I try not to attack people personally, but you're ignorant. Without capitalism there would be no creativity because there would be no profit incentive. I am not going to sit here and say that capitalism is always perfect all the time, but to say it stifles creativity? That is just incorrect. What is your favorite game of all time? It wouldn't even exist without a free market.
Ah, so only profit should be the incentive for creativity. Got it.
How about contributing something worthwhile to society? If the only creativity we need is to come up with better ways to screw people over, then have fun with it. This concept is very popular these days.
There is a difference between making a profit to support yourself and making as much profit as possible. Nothing wrong with free market in theory. People want something, you provide it, and get paid for it. That's great. I love crowd funding. It's where all those game developers flock to who can't get funded by big publishers because their games wouldn't be profitable enough. If all games had to sell like Skyrim, we'd hardly have any games on the market anymore. And much less diversity.
Of course I'm not putting the full blame on the big bad companies. It's the consumers themselves who put up with it. The Assassin's Creed games wouldn't be profitable anymore if nobody bought them. So it's gamers themselves who ruin the market in a way. Don't buy this crap anymore, then maybe companies will have to get creative (yes) again.
But imo there is no denying that the quality of a product suffers when you get greedy. Maybe you'll be more agreeable with that assessment?
It often does kill creativity in the process, however. AC is the most shameless cash cow in recent history. No need to come up with new ideas when sales are fine. Delivering a good product is not the incentive here. And that's a shame. These do not challenge your ideas or morals, or your intellect, they are mindless entertainment.
TV shows get milked way past their prime. Stretching out shows even though you have run out of ideas is sad. And writers are told to write whatever appeals to the biggest number of people. That's usually gory violence and casual sex. We totally need more of that...
So it's a terrible combination of greedy company bosses and stupid consumers who don't mind being sold crappy products. And the more stupid **** we dull our brains with, the easier it is to sell this crap to us. Yeah, capitalism rocks.
Btw, I'm not saying that Bioware is all that different. But I'd still put their games way above other franchise cash cows. Any game can be fun, that's not the point. But Bioware games still make me think, they have a message. Of course, I'll pay them money for it. I also pay for music. Or pure art. Everybody wants to make a living, the question is how.
I really don't want to start an idealogical debate. Let's just say I don't support the idea of maximum profit at the lowest cost. They tried that with DA2. Nor do I support all games to be clones of each other.
