A way I've made the game run faster! (NVIDIA)

So I was having some real lag issues using 2xMSAA with a GTX 970 card, since I hate playing with it off because it looks ugly I decided to try and make it run faster. I went into the NVIDIA control panel and then to "Manage 3D settings", went to "Program Settings", chose DAI and changed the Anti Aliasing mode to Override and both Anti Aliasing Setting and Transparency to 4xSS. I also turned off MFAA since I was getting these weird lines on the ground in darker areas.

Needless to say I've seen an increase in around 5-10 frames, this is something people with NVIDIA cards should try if you see yourself lagging. My thoughts on why this works is that the game is actually using 4x Super Grid Supersampling, which is heavier then the usual Supersampling, overriding the settings to use only Supersampling increases performance. You can also change it to 2xSS if you are lagging with 4xSS.

Hope this works with you guys! If not, you can restore the settings back to default.   :D

Here are my settings:

I will give it as go.  Fingers crossed.

So anti aliasing mode is set to 'override any applications setting' and anti aliasing transparency is set to 2 x SS?

Yes, override, I have mine on 4xSS and it's perfect, if you have trouble with 4 try 2xSS!

Love to hear some other opinions on this...

Tangentially, in case it helps someone looking to get a bit more stability, I was getting a rash of CTDs over the past couple days... switched to Borderless WIndow and it's run better since and I haven't had a crash.

I play most games that way since I always Alt+Tab on loading screens :P

I also checked out this thread and it helped a lot with micro stutters when moving the camera!

I'll be damned, the mouse smoothing suggestion actually appears to work. It's typical of PC gaming in a way: you can get a new graphics card, update drivers, force external AA, change your BIOS and customize a .cfg file in order to solve an issue, but it almost always ends up being a minor and seemingly unrelated setting somewhere that makes most of the difference.

I know right! I was as amazed as you are. I actually turned it all the way to the left before starting the game and thought the stutters were from the game being poorly optimized.

And do you run the game in borderless window mode for this to work?

...

So the reason some people had stuttering was because the devs accidentally reversed the Mouse Smoothing slider?

*facepalm*

I don't know if that effects it, I don't think it should. I do run on bordreless window though.

Okay, thanks. And do you also turn of post process AA in game?

I actually put that on low for a crisper image, on high it's a little too blurry.

How about your control panel v-sync, what setting do you have this on?

why i do not have MFAA?

MFAA is available only for Maxwell GPUs (GTX 900 series) and currently doesn't work with SLI.

Edit.

OP, are you positive those settings actually do anything? Forcing AA through the control panel hasn't worked with DA:I for me at any point and it still doesn't.

Everything is left on default except the mode, setting and transparency. So for vsync, it would be application controlled, and in the game I have it off.
