We were told a new version was coming. Where is it?

Keeping your fans in the dark for years may not always be the best course of action.

Thanks.

I had heard that it was released, But didn't bother to search any further becaue it'd still be a really crappy novel even if they fix it.

I'd say due to share number of error's in the novel Bioware decided its not worth the time and money to fix it. Which is probably for the best since its a lot better to consider it non-canon.

maybe they tried a rewrite and realized there were too many things wrong with it to fix so they scrapped it

That book was seriously broken, I doubt they could be arsed fixing it. They really messed up Kai Leng and that whole first bit on Khar'shan made me cringe so hard. Humans on Khar'shan? Auctions? "Well-dressed volus"? Prothean eggs? A WEAPON THAT TARGETS ONLY THE ILLUSIVE MAN'S DNA?!

Seriously, the whole thing was garbage.

It was a crap book. Why would you want to re-read that just to correct continuity errors? Fixing that up would have been a complete waste of time.

Nah, 'Twas not released again. Bioware even disconsidered the Book. The Only thing they ever moved to No-Cannon section in the MEU

I wonder what happened to the writer of the novel...

Oh, also there isn't any mention of those things in-game, the Previous Novels (Retribution, Ascencion and Revelation) Cover it pretty well. ESPECIALLY the Kai Leng Part.

Mass Effect: Deception is Canon. I have heard no news of it being non-canon despite desperately wanting it to be non-canon. Source?

I too heard it's not considered canon at this point anymore. I mean, how could it be? It goes against the already established canon.

I understand that, But as far as the official canon goes, It's still canon unfortunately.

I heartily recommend to all my friends and colleagues never to let such proposed trappings keep us from individually cherry-picking shear nonsense out of our personal readings of fictional timelines.

Well it can't be considered canon, have you seen all the inconsistencies with the lore, characters, etc?

Just to enumerate a few errors:

In the book, it is said that Batarians have an embassy in the the Citadel. False, they closed it after a colonization dispute over the Skyllian Verge.

Kai Leng visits Chora's Den. Impossible, it was closed after Sovereign's attack on the Citadel. It never re-opened.

Kai Leng is said to have been an N6 before joining Cerberus. False, he was an N7.

You can read all of them here: https://docs.google...._cmo/edit?pli=1

Yes, It had a lot of inconsistencies, But BioWare hasn't announced it as non-canon. To be honest, I can't be considered canon or non-canon for now. But its current "Official" status is canon. And btw, I still think Gillian would have made a great ME3 squadmate.

Is it really important whether or not it is canon? Is there actually any revelation in it that is important to the future of the franchise and hasn't been presented elsewhere? Somehow I doubt it, it seems inconsequential to me.

That's it to you maybe, But to me, Every tiny fact has to be understood and analyzed correctly in order to make my arguments constructive and valid.

For a universe where the introductory story relies on an entirely vague and magical brain cipher delivered secondhand from a sentient plant, I wouldn't really recommend this course of action.

Here is the official response: Link

I would not consider something that the developers specifically stated erroneous on the same level as, say, Mass Effect Revelation. The way I see it, their statement indirectly states that the novel is not canon until it's fixed.

I personally don't see what's wrong with leaving things vague to add the thrill of mystery to the atmosphere. It also can be used to create some decent twist endings. The Mass Effect universe is much deeper in substance than what it appears to be, You just have to analyze the storyline more thoroughly.

I'm sure they are just hoping that everybody will forget about it. Deception was... a traumatizing experience.

Thanks, V; That was exactly what I was looking for :)

@Leo: Can't be cannon, Especially the Part of Nick and Gillian both being 18 Years old, when in the previous novels, they had 13. That alone makes up for the fact that it isn't cannon.

I think Deception's official status at this point is non-canon.

Originally a rewrite was promised, but now it seems as if they've just washed their hands of it and pretend it doesn't exist. I suggest we do likewise.  B)
