Hi,

 

So I've gotten to Skyhold and just got the quests to unlock my advanced class.  I'm playing as a Mage, I'm level 9 right now - about half way to level 10.  I usually play with Cassandra, Varric and Dorian in my party.  I'm playing on HARD.

 

So, SO MUCH of the map is open now, I'm not sure where I should go level next.  I really wish the zones had suggested levels in their description text. I have pretty much cleared the Hinterlands save the very SW portion.  Dabbled in Fallow Mire, done about 40% of Storm Coast.  

 

I'm intimidated by all the places I can go now.  I have about 15 power to spare/unlock places.  I've unlocked the place on the very Western Side with the crystals but haven't explored it at all. 

 

I'm looking for direction on where I should go next and how I should best progress.  Thanks!

Go where ever you like, really. Explore. If you encounter enemies you can't handle, retreat* and come back later

 

But I agree, some sort of recommended level indicator would be nice in the description text. You are being consulted by the scouts after all before you enter the area.

 

 

 

*It's not really a retreat, it's advancing to a different direction.

I would recommend clearing Hinterlands --> Storm Coast --> Fallow Mire in this particular order (I got into Skyhaven after clearing HL + SC as much as I could, skipping FM).

 

After clearing these three areas, I went to Crestwood and followed quests from there to Western Approach.

And level recommendations are following:

 

The Hinterlands: Levels 4-12+

Fallow Mire: Levels 8-15

Storm Coast: Levels 7-15+

Forbidden Oasis: Levels 8-20

Crestwood: Levels 10-13+

The Western Approach: Levels 10-14+

The Exalted Plains: Levels 10-16

Emerald Graves: Levels 14-20

Emprise du Lion: Levels 16-22

The Hissing Wastes: Levels 19-23

I went to the Exalted Plains right after, but it's up to you.  Thinking back, it may have been wiser to go to Crestwood, as you need to go there for one of the main quests anyway, and by this point I'm overleveled because I spent too much time in the Plains.

 

Really, it's up to you.  I'd recommend between the Plains, Crestwood, or the Western Approach.  It's your Inquisition, you choose

Couple more questions:

 

Do I get experience for doing basic fetch/find quests for people? I dont see my XP bar going up when I do.  It seems I only get XP from killing things or reading codexes.  Is that right?

 

Would you suggest I go to Fallow or Storm Coast then till level 10 at least?

I would go to Storm Coast before Fallow Mire, since the enemies in Fallow are a BIT higher levelled.  But yeah that's a good plan

One more thing: when am I good enough to face a Dragon? Found one in the Hinterlands!

11-14 depending on how you are at the game.

The one in the Hinterlands is level 12, and is the lowest levelled dragon in the game. Unless you're super awesome, id wait to go face it until you're at least 12-13.
