Even by BSN standards this is a bit hysterical.
Still a quiet breeze compared to ATRL when discussing who the Queen of Pop is.
I don't think bugs are an issue. The bugs in DAI are not major for the most part and in comparison Skyrim was broke at release on consoles. Some people had to start new save games simply because they had a major bug where the fps would drop to like under 10 due to a memory bug. That wasn't fixed until months later. That same bug plagued Fallout 3 but wasn't as well known. If people put that much care into bugs then Bethesda games wouldn't sell.
It's Amazon's Cyber Monday deal right now which should boost sales. Whether it actually helps the game's bottom line is different, but big sales numbers can at least influence public perception (see: how often DA2's sales numbers are used against it).

Well, I don't really see a cyber monday sale on all platforms really a positive. To me it says the game is overstocked on Amazon and they're not selling so they want to clear some stock with a discount. That's what it's telling me because I don't see any FC4 or GTAV deals that released on the same day.
I just want a sequel. This game is too good not to. I don't want to see Bioware layoffs or them suffer for all their hard work. They deserve proper compensation for their hard work. I hope EA is happy with the game.
It has sold ~1M copies in its first week; under normal circumstances that would be respectable, but Skyrim sold ~10M in it's first week and has sold ~25M to date...so ~1M sold for a game with the advertising push that Inquisition had isn't really that impressive (I'd go so far as to say it's a disappointment).
Also consider, ~6M people have bought Origins over the last four years. That means there are ~5M people who played Origins and passed on buying Inquisition during its first week -- either they hated Origins and swore off anymore Dragon Age games...or Inquisition went in a direction that turned them off; someone who is smarter than me will have to figure that one out.

One thing to remember is that The Elder Scrolls is a much larger brand name than Dragon Age is. Bethesda has been building it up for 2 decades now, and just because it doesn't get close to the current king doesn't mean it was a disappointment.
Other than that, Steam sales would have accounted for a lot of Origins' sales. People aren't too hesitant to buy a game when it's 90% off like it has been so many times on Steam. The $60 price tag that it comes with brand new game however, is gonna get people waiting till it drops down in price unless they really love the series.
Dragon Age 2 also hurt the reputation of the series. Between that and the ending to Mass Effect 3, some people have sworn off BioWare games either forever or until they're heavily discounted.

Yep. Elder Scrolls is a bigger name with a bigger rep. And you touch on a few other things here: People have this angst about EA (quite rightly actually) and that extends to Origin. I heard a lot of "don't care how good it is I won't buy anything on Origin!" before this game launched. There's also bigotry some feel towards LGBT inclusion in games.
But I think this game has done alright with reviewers both in print and on youtube and other gaming forums seem more positive as well. I think what will help this game is word of mouth getting out that it is good and that's already happening.
However I think, more than modding, getting this game on Steam at some point would really help EA in sales down the road.

This. Skyrim will always be an anomaly. A beloved franchise that goes back a looooong time, delivering its first new entry in the franchise in what, 5 years? The sales for that game were abnormal.
But here's the thing...Dragon Age Inquisition has one big ace in the hole. It's a virtual lock for most of the GOTY awards that will start springing up in the new year. I can't think of anything that has a shot at challenging. Destiny's endgame flamed out badly, making people see it for the hunk of garbage that it is. GTA 5 wouldn't qualify because it was released last year. What's left? MCC? Shadow of Mordor? AC Unity? Peggle 2?
More than one person, both critics and users alike, have made a comment that DAI is better than Skyrim. I think there's a solid argument for that point. When GOTY awards start getting handed out, and people haven't played the title, it does get their attention. I think the long game outlook is excellent for DA:I. It will also get a burst of sales at Christmas.
Where are these deals?
I dunno about that. Your plan means we end up with a lot fewer Bio games than we'd otherwise have. I'm not sure that's a great tradeoff.
So you're ok with crap as long as you get a lot of it?

Happy owners of previous games buy the sequels in the first week do they? You live in a very different world than I do.
Dragon Age Inquisition sold 1.14 million copies (which may not include digital sales) in the first week, which is more than Origins and DA2 combined and that's pretty damn good. Not fantastic, Bioware have to work on their gameplay implementation before that happens, but it's more than adequate. Inquisition will probably top Origins overall sales imo.
Sales are nothing to write home about, at least in the UK. It debuted in 5th place and in its 2nd week it's not even in the top 10 anymore.

We can only speculate until EA actually releases some factual info about the sales.
I do hope it sells well and we get more games in this franchise, as it is my favorite. And now they have a very good engine to build the games ![]()

I'd say Shadow of Mordor has a good chance. Maybe Dark Souls 2. Otherwise yeah, not much competition, at least in it's genre.
By all accounts, I think Inquisition is doing well. Not great, not poorly, just well.
Divinity should also be up there for rpg of the year.
They are both great games.
Hi!
Divinity Original SIn, should be the RPG of year. Fantastic tactical RPG.

ME3 still hit 6 mill.
Which is really good.
Yeah, but how much customer goodwill did it destroy in the process? There are tons of people who said "Never again" after ME3.
*Snip*
Sad to say, I am one of those people. ME3 is a good game, a very good game, but the way it ended...
Yeah, I know it's in the past, a long time ago, but still. And now, I shall not derail this thread any further ![]()
Yeah, but how much customer goodwill did it destroy in the process? There are tons of people who said "Never again" after ME3. DA2 and ME3 did tremendous damage to the Bioware brand and that has surely dented DAI's sales.

Mod support that skyrim has were responsible for a lot of sales.
Due to licensing issues inquisition won't have that going for it.
hopefully once some of the technical issues are resolved the PC community will give inquisition another chance.
Not as much as you think. I need to look it up, but over half of the people who bought Skyrim chose the 360 version. 99% sure about it.
Yeah it did amazing on the 360. III and IV were the only decent games on the xbox and 360 respectively for awhile after they came out so Elder Scrolls has a huge fan-base on those that platform.
It's not just mod support for Skyrim, it's the fact it's also available on Steam so when it comes to PC downloads at least, Bioware simply don't have their game selling on by far the largest digital download service there is. Skyrim must have racked up millions of sales digitally through Steam alone, even excluding people who bought retail.
If you want to look at numbers then this mod alone has over 6 million unique downloads.
