I really adore DAI. But i really have no idea what the Art department was thinking as they did the Armors in this otherwise great game. Playing a Warrior here is not for the style concious.

If you look back at Origins and DA2, you see good to great Armor variations. in DAI we got exactly two plate suits and its the Templar one and the Orlesian. Dont get me wrong. The Templar Armour looks great and even the Oleasian one looks okayisch.

Sadly both are useless for the intended pupose. The pinnacle of defense (plate) is worse of than our Banquet Suit with Dales Loden Wool. And we don´t speak about the abysmal Stats you can give those two.

On the other hand as we speak of Dales Loden Wool. If you use a Mage armor and put these nice T3 Battlemage-Armor arms and legs on with your Warrior, what happens? Yes! You look like a friggen Warrior suddenly. The assests for (at least) Full Plate Arms/Shouldguards are in. they are just only visiable with mage clothing on a Warrior.

Good one. Jokes on me then. Seems i need to run around in a Harnish and leather Armor if i like Warrior stats.

And yes, this is mage Armor.

Origins did not have a great variety of armors for warriors nor mages or rogues. All games are lacking severly in that department imo. But yeah, in 2014 I expect a few cool armors.

Clearly the series has gone in a different direction sine origins (politely putting it) and Bioware seem to want a more stylistic approach to armour designs. It depends upon what you like but I will admit a bit more variety in the armour would have been nice. There's far, far too much replication in this game for my personal liking.

It's pretty bad. I play warriors to be that hulking dude swinging a giant axe about....but I look like a medieval Wesley snipes from Blade with my trench coat and "armored" arms and legs. I really hope they fix this as I care a great deal how my character looks and quite frankly, the gear as a whole is just lack luster.

Id have to agree this game sux for armour variation n DA origins had ten times more armour variation lol ok maybe not quite as much as that but it was enough to satisfy lol for me the game ended up being more about trying to find decent armour than saving ferelden n orlais lol apologies for the **** spelling

The overall item design is very hit and miss in DA:I.

I (thankfully) like most of the light armors and since I'm playing a mage (as I almost always do in any fantasy RPG), at least my own character looks good enough most of the time.

Some of the armors and specially the helmets look really stupid, though. Weapons are also very much out of proportions or are just formed in a way, that makes no sense at all (like this stupid five-finger sword).

It would have been much better to keep closer to real medieval and renaissance armors and weapons, instead of trying to make things look stylish but ending up making them look ridiculous.

I watched the What a Wonderful World trailer again, and was struck by how they had good armor in that. I sighed while asking myself, where is THAT in game???

Where is anything in this game? I don't know why they bother with Vendors (which are static tables rather than people like in Origins) because, with one or two exceptions, they don't seem to sell anything outside of basic gear and even those exceptions don't sell a whole lot of useful items.

Dude. It's all there it's just that the odds of getting that good armor in a chest are low, and even more so for the schematics.
