So...what is the purpose of the Inquisition after the ending? Divine Victoria is elected and she may have reinstated the Templars and/or Seekers. The Chantry is not part of the Inquisition. So what is the Inquisition's purpose now? Is it just a political player, like a new Kingdom within Orlais? Sort of like the Teutonic Knights?

To serve Emperor Gaspard in consolidating authority with the crown, We both benefit from this relationship

There are several conversations about whether the Inquisition should 'put its swords away when the job is done' or try and continue to 'act as a force for good'. I think this would be an interesting decision to make in an expansion.

To do whatever the Divine tells us to do, apparently.

Yeah. Originally it was created to resolve the Breach and solve the mysteries behind the Conclave. Now that's over with, the Inquisition stands alone as a third party to its own ends. Whatever the player thinks it is, the organization is pretty powerful at the end.

I'm not sure why people seem to think the Inquisition is "independent." Even if you ignore Josephine telling you in the beginning that all of your power if borrowed, the epilogue slides show the Divine clearly using the Inquisition to force her policies.

And whoever ruling Orlais is using the Inquisition's power to maintain its stability.

But the Divine does not control the Inquisition. And the Inquisition now has mages/former templars in its ranks plus a lot of agents as as well.
It is independent from Orlais. It just seems like it is simply another Kingdom within Orlais? It may help out the Divine or the Emperor but they both have their own forces and do not control the Inquisition.

All the Inquisition forces, aside from the few volunteers, are all borrowed. The Inquisition doesn't have a large number of Templar or mages. Josephine also makes it clear any real power is owed to the Chantry and the nobles and while you may be "independent" you still serve them. It's not really that surprising.

They become the first Jedi Order of Thedas.

Well, the Inquisition now has the potential to be a powerful force by itself. Maybe it's working with the Divine now, and the Empress, but that may not always be the case. It's flat out stated in the very beginning of the game that the Inquisition is not going to be a part of the Chantry

Just think of the Inquisition as The Grey Wardens Order of the old when people saw them as being important with a purpose to exist.
Now, think of the Wardens when there isn't a Blight. Sooner or later, Thedas will see the Inquisition like how they see the Grey Wardens Order of today, and I will use a quote from the Calling book, "You will guard them and they will hate you for it. Whenever there is not a Blight actively crawling over the surface, humanity will do its best to forget how much they need you. And that's good. We need to stand apart from them, even if they have to push us away to make us do it. That is the only way we can ever make the hard decisions."

The Epilogue makes clear that the Inquisition by the end has recruited a lot of people for its own army rather than borrowing from other places.
What would the Inquisition guard exactly? I just do not know what the purpose of the Inquisition would be? Because it is not fully aligned with either Chantry or Empire and although it works with them, it does not have to. So it can't just be a new enforcement army at the beck and call of the Chantry/Empire. It already has a lot of recruits and is just literally an army with its own castle and outposts.

Maybe for you, you played wrong. Didn't absorb the Templar order like a good myn, Play your cards right and most of them will remain behind after the conflict (No matter who your divine is)

I believe Inquisition will prevail as a dominant order of the Chantry, but eventually become a lot more. Think real-life Templars. They had influence pretty much anywhere.

Its speculated that the inquisition might come under attack again or something to do with investigating weisshaupt will come up, due to the epilogue slides. They kind of left it like origins did for awakening in the epilogue. Now for weisshaupt, that could be a dlc or maybe just a hint at the setup for the next game.

In my ending the Templar decided by unanimous decision to stay in the inquisition, Divine Leliana doesnt use the Inquisition, Celene need the inquisition to stay in power and the Inquisition have a army that rivals kingdoms.

For me, all companions and basically everyone I recruited chose to stay and live in Skyhold {or to come in and out as workers- only Varric, Vivienne, and Cassandra} for the Inquisition. From what they all kept telling me, the Inquisition was needed to clean up after the bad guy and then to help stop any other corruptions that didn't meet the Inquisition's eye during the main fight. After that, Morrigan went on to say that the Inquisition is a force needed to help keep the world running now that they've changed it and is going to be needed due to enemies that will spring up because of their hatred for the Inquisition. And, then, there's always the Solas thing and Flemeth issue.

They become the first Jedi Order of Thedas.
Who become the SIth then?
I suppose the Venatori, but at the end of the game they're all but wiped out...

thinking about it, i would assume their mission would be the investigation of red lyrium and getting rid of it... wardens fight the blighted darkspawn, and the inquisition fights the blighted red lyrium.... then they all join forces and create the justice league

I can imagine my Inquisition has a continuing agenda of investigating the abuse of magic. My Inquisitor said in her inauguration speech that they'll show the world the good side of magic. I think she'll work together with the Enchanter's College to spread the idea that magic can be used freely like any other tool as long as it harms nobody, while remaining vigilant against its undeniably chaotic nature and possible abuses.

I see the Inquisition as the real life Teutonic Knights. They will have their own kingdom and eventually the Inquisitor will become a king. All my templars stayed with me and I have recruited a lot of people.
