape, or form want to be lumped in with this kind of demanding, narrow minded self-entitlement. There are a lot of them out there and they aren't the ones posting threads because they aren't the ones with complaints about the women in the games. They also do not repeatedly insist they've been screwed over, nor do they snottily wave their checkbooks in the air as if the things carry more value than everyone else's. A lot of people have purchased this game - people who game in a variety of ways. People of all different genders, ethnicities, and more. It's time to crush this tiny population of self entitled, self-described "straight men" who act like they are the experts on "What Straight Dudes Want." It's insulting that they sit on their thrones of counterfeit expertise and spit this bullsh*t down at the rest of us like it's the golden truth.

Someone on this forum, this thread maybe? Actually posted a link to something about that. What I'm curious to know though is what games factor in to calling someone a gamer? Because I'm pretty sure a lot of stats would include players of casual social games, and I'm not sure people like my nearly 80 year old aunt Mellie who sits around playing Farmville, and Bejeweled all day, would consider themselves gamers.

The data that people link to about the 50% female players is not 'gamers'.  It's "people who play games".  Lets be honest, "gamers" are a self-identified sub-culture.  It's the difference between "people who eat in restaurants" and "foodies".  As far as I know, there is no data around "gamers".

That being said, I don't see why "gamers" are more important than "people who play games".  If someone is a casual game player and doesn't identify as a gamer, why should their opinion be any less important than a "gamer's"?

I believe it is the very equal equivalent of a woman starting a thread looking for other women to game with in Mass Effect multiplayer and the thread getting derailed by men saying women need to quit pointing out the fact that they are women because doing that is "wrong" and portrays the OP as someone who thinks she's a special snowflake for being a female gamer. The wonderful world of gaming forums and gender discussions, oh yes.

The number of women who own consoles is similar. The number of returning customers is not. Not even remotely close. That really doesn't have anything to do with this topic however. The last major BioWare game, ME3, had about 86% male Shepards. Now you can pull whatever statistic you want to pretend most of those weren't straight men, but the game industry hasn't radically changed. Personally, I don't think we should be catered to, but that's that, really.

Aunt Mellie might not consider herself a gamer nor even think about it but the gaming industry is a business and casual social games are the biggest boon to gaming money wise. I'm thinking it doesn't matter whether you self identify as a gamer. You either game or you do not. What you are really trying to ask perhaps is what the statistics bear out for core gamers and you're assuming only core gamers matter, I think.
