This thread needs to be stickied. Heaps of really helpfull information collecetd.
Thank you for the kind words and the like, I really appreciate the support!
Thanks for this write up! A couple questions for the knowledgeable people in this thread:
What is the actual different between fade touched and ultra textures? My card has 3GB of VRAM. Should I use Ultra?? Does that mean more or less texture pop in?
HBAO vs HBAO Full - I haven't been able to discern a difference. I know there has to be some though.
Water Quality: High vs Ultra - Also haven't been able to tell a difference here.
I'm using mantle on an older system and I get some stuttering from time to time when things are loading. I imagine this has more to do with my really old CPU than graphic settings but am open to suggestions. I average around 35-40
My specs:
AMD HD 7970 3GB
intel Q6600 (super old CPU)
8GB DDR3 ram
Andrew Burnes, an Nvidia employee who writes their performance tweaking guides, explained the difference between "Ultra" and "Fade Touched" as follows:
"It's simply a larger texture cache for GPUs with more VRAM using Ultra textures. Should mean less frequent loading of textures into memory, which may result in smoother gameplay and quicker mid-level streaming loads."

This German technical article about DA:I explains the performance impact of every setting in detail, complete with visual comparisons: http://www.gamestar....72,3080155.html. Just open the link in Google Chrome for instant translation to English!
According to the article, the visual difference between "HBAO" and "HBAO Full" is virtually non-existent, but the performance improvement is tangible. On the other hand, the article mentions that the Water Quality setting did not change the image quality, nor the game's performance by any noticeable degree.
In your case, Mantle should definitely help in boosting your overall framerate compared to DirectX, although your mileage may vary according to other AMD users I've seen posting here and on NeoGaf.
I hate most of those effects. Motion blur, film grain, and when the backround gets fuzzy - having a derp moment and the name of it is on the tip of my ongue.
Depth of field perhaps?
If you hate all of these effects, you might consider also pasting the line
PostProcess.FilmicEffectsEnable 0
into your "user.cfg" file and see if it changes anything? Please report back with your results should you try it, I am really curious!
