Well, I'm not too mad about that. I kinda understand why you did it. It was the only way we could forgive the Humans, so they wouldn't fry like battered fish lol.

@Kareen

While I certainly don't agree with Mike's sentiment towards Anderson and would find the notion of being able to punch him in the stomach over a friendly comment to be overly-sensitive (especially if its only for Femshep) I wouldn't call Anderson a 'best friend'*. Infact, outside of the fan circles (for whatever reason) Anderson didn't play that big of a part in Shepard's life. It wasn't until ME3 did they start pushing this Shepard-Anderson bonding session on us. As for being your superior, well, it depends. Within the Alliance perhaps but Shepard is a spectre - the council are the only ones he really has to answer to. Which makes his surrender in ME3 all the more baffling.

I always viewed what they had to be more akin to mutual respect - ME3 took that a step further like every fanfiction out there and tried to make him almost this father figure for Shepard. I don't mind it much since I thought they did a good job of making me care about the guy but I can understand why some would be annoyed by this forced connection. Hey, did you know he was born in London?

I also think you should be careful with your accusations. That's twice now you've called out a veteran for not understanding the military. You're also bordering the lines of an ad hominem argument. Just because you disagree with someone's opinion doesn't mean you have to insult their maturity.

*Amusingly I'd argue that the best friend you had in the entire series was Thane. He's the only one who kept trying to contact you and was seemingly worried about your situation. All your other good friends barely seem to be aware that you're under house arrest. "Hey Shepard. Didn't you get locked up or something?"

R.I.P. Thane

first and foremost, i do apologize to @ThemikeFest for what it seems to be a insult against a Veteran, believe it or not i have the most respect for those who fight against any threat against any democracy i really do, that's why i have argued this way and if i've checked his profile, i've been more reserved.

this said, i agree with you and if i can explain myself

Anderson is the guy always around, he gave you his own vessel, you can feel he wants you to be a spectre because he failed, he'll help you to go to Illos, he is your best friend this way, he will do anything he can to help you

about being your superior, well even a spectre will follow the hiérarchy, right?, remember your 1st meeting in the Normandy's com room, you call him ''Sir'' and Anderson ask you to not call him this way

But definitly you are right about the mutual respect.

going against the story whatever it takes is not the good way to have attention either, i've seen many post from Mike now, it's almost always provocation or kind of,  i'm probably wrong, i don't want to make him change or have another opinion, we are not in real life, you can't change Anderson or you must write another scénario.

For me the purpose of this story is to save the galaxy with all your squadmates on the deck, this way i can accept my Shepard death, one to save billion, but if you can't save one of your partner, you've failed.

you are right again for >Thane, i've liked him from the 1st mercenary he killed ''what a entrance'' to his last word and he is the closest to a true friend

Title says it all...

While I was in the "The Little Things you just discovered Thread" I posted something and I thought it would have a great discussion, since there are people who likes/Dislikes Jennifer Hale/Mark Meer Voice Acting.

I wanted to ask, why? And who is your favorite. Of course, not just the part of the Voice Acting, but Romance, Gameplay overall. And what Background combines more with a specific Gender(If there's any).

I'm NOT trying to start a thread that says that you should pick BroShep because he is male, or FemShep because you're a Female Gamer, only what I want to know is WHY you picked the Option of playing as a FemShep or a MaleShep and your opinion.

So, let me get my opinion here:

1- The Romance was great. FemShep has the possibility in Romancing Garrus... A loved Character by many fans. He also has some Great Lines of Dialogue with his romance.

The Portrayal of the Character was great, in both sides.

The Romance in MaleShep was good, but IMO, not comparable with Romancing Garrus :3

Also, the Voice Acting... People say that Jennifer Hale's Voice Acting is better than Mark Meer's. I Really didn't think so. Doing a ME3 run here, and I think that her voice acting did got a bit of worse. Mark Meer, in the other hand, improved a LOT in the Voice Acting.

