Now I really...really wanna finish this game and since alot of people told me to focus on the characters more then the story I have one question for you which class do you prefer for your Hawke's story?.

I now the answer easy right (which ever you find most fun) well there's one problem with that...I'm paying attention to characters and theirs one character or should I say two that changes depending on your class.

If your a Warrior/Rogue you get Bethany , and if your a Mage you get Carver. This shouldn't matter they won't be in your party for long well too me I think it matters alot. Their your brother and sister and they can become a Templar/Circle Mage or a Grey Warden or....die >.> which can impact your story depending how you view it.

Do you like Bethany that little sister your trying to protect from Templar's? or Carver the little brother who your looking out for , but who's also looking out for you due to being a mage.

In my first play-through my Hawke was a rogue. Beth died in the Deep Roads, I didn't like Merrill and was pretty pissed at Anders. I just didn't feel that involved in the story with my rogue character.

Too be honest , Hawke Rogue just sounds weird so I can understand that lol.

I think they all work. 

 

Hawke rogue still is fine.. I think of Rogues as generally more world wise and clever. Clever enough to hide and keep Bethany safe whenever necessary. In a way, they serve as a more plausible "protector" to me than the Warrior does. The Warrior attracts attention and is in your face. Bethany and rogue Hawke however would have gone unnoticed for a long time.

Hmm I never thought of it like that , I kinda picture Rogues as these tiny little things making me think (how can that protect anyone) while a Warrior although he does attract attention I treat them like Qunari (their big enough that you don't wanna mess with them or their friends lol)

I personally like rogue Hawke because it makes for an nice contrast with Bethany being an mage and Carver an warrior. Other then that, I actually think the story feels more personal with Hawke being an non mage, since taking care of Bethany seems to be more noble and selfless then just an mage Hawke being all like "yeah, I just need to take care of myself".

I find role playing as a mage kind of ruined by how despite magic been such a super sensitive issue in Kirkwall no one seems to notice you hurling fireballs and shooting lightning at everything, not to mention the great big magic staff you lug around (guess there's no such thing as a 'sawed-off' concealable size to be discreet, does it really have to be that long?), though its fun to think that some of the mage robes (especially for femhawkes) could easily be passed off as noble dress wear.

 

While in Act I your essentially an unimportant nobody, I wish in Act II been a hidden apostate mage forced into the limelight had been of greater significance involving discretion and having to deal with rumors and accusations about you, would have loved to have Sebastian react the first time you cast a spell and finding out your an apostate and when the duel against the Arishok occurs at the end hear a gasp of shock from the crowd of nobles as respected Lady Hawke fries the Qunari with her powers and outs herself as a mage to everyone.

 

That said I found the most believable role to be the protective older brother as a warrior, going about using diplomatic/sarcastic dialogue until someone threatens Bethany at which point you threaten to rip their arms off if they touch her.

So right now I'm leaning towards either Warrior or Rogue.

Mage is good for making the story personal, but I have a soft spot for Rogue protagonists in Dragon Age games.  Like others have said, it makes an interesting contrast to both Bethany and Carver, and perhaps makes a little more sense from an immersion POV.

 

Not to mention the rogue is pretty fun to play, once you get the specialization skills available.

same here, there is not a run in which I do not use that class and from the very beginning, even if I always go rogue in my first play, to me Hawke is born to be mage!

i like being melee and flanking/stealthing/executing. as such, most of my PCs end up DD rogue~ rogue armor sets and weapon animations always end up being my favorite too

 

story wise, i prefer bethany to carver, so that limits my options to the warrior or rogue. i like the sarcastic hawke too, and i feel like it fits the rogue best. i feel like hawke would be a crafty character after climbing out of the muck of lowtown, and the rogue fits that role the best

 

that being said...i made the hawke in my completion playthru warrior, and i'm currently regretting it. a lot ;___;

Mage is the one which i had the most fun with. Combat gets more interesting and active. The one really big downside for me is that you have to stick with Carver the person which makes choosing the mage really hard.

This is usually why I prefer Mage Hawke as well.

I like either Rogue or Mage.

 

A lot depends on whether you want Beth or Carver.  I prefer Carver so end up with mage 2/3 of the time.

 

Immersion wise rogue is easier to play. 

 

Mage can work but it's not easy

 

- If you're on a PC then the hide weapons mod is fantastic

- don't wear the obvious mage robes (find the robes that have pants)

-combat wise only use primal if you can stand hurling fireballs in the middle of town, otherwise try creation and entropy

I like Bethany, so I prefer the rogue class. My main Hawke is a male archer that generally controls the field and protects the warriors, usually Fenris, because they're together. I think the archery specialization fits 'Hawke' pretty well actually ;3

Mage. Because the combat is most fun and Carver rocks.

Mage. Did my first run as a Warrior, second as a Rogue, third as a Mage, and never looked back after that. I don't even usually like playing mage classes, but I felt it added a lot more to the story. And Carver's a ******, but so does he.

 

Besides, if you pay attention, the reason you never get in trouble for being a mage is explained. A bit flimsily so, but it's there.

The story only works for me if Hawke is a rogue/warrior who stays in Kirkwall for Bethany OR a mage who supports Meredith.  And as LD said, get the hide weapons mod.  It helps a lot.

I prefer Hawke as a rogue. I mean, you often hear the argument that Hawke is best as a mage because it invests him/her into the whole mage/templar bit, but really, I like the idea of Hawke being a troublemaking upstart out to make a mint and be someone important, who just so happens to somehow get put into the center of the whole conflict. A daring rogue who gets fame and fortune but at a heavy, heavy cost.

Mage is really thematically relevant to the game, it adds quite a few levels to it. Also romancing Fenris as a mage is fun FYI.
