Story/Content/Roleplay wise, which brings more to the table? Human Male Mage, or Female Elven Mage (Solace Romance)? (No Spoilers!)

Female Elven Mage who Romances Solas! It brings so much more to the story!

TRUST ME. Without giving anything away that you can't learn from the trailers or prologue, Solas is a central member of the Inquisition; a core party member who's been around since Day 1, and whose knowledge and expertise of the Fade provides valuable guidance for the Inquisitor's mission to seal the Breach. Added that he's also an elven apostate, he'll have so much in common an Elven Mage Inquisitor. He's also a great, interesting, likable character in his own right, and a darling romance.

And, without giving anything specific away, the game (especially the second half) has a lot of content and information that is pertinent to elves. It is not only VERY interesting, but feels personally relevant to an Elven Inquisitor. Solas being a central party member, a fellow elven mage, and the Quizzy's romance, just adds so much to the story and experience.

My first playthrough was as a Female Elven Mage Inquisitor who romanced Solas, and I'm flat out having trouble playing as any other character because, story-wise, it doesn't feel as relevant, moving, or fitting as a female elven mage did.

Female Dalish Keeper's First! You won't regret it!

The only extra stuff the female elf gets is a cutscene talking about their tattoos , that is if you are romancing Solas , but you also miss the extra contents you would get if you romanced say Cassandra , elf related stuff only start to hit when you get to latter part of the game before that its pretty much a human centric game.

Both characters offer some great roleplaying and lore for your game
However, if you were to choose a human mage, i strongly recommend trying something different.

Role a Loyalist mage.

It has been such a rewarding character and it allows me to explore options i normally wouldn't consider.

I loved playing as a female Dalish mage,I usually play various characters but I became really attached to my current Lavellan and I haven't even finished this playthrough.Plus the Solas romance, which is one of the best written romances in the series imho.

I've played both as a human male (2h warrior) who romanced Cass and was a devout Andrastan (sp?) and I played as a female elf rift mage who romanced Solas.  I think these are the best two play-throughs from a story perspective.  Cass is the very first person you meet, basically keeps you from being executed (so it makes sense you'd crush on her), and then starts the inquisition.  In many ways the inquisition is really her inquisition - it is strongly influenced by her world-view, religious faith and doubt, and her resulting actions.  I find her perhaps to be the most compelling character in the game, and maybe in all of the Dragon Age games, although that's obviously personal opinion.  The female elf mage w/Solas is kind of the flip side of the story, IMO since so much of the main storyline seems to me to be about the clash between the current collapsing world built by the Chantry and the collapsed world of the elves (both of which seem to be societies that have both compassion and corruption).

So human/Cass vs. elf/Solas have each seemed to me the most moving, story-wise because both LIs have so much of themselves invested in the quest, beyond just wanting to save the world.  So much so, that I keep having trouble romancing Sera, even though I'm sure it would be entertaining.  And I have started about 3 different Qunari characters and just can't seem to give a damn about any of them.  My duel-wield dwarf was kind of fun, but not particularly compelling in any story way.

FYI, I did the female elven mage play through first.  Also, I almost never play RPGs as male characters (so many games force male characters on you, that it's nice to get the opportunity to play a female), but I was so glad I did!  I was surprised by how attached I became to my romance with Cass.

I've played both as a human male (2h warrior) who romanced Cass and was a devout Andrastian and I played as a female elf rift mage who romanced Solas.

How convenient. These are my next two playthroughs! :D

Although I'm thinking of romancing Josephine and keeping my relationship with Cassandra platonic since I want to make her Divine.

I'm assuming Cass breaks up with you if she becomes the Divine. If not then I'd reconsider.

I believe you can make her Divine and not actually break up, although there are hints it might not be all roses and wine in the future.  I didn't make her divine since, although I'm near the very end, I still haven't finished it, which maybe I should've disclosed in the earlier post (if so, apologies).  But that's my understanding from some of the threads, although you should obviously research this yourself.  Even if you are forced to break up with her, I'd still choose her as the romance option.  It's a really nice story, at least to me, and has so much more weight with that background for the character, IMO.

I should find out in the next week, since as time permits, I'm going to finish the playthrough and making her divine is pretty much next on my things to do.  I'm also going to do everything possible to keep from getting dumped!

IMO both of these work well equally. IMO Human Male Mage with Cassandra and Female Elven Mage with Solas (though I don't have to play it to see the narrative value) are hands down the two best backgrounds and should be the canons/defaults for their respective genders.

Some people may disagree.

I think the most sensible play through it terms of story fluidity is playing a mundane human. I can't see how the people of southern thedas would rally under the inquisition when it's run by a mage. During this game's events the fear of magic is at an all time high so it would make much more sense for them to follow someone who is more "similar" to them. The story of a mundane is Also more compelling than most believe. While there is no denying the impact of playing a mage in terms of the breach, playing a mundane is significant because it represents the theme of a New era. The elder one (don't want to spoil who it is) embodies the past when mages ruled, while the inquisitior embodies the New era in which mundane are no longer ruled by others. That's just my 2 cents though so do with it as you wish :P

I think it's largely up to the personal tastes of the individual player, but I do feel the female elf romancing Solas has more connections to the larger story arc, especially if in the previous games your Warden was Dalish and Hawke romanced Merrill.
