Devs have said that DA:O wasn't all that profitable, although with DLC it did well enough.
I will say that my household has three copies, two of which were purchased at full price.

I think the point is that Steam's userbase is much larger than Origin's. Most likely.
I have yet to understand what's so horrible about installing Origin (or Steam) and buying the exclusive games on it.
I have both Steam and Origin and I jump back and forth depending on what I want to play.
Are some gamers running turnips for computers that can't handle the extra 20MB or something?
They can be so fussy sometimes ![]()
Are PC gamers actually that stupid? I can't imagine passing on a game I wanted to play because it wasn't on Steam. I didn't like the concept of Steam much in the first place, but if I wanted to play HL2, I had to use it. And back then being on Steam meant waiting several hours for the game to patch before you could play it.
Anyway, that chart wouldn't have reported Steam sale data, so nothing would have changed.
I know of at least 3 people who never wanted to install Origin, but use steam all the time. Two of them installed Origin for this game only.
what, da3 is the only game that's available digitally?
DA3 had EA Access which allowed X-Box users to play the game early if they bought it digitally. It's logical to assume DA: I has a higher % of digital sales than games that did not have this.
I don’t buy that this game is 'doing great'. I'm certain they said the same thing about DA2. no I'm not a hater, just a realist
Well if you're certain, then realistically you should be able to find the quote.

As far as i know, EA Access has really nothing to do with digital or not. And you don't have to buy the game before you are able to play it early. You get early access by being an EA Access member, then you can decide whether to buy it or not and it doesn't matter if it's at retail or digital.

That makes sense actually. Pardon me I've been drinking.

But you get 10% off the digital. That's why I went digital.
I didn't see the below info in this thread, so I thought I link, for this seem to be an official information on the game's sales, as far as we can get any data at all.

Hi guys - obviously it's a drag not to see DAI on that top 10 list for November. I can't really give any figures of course...However, from what I know about the sales numbers (a) DAI is doing great and well ahead of it's predecessors, and a significant percentage of sales of DAI are digital and not tracked by NPD. If anything, I'm more worried about the weird signals this chart sends to the market about DAI, as opposed to the reality of our unit sales []
Reading some of the replies in this thread, you'd think some people (desperately) want this game to fail and Bioware to go bankrupt lmao.
Everyone wants to be the one doomsayer, the prophet who foresaw the end, it gives credence to their preaching of bad business practices, catering to more people, and of course, terrible terrible game play, story, pricing, fame, ect ect ect.

i infact bought the game three times, one on ps3, then a used copy for a friend who had a xbox 360 but no real cash, and again for the ultimate edition through steam.

They missed the outstanding / innovativ part with DAI like Skyrim was when it was released.
Lazy console game port to PC.(made lots of hardcore PC fans angry) Short main story. Many "grindy" collecting quests. Very few small Towns. I mean Val Royeaux is that even a town? Doesnt even feel like a village.
I think DAI is a good game, but it will not sell much better then DA2. They missed a few opportunities to really stand out.
Just my opinion.

Thats because Master Race believes in eradicating monopoly.

They do have a reason to be upset for not getting an isometric 90s looking game

Hmm...yep, time to break this back out:

Image server is apparently down. It just says "Can't tell if serious, or sarcastic."

The felating for steam bothers me. I was a gamer back in the day when Valve forced it down our throats with CS 1.6 (I think that was the first delivery vehicle). It was just like origin right now. Intrusive, unnecessary, etc.
ME board regulars may remember Terror_K and Gatt9, who were convinced that the total horror of ME2 -- yes, 2 -- meant that Bio was doomed, DOOMED, and the whole gaming industry was about to follow them into oblivion.
I preferred Gatt9 to Terror_K. Those were fun days. Wasn't there someone else who went on about how ME2 was a betrayal because it wasn't a homage to 80s sci-fi?

I fully endorse this sarcasm.

Steam when it first came out was much worse than Origin. Much worse. I remember it being a virus it was so bad. That's basically what it amounted to. I remember the great BSODs when it first came out. Oh how people forget so quickly how bad Steam use to be. Amazing how quickly they turned their rep around.
As for the topic on how well this game sold, I looked at the NPD on GAF other day and it's not selling well. Only sold like 600k according to NPD in America. Didn't crack top 10. It's winning a lot of GOTY awards so hopefully that can push people to the game. Not sure how happy EA is with those numbers but the game didn't seem to have much marketing which probably drove the budget way down. Who knows? Maybe it already hit even. 100 million budgets on marketing needs to die anyway. I suspect this game had a high development budget though based on the AAA quality. I hope this game stays consistent selling. We don't get many AAA budget RPGs. They're extremely rare.
I don't want Bioware to die as a result of this game, but I hope the poor sales serve as a wake up call.
Semi-interesting characters and pretty scenery do not a good game make.

NPD numbers don't account for any digital sales, nor do they count any sales outside the US. The American market accounts, on average, for only 35% of the video game market worldwide.
Furthermore, even if that 600k number was accurate (and it's not), it was reflective of just twelve days on market in November. Even if we use their inaccurate and misleading figure, it's still well ahead of the worldwide totals for both Origins and DA2 by a significant amount after roughly three weeks on shelves. Bioware has even had someone post in another thread saying that DAI is tracking very well in sales. All indications from BioWare and people with actual sources besides NPD seems to indicate the game is either selling at or above expectations.
I don't know the budget they had, but I'm guessing that if they move at least 1.5 million (which, worldwide, they probably already have) they break even, anything 2 million or better is icing on the cake.
RPG and sports games have built in advantages that heavily co-op games like Cod and Destiny don't in that they have higher staying power and better sales over time than action and shooters do.
The 90 day worldwide total is the number that will matter.
All the evidence so far shows they're selling far better than either of their predecessors did during the same time period. We then had that confirmed by Jarrett (even though he wouldn't give numbers). While it will never reach close to Skyrim figures, Inquisition will most likely top Origins.