Now, I don't know if it's because I did numerous playthroughs with a BroShep that I'm already used to his voice, his entonment, his emotion, but playing as a FemShep isn't actually what I expected, by seeing the overall opinon in the forums.

I play both, but 4 out of 5 time I go with Fem Shep, and my canon Shep is female. As to reasons why:

1) The voice. I love Jennifer Hale's work in everything, most especially the ME trilogy.

2) Romance. My canon LI is Kaiden. I think he's an excellent, well-written character and my preferred LI for Fem Shep by a mile. On the flip side, my preferred love interest(s) for Male Shep is Ashley and Miranda and both of those were a little disappointing in the third game. But they're still the only reason I play Male Shep when I do.

3) I love a butt-kicking female action hero, be it in games, movies, books or what have you.

Same for me, except my canon romance is Traynor. Helps that she is into "bad-girls". Renegade femShep all the way. I played through trilogy 5 times already and only once I played as broShep. Doing another trilogy run right now and again back to Renegon femShep.

I already looked the thread up after you responded in one of my own threads back in ME2 sub-forum. The thread is great! Also I noticed you post a lot of cool pictures of Traynor there. I spent at least 30 minutes looking at them and I plan to do more. Thanks! :D

You're both wrong. Shepard was always planned to be both genders. The same guy who is quoted talking about the model mentions it in a follow-up question.

Shepard is not male or female, Shepard is just a stand-in for whatever gender you, the player, decide to roll. Neither is canon and neither is 'right' or 'wrong'.

Maybe we should ask God to make a judgement.

Nah! Probably not a good idea, since he did 'drop the ball' on the whole religion thing.

That's my point. I was more or less being sardonic.

For me I tend to think of Shepard as female.

Mark Meer is great as Shepard and definitely brings a more even performance to the lines. Yet at times I find myself willing him to have more emotion in a scene.

Jennifer Hale may have some odd moments which have you scratching your head but the emotion is there when I want it and has you thinking "yeah, these events are having an affect."

Personal canon romances would be Liara for female Shepard, I just love the character and voice (though Traynor comes very close on the voice.) Male Shepard goes for Jack, that girl's wild nature lets Shepard experience things he has to keep bottled in.

I don't quite remember when, but I know there is a scene where she laughs at a joke or something (maybe Garrus bonding moment in ME3 ?). I will never forget that laugh. It is so stupid and badly done that somehow it just works for me :D.

Shame I can't recall the exact moment, but you can't miss it. Its so unique it just stands out the most.

Maybe you meant this laugh? It's about 45secs into the vid.

There is no "original canon Shep" hence why it's a choice. I don't mind people liking Femshep as long as they don't try to proclaim her as canon.

Anyways, I see many like Hale's voice but I never cared for it. It's overdone and overrated imo. Meer's Shep sounds more calm and collected, which I find suiting for a person in his position. I prefer Hale's work in other games like how she voices Krem in Inquisition.

Omg, no. Stop. Stop saying that!
The female model was animated first and that doesnt mean anything.

Everything about femshep being canon or default comes from misunderstanding and is delusion.

1) Exactly!

2) Agreed that Hale's Shep voice is overrated. She's way too emotional and sometimes not all, it's like a roller coaster. I think that Meer's performance is better because, like you said, it fits the character and his position. I'm not saying it's perfect (*cough* STEEEVEE!!!*cough*), but I prefer it.

You know, if people said Sheploo was the "original canon Shepard", I wouldn't care.

My statement comes from the fact that Bioware's first version of Shepard was a lady, and I happen to think that's cool. It's usually a dude who takes that place, and the lady comes after. I was actually surprised by Cooper's tweet, because it only took three games before they finally made a trailer featuring the fem!protagonist.

I personally don't think there is anything wrong or worth being bothered by from people emphasizing that simple fact. Let us take our victories where we can.
