Well, I reloaded, chose virgins, and he was actually very funny about it - said "Where would I find you that many virgins these days? Actually, I have one, but you probably wouldn't want him." And offered me a supercool +52(I think?) Master Corrupted Rune instead. I readily agreed, no disapproval whatsoever from Cassandra(!), Cole and Solas. Actually, Solas even encouraged me to listen.

I thought the option to choose virgins and then angrily attack when he offers something else as a substitute was too good to not take. I headcanon that my character was trolling though my companions did not seem to be amused.
