I think Scout Harding would be an excellent option for a romantic NPC DLC which won't break up the game as we already know it. It's easy to make romantic scenes for her that don't have to interrupt the main story line. You can even give her story missions that start by talking to her (like with the others) so we can know more about her.

Reasons for this is:

- You can already flirt with her.

- She's not a party companion, making it all easier.

- She's constantly present in Skyhold, which allows the Inquisitor to always find a way to communicate with her.

Just like Josephine and Cullen, you can make a light fun adventure with some well placed words and cutscenes. You can even make it so that she acts the same towards you when she scouts a new area after romance initiation, which she can explain by saying she wants to look professional.

And yes, the Dwarfness is an added bonus. <3

My wallet is ready! (obligatory please bisexual non-gated)

edited to avoid confusion!

Given that Harding appears in several of the scripted story scenes where you otherwise only see members of the Inner Circle, her constant presence in Skyhold, and the flirting options being there, I'm wondering if she was originally designed as a party member and then scrapped for some reason and turned into the scout role that's there already.

Unless the Gaider embargo is somehow lifted, the chances of a dwarf romance are nil. Harding is just the writers' way of taunting us with what we can't have.

I doubt she was ever slated for the Party, Varric is already a dwarven archer, so she would have been redundant,

Someone said once that she mentions waiting till all the crazy stuff is over to look into a relationship, so she may have a romnace in one of the DLCs set after the main story,

Harding seems custom made to avoid the whole "looks like a little girl" thing that made some of the staff squicked out about the idea of dwarf romances, As She has mature facial features voice work and demeanor,

Who's to say that early in development Harding was the Dwarven archer and Varric played a much lesser role? I could actually imagine Varric having a seat in Skyhold's main hall, telling epic tales of the Inquisitor's deeds to the people around him. Rather than being a PC, he'd be another minstrel like the one in the inn, only instead of singing, he'd be regaling us with epic tales of bravery and heroism. Given his popularity, adding Varric to the Inner Circle may have been a fanservice decision during the development process.

That's true, but a dwarf romance still goes against Gaider's stated potion. Until he declares that he's changed his mind, I'm not inclined to treat it as serious possibility.

He's been very well advertised from the begging of the games marketing,  while i can't remember Harding showing up in any major role, so if she was planned as a Companion it was changed well before actual development really started,

He already said that he isn't against dwarf romances, people just took his statement about being disturbed by the scene between Alistar and a dwarf PC looking like a man sleeping with a 14 year old, out of context and out of proportion, he has a thread about it on these very forums somewhere,

I would've loved to properly romance Harding, flirting with her is really fun!

Make her dwarf relations only. Doesnt have to involve bed time to make it real. Take a page from the sam scene in the hobbit

Problem there is she already responds positively to all Inkys, so making her race gated now would be like a precision guided kick in the groin.

Ah, ok. I was under the impression he was somewhat more emphatic about than that. I guess hope springs eternal then.

here is a quote from him on the matter

That is so. Fantasy dwarves are not real-life dwarfs.

Also? I was joking, as I believe I even mentioned in that thread. Those comments were after people took something I'd said earlier out of context to mean "David Gaider thinks dwarf sex is gross" ...when what I'd said was that we'd reviewed the sex scenes in DAO with a "worst case scenario", and the Alistair scene was done with a dwarf made to look like a young girl (with pigtails and such) and that had left me a little traumatized. I clarified that as well, but nobody paid any attention to that clarification either, so I've pretty much given up on trying to assure people that I don't hate dwarf romances.

So, yup. Dwarves are gross. Eww. Feel free to quote that out of context and spread it around.

I hadn't even heard the rumor about no'd dwarf romances, aha; oh well, it seems to not be true and merely a case of people taking David being snarky out of context. It happens! Glad to hear there isn't a total embargo because yeah I would love to go after Harding SHE'S ADORABLE.

Yep, BioWare really needs to show dwarves more love. Varric is not everyone's cup of tea, plus we need romanceable dwarves! Harding is a perfect fit.

Man, Sigrun would have been the best.

Varric and Harding are tied for second best.

She brings "being a more appealing character than Sera" to the table.

I believe most of us are leaning towards her being an NPC romance, not becoming a party member,

She brings "being a more appealing character than Sera" to the table.

That is a matter of personal tastes, some of us like the refreshing take on a street smart character whose lack of books smarts or long term planning is a legit flaw,

I don't understand the problem with character redundancy if you can permanently dismiss particular companions (or not recruit them in the first place). Give us Harding and Sera, and let us decide who to use.

Besides, as heretical as it might sound (I haven't tried it, personally), can't you make Varric a daggers rogue if you so choose?
