Hi

I wasn't sure which forum this was best in. I am looking for the program that generates a bunch of random terrain from nothing. I am not sure if this was it, I know terra coppa can cut and paste areas but looking more for the generation. What was that utility called?

YATT, yet another terrain tool

I found it time intensive, and realized that areas generated with it have such a 'natural' ambience that once you use YATT for one area you got to use it for all,

I've fooled around with YATT, mostly importing grey-scale height maps. I was able to make an island that looked like Australia, and a large crater based on a real meteor impact crater.

I have access to a couple of terabytes worth of LiDAR digital terrain models here at work, which I could easily generate grey-scale height maps from. It would certainly make for realistic mountainous terrain.

I think one (Grinning Fool?) did publish a bunch of areas made with YATT. I use them from time to time, rescaled, rebaked etc, because they are all 32x32 which is to big for my taste. But awesome looking. This took me less time thatn using YATT on my own, because as KevL said... time intensive.

you will need to find either pre-generated height-maps or use a program like L3DT to generate them,  erikbreau made a nice tutorial of using L3Dt and yatt to make multiple areas at one time Ill look and see if its on the new vault if not I'll try and find where I saved it to and post it if you are interested. there is also a terrain generator in replug which is posted to the new vault, I haven't used that one personally but I have used erikbreau's method and it turns out some nice areas but you may have to play around with L3DT for a bit to get something you like.

I looked for ntb's various packs of yatt areas on new vault, but didn't find them. I'm sure they're there somewhere.
