I play as the perfect version of myself in every RPG I play, Therefore I'm always a straight male character. It's meant to be fun and personally I couldn't enjoy the game as anything else.

I understand that there is people that do only self-inserts but I still don't get the generalisation that straight male gamers only have 2 options. Or does majority straight male gamers just play self-insert? As straight female gamer I at least have 7 LI's, number in the game depends on character of cource. If you want to limit yourself, I think it's up to you.

It's primarily an issue of demographics - reading more into it than that says something about you, not people of a different gender/sexuality than yours.

The vast majority of people of all genders and sexuality play the game for the story and characters, not because of the desire for romance options.

You'll have to excuse me for jumping the gun, but another thread with the same "I'm not happy with my choices, Cassandra's too manly, Josephine's not a companion, why only two?" almost always reads as "this isn't personalised for my taste in women" now.

I'd take another swig of beer, but I just paid the bills...

And I agree. I realise people have "tastes" but this is not that kind of game.

I think most people are annoyed that their straight male characters have two options, I figured most people made lots of different characters.

This pretty much. I always do more then one playthrough and a lot of times my second is a woman, people are just disappointed in the options for what's probably their "canon" character.

There hasn't been more options in previous DA games for straight male Inquisitors either though. And majority of Inquisitors have same amount of options.

True but let's not forget that one group has gotten far more than every other, Not just straight men. Which is why I think people are upset. Personally I enjoyed the romances.

Cassandra and Josephine are the best LIs in the game, IMO. I hate that straight Dwarf and Qunari get only Iron Bull(meh) or Blackwall(OK, not great). Cullen is at least enjoyable in a fanfiction-y way, and Solas is excellent(if limited). Still, Straight female elves pretty much get their pick of the litter. And I'm not fond of playing elves. Dwarves, ftw.

Morrigan is still my favorite out of the three games, Leliana is second. Romance is a nice "bonus" but it's nothing really huge to complain about. Like someone said earlier, it's only going to take 5 minutes out of the entire 100+ hour gameplay of the actual game. Romance isn't what Bioware focuses on and they shouldn't. Like I said yes it's a nice bonus when Romance is worked on and you can get to know your favorite characters better but it shouldn't be a focus for future games.

I romanced Cullen who is not a party member either and I thought his romance was excellent. You’re not missing anything if you go for an advisor.

I felt the whole romance with Morrigan in Origins was integral to the story though. Or at least mine.

My character had a baby with her, saved him from death, left to find her at the end and was involved in exclusive dlc with her, where he left through a portal with her - and has thereafter not been found. I know you know the story, but I'm setting out why that romance seemed so important to my characters story.

That'll be hard to top with Cassandra.

P.s. I don't know what happens with Morrigan or my warden yet, so no spoilers please!! :-D

To be fair it will be hard to top with any character that Bioware creates in next installments.
It will also be hard to top romancing Alistair as HN and becoming his queen, so OP youre not the only one. Sure you l can argue that Morrigan has a more important arc, but thats not the point. I doubt any other game will let us become a queen of a whole nation.
DAO was more of setting a stage for the next games, so some of the decisions regarding LIs there were grand and probably will never be beaten in the future.
If you want a Morrigan-like story, youre probably out of luck, same with female players that want Alistair-like story.

If you just want a sexy female character, it is doable. But think what made Morrigan so attractive, her personality or her story arc? And her personality is largely tied into her arc.

I usually tend to stick with one character to romance and in this game it will be two - Cullen and IB. And thats it, grand two options where one of them is an advisor. No big deal, i love Cullen anyway.

If I were to judge the LI's purely on the first few lines they say and on their appearance.... oh, my.

I dislike beards of any kind, which eliminates pretty much all male LI's, except Solas...who has no hair whatsoever !

That leaves me with the female LI's (at least they don't have beards...yet ! I fear any upcoming patches !) Sera is batshit crazy. Cassandra is shoving me around and accuses me of massmurder and Josephine tries to make sure that I don't embarrass her new project !

:D

Morrigan is kind if overrated, tbh. Honestly didn't care for how it turned out in the long run until DA:I wrapped that end up. And sure, it was funny and touching to watch her grow from obvious bang to love, but her character outside of that was completely awful. Romance shouldn't be the most important part of a character.

My god, another one of these threads? Rent a romance option, do you not get loving in real life?

My God, another one of these people commenting about this being 'another one of those posts'.

Just don't post or read it if you're not interested. Simple.

Morrigan's cool, the girl who plays the part of the b*tch but deep down inside wants nothing more than to beloved and accepted. And you get it out of her if you befriend her too, remember the scene with Fem!Warden after killing Flemeth? But yeah Leliana is a much more interesting character.

Plenty of people find Cassandra and Josephine interesting and appealing. There's nothing wrong with the choices they gave you and they don't need a third choice because pretty much everyone gets 2 options (except straight women)

I can sort of see what you mean, OP. I'm firmly an Alistair lover, and I thought nothing, nothing, could top his romance in a DA game. Ever. Then I gave Cullen a try, and boy! *whistle* I now love me some Cullen.

But my point is, you give Cass or Josephine a try then you'll see that it'll be worthwhile. They may not be the typical romance options you'd like but it'll pay off. It goes deeper than their looks or first impressions. They're no Morrigan, but they're certainly something else on the same level.

I've not done it (and likely never will), but I've genuinely not heard a single negative thing about Cassandra's romance (outside of the bug, that is).  From what I hear, it's a very well written and enjoyable romance and many people consider it the best in the game.  (Along with Solas, it seems.....)

I felt like I spent more time with the advisers, especially Cullen, than with anybody else. So romancing him was indeed worth it.

Except that's not who Morrigan is. Morrigan's just a total b*tch who deep down wants to find someone she finds even remotely worth her time talking to. And sure, A female Warden can befriend her, but even then, not a single bit of major development happens outside of her raising Kieran. And nah, Leliana is not more interesting than

Let's not play.

Same here... Do they have more animated conversations than our companions? It sure feels that way. I feel Cullen has more romance-related stuff.

One day people on this forum will stop caring about romances.

Or maybe BioWare should just go into dating sims

Why should people stop caring about romances? It brings a little extra something to the story imo. It's not as if you have to indulge in them either, it's optional.

So maybe you should ignore that part of the game, instead of worrying about the romances you clearly aren't interested in.
