The game has found some kind of cozy middle ground between Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. If you feel comfortable with your kid engaging in content that may be raunchy, somewhat sexual, gory or morally grey then have at it. The few instances where you see actual nudity are easy to avoid. The violence and other mature themes are not. We're talking about a game that even begins with a mass murder!
Is there a way to avoid romance/sexuality?

If you're worried about what it might do to your child, then seriously, sex is the least of your worries. You get to kill people by the thousands, for whatever reason, sometimes just because you don't like them.
That's much more worrying than some lame sex scene, but no one cares. Without the sex scene, we wouldn't even be having this discussion because it would get a PG13 rating and everyone would buy it for their kids.
The idea that sex is wrong is what's wrong here, not that it's in the game. The idea that massive violence somehow isn't bad is what's bad here.
You're not reading what I'm saying, just preaching, so I'll just respond one more time; I *know* my son knows the consequences of physical violence in real life. I also know that I'm not going to let him play games like Dragon Age or Mass Effect, even though he won't be negatively affected by shooting make believe bad guys, because I know that he would not understand the plots and get frustrated. Because I know my kid. He's perfectly happy playing Sonic, Ratchet and Clank, and Sly Cooper games, and while he'll watch me kill a dragon in DA:I, he's not that interested in playing himself.
So yeah, again, I'm trying to be a responsible parent. And as a responsible parent, I know that there are opportunities for my kid (who again, is not mature enough to understand what he would be seeing) to get his hands on sexually explicit material. One of my nephews gets agitated and moody after playing video games for more than an hour or two at a time. His mom is being responsible by seeing that and limiting play time. My son isn't much of a gamer, but I know that because I'm watching out for him, he'll be okay when/if he does want to play more sophisticated games.
And again, he doesn't understand the mechanics of sex. It would be grossly irresponsible for me to let him see sex scenes while he still doesn't "get it", and I don't think he needs that anyway. So what exactly is the problem with what I'm saying about how I'm keeping my kid away from sexual content? Are you claiming that because my kid is exposed to the cartoon violence of Ratchet and Clank, I'm a hypocrite if he can't see sex scenes from God of War?

You're right, but bear in mind what brought this topic to life: someone wanting to buy this game for their 12 year old.
My preaching was more directed at those (used 'we' in the OP, so must be a couple) than you, but I responded to you so this is what I get for it
This whole discussion is nonsense anyway, as I mentioned way earlier in this thread: game is rated mature for a reason. You shouldn't even want to buy this for your kid, for that reason alone.

LOL, okay then, I wasn't sure what I was saying to get that response. It's all good.
Personally, if I did want a kid to get more into RPGs, I'd go old school and give them JRPGs like Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger, but maybe they'd see those as dated.

I'd have to agree with the majority here, it's a mature game with mature themes, even if you blank out the sex scenes, its heavily implied in places and it's not as simple as 'click x to remove sex' I'd be hesitant to show it to my child if I thought they werent ready for all differing aspects that come with that maturity. Filtering that sort of content just doesn't work for these sorts of games.

Another case of totally ignoring the violence but SEX IS BAD!
Game's not for kids, PERIOD, Sex/Violence, any of it. If you think otherwise, it's time to reevaluate your morals.
Sigh.
