There is a very strong likelihood that they don't actually know which bugs they can fix yet, meaning they can't tell us what will be in the patch. I'm not trying to stir people up here, and apologies if I have done so; I get that it's frustrating not knowing which parts of the game will be fixed, but I doubt the developers themselves even know the exact answer to that question yet. If they did, the patch would probably be pretty much finished.

I'm not ruling out the possibility that the silence is fuelled entirely by PR avoiding drawing attention to the bugs at all costs, but that wouldn't be a very good PR move in this instance and there are too many other factors that on their own are more than enough to justify the lack of updates.

The usual process is to examine the bugs by priority, estimate how much time is necessary for a fix, and decide which ones they tackle in the time span to release the patch (the devs should have a good idea of how much time it requires, really, unless they are complete beginners).

In any case, for the sake of their reputation (and especially since it's not the first time), I wonder why they didn't opt for releasing a patch sooner, even if fewer problems are solved that way. It would calm people down, at least we would see some sign of goodwill. Now we still don't, and this is exacerbated by the complete lack of communication from their PR.

So it's quite a bad management at several levels.

There are solutions, one would be to open a blog and explaining what they are doing for the top problems. Even if that means some flaming post for people who wants other bugs to be solved, this would give a more tangible feeling of progress. Another one would be a commercial gesture like giving out free DLC.

But we are not seeing any of this, are we?

Retrospectively, for companies like this I wonder if the best option wouldn't be to wait for 1 or 2 months before buying any of their products. Maybe even wait for a discount, seeing how much it costs. Not easy of course, it's human nature to want to get something at the same time as everyone else, to have the feeling of belonging and participating to an new event, but at the end of the day it's not that funny. This new event isn't playing the game anymore, it's more likely something else, as setting the support forums ablaze and waiting for the first patches. Well, I can also do this without buying the game ;)

Hey if you're cool being ignored and mistreated by a corporation like EA that way, feel free to do so. I for one cannot as I have high standards. Something many of you are lacking. As does Bioware apparently.

Don't let the door hit your ego on the way out.

Kinda sick of the game breaking bugs I've had. Bought it digitally through Xbox.com, going to open a ticket and see if can get a refund, as the junk product I have is clearly not fit for purpose, and I don't trust Bioware to actually get it resolved.

Combining the archived DA:O forum and its current tech support forum there are 870 pages and yes, DA:O had lots of bugs and a variety of game breaking ones. It was 8 months before Dexterity was even patched to actually work for daggers for example.

So no, I would actually rather they didn't go back to patching as well as they did during Origins. >.>

*EIGHT* months to patch something as simple and integral as that?

I find that highly disturbing.

BioWare is quite capable when it comes to 'highly disturbing'. I give it to them, they know how to create 'needs' which in turn shifts customers into loyal subjects.

Now I need the patch, a panaceum of digital world.

I had consistent crashing from Holy Smite and IIRC Mana Clash in DA:O. Using those abilities would cause a crash 1/2 or 1/3 times across three difference systems. I think the issue was caused by a patch and never fixed. lol.

But I could live with that. As long as I could take a stroll through Denerim with Alistair. :>

What other Bioware games have had bugs? I have never had a bug in any of the 5 recent games that I have played - DAO, DA2, ME, ME2, ME3...just curious...

The only bug I have noticed in my PS4 version of DAI is that it is hard to hear some of the conversations because the background noise is too loud.... is this being fixed?

Well if you want to know what some of the bugs were for those games look at the patch notes. :>

All of those games were pretty buggy - although like you I dodged most of the bugs.

Anyone else remembers DA2 launch? The technical problems related to DX11 needed 4 different driver releases and 2 patches to allow people to play without constant issues. It took 6-7 weeks to get the game to a semi-stable status. I don't see a brighter future here given the fact there's a lot to fix/change, including gameplay mechanics.

The 2.02 that Sony released helped DAI a lot at least according article I read. Probaply that is why DAI is running pretty smoothly for PS4 players. Because of that I don't know if this patch by Sony will help PS4 players with DAI since I think they have mostly DAI related bugs now. However I wonder if PS3 would need Sony patch as well or are all problems that it has related to DAI.

Honestly, I would expect 1 - or maybe even 2 - more weeks before they patch many of the issues being discussed here.

Patch tomorrow? or they require more time to finish this game? It is difficult to speak about fixing something, while it is unfinished.

So are the bugs related to certain discs or downloads? Seriously I don't understand how one person can get a bug and not another? Just curious...

I had lots of bugs in Skyrim. The freezing ones prevented me from playing the game ultimately. I believed most of those were fixed within the first 18 months to two years -so bought the game again and played it without the freezing problems, but kind of got bored with it...so never finished. Was it the new disc or had indeed all those patches finally worked? I know there was at least 5 or 6 patches to that game ... maybe more.

I wonder about it as well. Al these bugs clearly concern a lot of people, no mater if they play on PC,consoles, bought a digital or 'hard' version of the game.

I have a PC DVD version and even messing with game files manually didn't help about i.e. banter bug.

This is a mystery to me.

Can this be a situation for a class action lawsuit under the "lemon" laws (Yes, I know that was intended for cars, but it surely cleaned up the auto industry when it became a law and was enforced...)?

  • Bioware has sold a broken product knowing it was broken and have charged money. This isn't the first game Bioware has put out that has been broken, nor are they the only gaming comapany doing this unethic move...

  • Either Bioware's moral comapss is broken both on an individual and corporate level or Bioware is lacking severly in the programming department - either way it is very scary and disturbing on a fundemental human level...

  • How about Bioware becomes the exception to the rule of corporate greed and release something that doesn't need 400 patches to work as it was intended in the first place.

Or perhaps Bioware can stop using top of the line rigs, latest OS and clean installs to check for bugs/ breaks and use ordinary everyday rigs...

  • Also, how can Bioware release 3 games under the Dragon Age Series and STILL hand us BROKEN CRAP?!?!?!?!?

Here is are several anolgies that might wake up the gaming industry:

  • What would happen to the food industry if a new food was released and it had several unknown microbes that made people very sick or killed them?  HUGE backlash, right? Think E. Coli and lettuce....

  • What would happen to the auto industry when it comes out that people are being killed by faulty airbags, yet knew of it several years earlier and did nothing to fix it?  Oh wait, that is happening right now....

  • What happens to a company that releases a new, popular game within a popular franchise that has been making them millions of dollars for over a decade and the game is broken from the start (huh?!? sounds like the Sim City thing).  Oh, ya, that comapny had to give away millions of dollars worth of merchandise just to hold on to some fans... Yet, here they are again in a similiar situation...

I wonder how many "ambulance chaser" lawyers are out there that might wan to take on the Gaming Industry so they can make a name for themselves?  Makes one wonder what an internet earch would turn up on that subject....

Extremely frustrated with the status quo...

The PC version is a mess. I can't even start a new game. I just end up controlling my new character where the first cutscene is. I have to recreate the character a couple of times before it's working.

Bioware's PR after ME3 has been a disaster constantly adding fuel to the fire whenever they tried extinguish it. I'm not really surprised they can't handle communications over some bugs. You know you're not doing your job well when Ubisoft's PR is doing a better work than you with a way more buggy game.

Well - the s**tstorm around the Bethesda boards when Skyrim came out also had people calling for lawsuits...so Bioware is not alone..

The problem is that even a quick fix - with a universal release - will take a way via console certification and the response will be viscious if it doesn't fix at least some some game-breaking bugs like the gender label, voice swap or banter bug.
