Hurr durr see I can do it too. No it is not subjective as I based my opinions with numbers, unlike you. Obviously there is something more "interesting" about these characters if they sell better than their female counterparts.  "Any intelligent person"..Well I guess that's obviously not you.

By this 'logic', Mass Effect is an uninteresting game. The vast majority of humanity doesn't care one bit about Mass Effect. Most humans, even those with a computer in developed countries, haven't played Mass Effect and are not interested enough in the game to do so. What is 'interesting' or not, has nothing to do with numbers. It is an opinion and inherently subjective, plain and simple. I (and most others here if they are bothering to visit a board dedicated to discussing it) find Mass Effect very interesting and the fact that most other humans don't find it interesting, in no way invalidates that opinion.

I played Bulletstorm prior to attempting a Femshep run-through. I absolutely love Hale's performance as Trishka. Was really disappointed with her Shepard.

FemShep. Usually I go for males in RPGs. Sometimes it's for aesthetic reasons if the game for example has retarded female armor/animation but mostly because I roleplay males better. I guess I sneakily project more of myself to female characters which at times causes their characterization to be all over the place and/or too similar with each other. The player made characters I have grown most attached to have almost always been males.

In ME, however, FemShep was immediately my first choice. I was tired of your typical "space marines" and m!Shep seemed to fit that archetype so damn perfectly. FemShep just felt "right" for me from the get-go whereas the male version presented itself as too mainstream for my tastes.

Won't argue about which romance is the best when it comes to storyline or characterization but I really like the variety femShep offers. She can romance males and females, humans and aliens, whereas male Shepard was restricted to straight options until ME3. I also really like how femShepard can romance some actual alien looking aliens. I'm a sucker for the "forbidden/unconventional romances" anyhow since I find them most interesting. (Heck, I'd have romanced Legion if given the chance.) MaleShep had the options who physically just looked like your regular sexy human ladies... only with blue skin and tentacle hair. (Yeah, and Tali who I was hoping to have more distinctive design under that mask... or never to be revealed so I could headcanon).

Other than that I also prefer the voice acting of FemShep though I'm not saying Meer is bad. I'm actually really enjoying my current Douche Shepard run. He sometimes sounds like such a dork... and I mean that in the best way possible :D. I think he's growing on me. Meaning both the voice acting and my character.

My Shepard is male. I once tried to play female Shepard, but didn't like it. The character creator in ME 1-2 is just so bad and it's impossible to actually make a good looking female. Also I simply do not like Jennifer Hales voice (for my character I mean). It's too deep and masculine. I like more feminine female heroes.

I feel the total opposite about the character creator. Making a male Shepard that doesn't look like a member of preverbal man is a feat to me.

I disagree

Spoiler

I still have the slider settings if you want them.

All custom male Sheps somehow end up having the same face, just different hair & eye color.

voteDC, thank you for the offer, but no need. Your Shepard still probably looks better than anything I could do.  :)

It's kind of funny though how all the FemSheps look kind of similar. I definitely hope that MEA team takes a close look at DAI's character creator. I like how all the Inquisitors are completely unique.

I always played bro-shep. It isn't that I don't like femshep, but I find it difficult to identify with her and it messes with my immersion.

I really have to disagree on your statement that its impossible to create a good looking woman in ME1 and ME2. As a rule, I always like playing gorgeous avatars.

Having a resting b1tch face that was pleasant to look at for several hundred hours is particularly important to me.

On the other hand, I think BroShep customization is probably the worst at making someone who actually look human or at least someone with a soul and intelligence. Playing default Shep is even worst, he's just a supermodel cosplaying as a soldier. I can't look at his blue steel pout and take him seriously. I grew up with his face at the back of my fashion magazines!

I've created quite a few femsheps who all look different and who look human.
And they've all been done in the me1 editor.

I always play as a female since I am one. I'm not interested in playing as a male, even though male Shep's romances have a greater variety available. I only like human males as LI's so having only Kaidan as a viable option is a bummer. Don't get me wrong, I do like him but it would've been nice to change it up once in a while.
As for VA performance, I greatly prefer Hale over Meer. I like it that she puts more emotion in to her acting as opposed to the boring drone of Meer. Regardless of him having improved over the course of the three games. And I disagree with people stating Hale's performance worsened. I rather think that some of that stems more from the fact they went completely overboard with their auto-dialogue. Resulting in her saying things we feel might not entirely fit our Shepards.
I do agree with some people saying certain scenes look odd when playing as a female. Like sparring with James or the way she sits sometimes with her legs wide open like some dock worker. But then, it's a game with space magic and monster machines. So realism isn't all that high up my priority list.

Always femshep. I didn't even touch broshep for the first two games. One of the reasons is that I don't want to be staring at the back of a man for the entire game. I'd rather be staring at the back of a female character. Second, femshep's voice acting is so much better. Maleshep is very dull and monotonous, his tone of voice never changes or reacts to the conversation. I love certain lines delivered by femshep, eg "I don't have time for this idiot. Charge" and also "I'll relinquish one bullet; where do you want it?". You just can't beat femshep, she's entirely badass.

I mostly play femShep, because I am female, but I really like both male and female Shepard. Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale bring something unique to Shepard, and I appreciate that. I could really play either one at any time, but yeah, I mostly choose female because of the gender thing.
