Can anyone explain how using a mic works in MP or point me in the direction of a guide?

 

I've only ever used 3rd party voice programs. Is there a push to talk option? I ask this because it seems without fail in every group I end up in, there's one person who seems to have their mic permanently on and all I get is feedback or reconstituted and delayed gameplay audio from their end. I know how to mute, but it's irritating nonetheless.

 

I also find that the quality of audio from many players using a mic is very poor - stuttery and unintelligible. Rarely do I hear someone crystal clear. Is this an issue with lag/connectivity?

The mic is always on for DAMP (no push-to-talk option), just don't ask me why.

Hmmm okay. So if you're not using headphones for your own audio output you're feeding back to the whole group.

Yes.  It's constantly transmitting. I've had a lot of matches with obnoxious echoing in the background because at least one person had a mic but wasn't using headphones.
