Interesting experience I've had with Adaptive Sync today. So since I set the game in Nvidia CP to use Adaptive Sync (v-sync turned off ingame) and Triple Buffering, I have been getting very frequent and odd issues. Randomly the game would fully lock up and my Nvidia driver would crash which has only happened to me ONCE in the past year with some other game. And the game would also hard lock up and just be frozen but I could still hear sound. Set the default setting in the Nvidia CP and it appears to be fine now. I am also using the newest Nvidia drivers - 347.09

Wow how did I miss they're making a mod tool kit.

Bye Bye stable game lol.

They're making what?! That's great news if true!  :pinched:

I just read today that Triple Buffering is apparently enabled in Frostbite games by default, so I will try disabling it in Nvidia Inspector and leave only Adaptive V-sync on, just to see if that brings any improvements! :P

Ok ladies and gents, apparently the Frostbite 3 engine really does have Triple Buffering forced on at all times, even with V-sync turned off in the in-game menu, which means that if you are not using V-sync at all, or only just Adaptive V-sync from the Control Panel, you can/should force Triple Buffering off using the following "user.cfg" command for reduced input lag:

RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0

After trying this for myself with Adaptive V-sync, I can confirm that the game does feel noticeably smoother at all times. Please have a go at trying it for yourselves if you can spare the time and report back with your findings!  :P

I'm having 0 issues with Adaptive+Triple Buffering. I've read many people having issues with the 347.09 driver (crashes, locks, bsod...). I have still the 344.75 and no problems. Nvidia rushed that new driver, in fact they're the same as the beta version, they recognized it on geforce.com:

Yes, but now with WHQL certification. Some folks only download WHQL, hence the update to the story."

It was so bizarre out of nowhere my game started freezing and crashing as I was leaving the crafting area in Haven, the same exact spot 5 different times.

In the User.cfg I removed the max CPU cores line, I added the turn off triple buffering thing. I also turned off Adaptive sync in the nvidia CP and now it works fine. Jeez I must have borked something up hard.

Were you having those issues with previous drivers?

No, but the weird thing is I have been using the beta 347.09 and played the game just fine. It wasn't until a weird combination of v-sync settings and the user.cfg and nvidia CP settings must have done something. But it's running fine now that I changed a lot of stuff back to default.

Has anybody tried playing on Windows 10 Technical Preview? Im considering using a spare HDD to see if there is any difference compared to Windows 7 (similar to Windows 8.1) and was wondering if anybody ran into issues getting the game to work. Thanks.

I see, thanks a lot for your input! I've still left Triple Buffering forced off, since I'm a stickler for minimal input lag.  :P

I wouldn't be surprised if the CPU cores commands were actually the cause of your crashes, since messing with how your system distributes its CPU load can certainly do that to your rig. I think it might be a good idea not to use them at all, since they don't seem to do much anyway in terms of FPS anyway.

I know Scoobydooby was planning on testing DA:I on the Windows 10 Technical Preview, but I'm not sure if he did that already or not. Still, disregarding any and all possible extra bugs and crashes do to it being a beta OS, DA:I can only run just as well or better on Windows 10 compared to Windows 8.1 (i.e. noticeably better than on Windows 7)! If you are planning on trying this out for us, I do admit I would be more than curious to read your results should you find the time! Good luck!  :D

What would you be curious to see aside from FPS differences?

For reference my specs are

Intel Core i7-870 @2.93ghz (can oc to 4.0ghz havent stress tested for more than 15min)

12GB DDR3-1333 (can oc to 1500 @ 3.6ghz, 1200 @ 4.0ghz)

EVGA GTX 570 1.25GB (347.09 Drivers)

Samsung 840 Pro 128GB

Windows 7

I'd like to see what effect Triple Buffering on/off has on fps or stutter.

I must have not noticed it 2 weeks ago, but my most recent play through I'm doing now. I am getting an unbelievable amount of driver crashing during cutscenes. All of a sudden the screen will go blank and the sound will still play but the sound will stutter and be in like slow mode. Then one of two things will happen, either the game will be a white screen and the nvidia driver will crash or the whole computer locks up.

I have no idea why this is happening now all of a sudden, on my other playthrough I am almost positive I had the newest nvidia drivers and rarely got this...I think?

Rather than just pure framerate measurements, I would also like your opinion on the smoothness/stuttering while playing it on Windows 10 vs. Windows 7, since that is the most significant improvement brought by upgrading the OS.  ;)

I'd like to see what effect Triple Buffering on/off has on fps or stutter.

FPS-wise it does not matter at all from what I've seen, but the game appeared to be tearing a lot more with Triple Buffering on, compared to with it forced off. Furthermore, like I mentioned in a previous post, the controls felt considerably smoother (i.e. panning the camera around, travelling through the world). Since this is not something that can be easily measured, I guess you should try it for yourself and see if you think it's an improvement as well or not.  :P

Wow, I totally missed this, thanks a lot for posting. I'll give it a read when I have the time!  ;)

Ya I can do some before/after. Ill get some graph renders/logs for both 7 and 10 with cpu/gpu showing in-game. I was going to try to do it tonight but the power has been iffy so Ill just get the Windows 7 info. What I can say so far is testing my rig vs a laptop with an i7-4700hq, GT 750m and 8GB of ram running 8.1 is that while the performance wasn't as good (thermal throttle) the stability shown on the graphs was outstanding compared to what I get. Frankly it seems no matter what I do it will always have the cpu spike like crazy and overclocking made it worse.

Edit: I decided to run around a bit more and fiddle with some of the console commands and I experience pretty much the same issues that is listed under the upgrade os section. The one difference is my FPS varies a hell of a lot more (25-60) but usually hovers closer to 25-45 at least in Haven (after the prologue and first cutscene). In the prologue Id say my fps hovered around 30-50 with occasional dips into the high 20's but the boss battle was constant sub 30. It doesn't matter what settings I use as the issues still persist. Windows 10 is tomorrow so that shall be an experience.

I've literally never had to do this before in all my years gaming but I am actually going to have to downgrade my nvidia drivers to 344.75, I cant belive how much crashing I am getting with the newest drivers, its insane.

Edit: OH NEVERMIND...jeez I just downgraded and still freezing in the same exact spot...what the ef is going on all of a sudden :(

347.09 are doing that to a lot of people and downgrading won't help unless you clean everything they left behind. My advice is to check their forums, I'm sure the users there can share more. :(

hey there, first of all, happy new year everybody  :wizard:

I just wanted to share this: By enabling adaptive vsync and setting pre-rendered frames to 4 in Nvidia Control Panel the game started to play much smoother.I haven't experienced any input lag either.

Though, my only problem with adaptive vsync is, i get tearing as soon as the FPS hits 59  :(

I tried for about 2 weeks to get this game to work,pre-patch and after. Continious CTD`s and a few BSOD`s and DX errors.I tried all the fixes posted here and elsewhere but had no joy.I did manage a complete play through because sometimes the game would run for a few hours with no glitches. It was an extremely frustrating play through.lol

I got a nice bonus for Christmas so splashed out on a GTX970 and 850W power supply. The game ran fantastic......for 20 mins:( Started getting various BSOD`s then my DVD player stopped working.I`d had this before on an older system so knew how to remedy this.Didn`t work as my boot partition was trashed.

After a couple of days pulling my remaining hair out i finally managed, after a complete reinstall of my OS, to get my rig working again.

I played Skyrim with about 20 mods for a few hours with no problems (don`t throw bricks please:)) then tried the game again on low settings, windows full screen and no overlays. The usual CTD`s,DX errors occured and the BSOD`s became rampant.Though i`d already ran all the memory tests and hardrive checks i did them again. All passed after long hours testing.

At this point i was seriously considering buying a new rig as my current one was very close to flying out the window along with my digitally downloded DA:I.

When you get really frustated because you think you have tried everything you suddenly remember something you read somewhere .....try using other memory chips.I didn`t think it was worth it as i`d checked my memory so many times but i had 4GB memory sitting in my old rig,so even though i doubted the game would run on that paltry amount i swapped it in.Guess what?  The game run fine on low settings for 10 hours.Loading times were slow but the game run without any problems.

Next day i bought 16GB of memory and the game is flying.Ultra settings and about 20 hours play with no crashes.

My conclusion is before you try anything else get your hands on some different memory chips, steal them from your wives computer or even get your best mate drunk:)

   Happy New Year everyone.

Happy New Year to you as well.I`m not an expert but i`ve been using computers for about 25 years and find butting my head against the wall eventually produces the desired effect:)

Happy New Year. I don't have much issues on PC as i'm onto 25 years too on using computer. Many issues came from users own problem (hardwares or compatibility) except the genuine issues that really came from the software. I have taught and provide many help to gamers alike but i grew tired because many are really not PC literate. When you get BSODs on windows, RAM is the first thing you should check.

Happy New year to you..I think the main point about my post was "yes it has happened to you".When your rig build is less than 6 months old it`s difficult to believe you have hardware faults.Considering the price of the game plus new graphics card, power supply and memory i `ve spent about £600 getting my game to work.

I really wish i had swapped out memory chips earlier but i believed all the tests i ran.

So it`s seems the best cure for all our woes is to try some other MC`s.Tell you this i`m pretty scared my new memory gets f****d as well..As usual my rig was running perfect until i ran this game.

Happy new year. Have you tried the limiting fps command line in the OP? It might help. I'm experiencing partial screen tearing too, although it only happens when I do really fast camera movement.

I had one or two BSOD a year ago. All of the sudden. I searched for a while till I found something. Windows told me in the systems panel that I had 12 GB memory installed but could only use 8 GB of them. So I started to test my RAM. I have three memory sticks and I tested them one after another. I installed just one of them, started Windows, all was fine. Installed one of the other sticks, test again, all fine and so on. All three sticks were working fine. Then I put them all three back into my rig and no more BSOD. Some kind of connection problem, dust or whatever. This problem may come back any time. But in the next two months I want to get me a new rig.
