Maybe I should've calrified a bit... I'm using the vsync and triple buffering force off commands to improve latency, and nvidia control panel to fix the screen tearing, which works. I just wanted to know if there's a difference between disabling vsync in game and forcing it off via command.

Well in that case, the game settings should work just fine.

I don't understand why I need to set the value in -GameTime.MaxSimFps X -GameTime.ForceSimRate X+ to 59.99 and not 60?
in this Reddit thread https://www.reddit.c...cene_framerate/ setting it to 60 seems to be working fine for everyone, so what's the difference?

You don't? 60 is fine... Also, you know that that fix is for cutscenes only, right? It won't do anything for normal gameplay, running around etc.

Where you are getting all this info?

"X is your desired overall framerate cap, such as 30, 60, etc. and is actually a floating number. Therefore, should you wish to cap your framerate to your monitor's refresh rate, then the X value would be best set to 0.01 frames less than your monitor's actual refresh rate".

Is that only meant for the -GameTime.MaxVariableFps X command? I just want to uncap the cutscene fps.

You can just use 60 if your monitor is at 60hz. That is completely fine. The reason people want to uncap it from 30 is because some notice a stutter or choppiness when the cutscenes are at 30fps. Honestly, unless you are a machine, I highly doubt your eyes and brain will notice any appreciable difference in .01 fps.

Also, monitors tend to not actually be the exact amount. For example, if I look in the game Options > Display > Resolution, mine shows 59.89hz, which is the actual refresh rate that my monitor has, even though it is 60hz. The next higher, 75hz, is listed at 74.98hz.

If I look in the ProfileOptions_profile for DAI, the FullscreenRefreshRate is 59.887001, so the UI is even rounding for that.

So just use 60.

Dearest PC gaming friends,

Allow me to simply wish you a 2016 filled with good health, peace, happiness and lots and lots of free time to dedicate to our favourite hobby! :P

This new year looks to offer a multitude of promising PC titles, including Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (15th January), Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak (20th January), Far Cry Primal (1st March), Dark Souls III (12th April) and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (23rd August), so let's hope that they will deliver both qualitatively, as well as technically! ;)

Until then, have a blast playing a tweaked and hopefully optimally-performing Dragon Age: Inquisition! :D

It has come to my attention that the GeForce 364.47 WHQL drivers are causing a host of very serious software and hardware performance issues on many machines. I was genuinely surprised upon reading that news story, however, because neither the previous GeForce 364.47 WHQL drivers, nor the new 364.51 Beta drivers have given me any problems whatsoever. Why have I not been affected at all when so many players literally lost their PCs because of the 364.47 WHQL drivers?

That is because I followed my own advice from the OP and always use Display Driver Uninstaller in Windows Safe Mode to remove any trace of my previous GPU drivers from my system before installing a newer GPU driver version. Even after doing that, I never choose the "Express" install option, but rather the "Custom" one, with both 3D Vision Driver and 3D Vision Controller Driver options unticked and the "Perform a clean installation" option ticked!

Sure, doing a clean GPU driver install does mean that you will lose all of your current GPU Control Panel tweaks, but if you always follow the above advice when upgrading your GPU drivers you will be avoiding a myriad of possible performance issues, not to mention the serious software and even hardware failures that have been plaguing the players who simply chose the "Express" install option for the 364.47 WHQL drivers! wink.png

@Verrenus After you uninstall GPU drivers using DDU in safe mode, do you download and/or install the new drivers in safe mode as well? Or do you restart windows normally first before downloading and/or installing new GPU drivers? And if you don't mind me asking, are you using Windows 10?

Well, I know this wasn't addressed to me, but it shouldn't really matter when you download the new drivers if it's just an .exe sitting in a download folder somewhere. For the sake of convenience, you could download the new drivers before you start the whole process just so it's there and ready to go. I do it this way myself.

Well, I know this wasn't addressed to me, but it shouldn't really matter when you download the new drivers if it's just an .exe sitting in a download folder somewhere. For the sake of convenience, you could download the new drivers before you start the whole process just so it's there and ready to go. I do it this way myself.

Before I do anything with my current GPU driver installation, I always have the newest drivers downloaded in advance, just like you, nightscrawl! :P

That way, I can just run the latest version of DDU, have it reboot my machine into Windows Safe Mode automatically, then select to remove the NVIDIA drivers (since I'm running one of their cards) and click the "Clean and restart (Highly Recommended)" option.

DDU will then remove any traces of my current GPU drivers and when that's done, it will also automatically reboot my machine into normal Windows mode. Then I just have to run the "Custom" installation for the newest GPU drivers that I had downloaded in advance, with both the 3D Vision Driver and 3D Vision Controller Driver options unticked (since I never use my monitor to view 3D content) and the "Perform a clean installation" option ticked!

Do note that after installing the newest GPU drivers, you need to go back into DDU again (just in normal Windows Mode this time) and click the "Set Windows Automatic Driver installation to default" button to restore Windows' automatic plug-and-play driver installation to normal. DDU normally disables this functionality before uninstalling your current GPU drivers so that, upon rebooting into normal Windows mode, the OS won't pull a fast one on you and automatically install whatever GPU drivers it deems best before you had any chance of clean installing the drivers that you yourself had downloaded! ;)

And, yes, I am running Windows 10 and I've never had any problems whatsoever from running DDU every single time I want to upgrade to a newer GPU driver version! :D

How about fixes for teleporting characters and the animation bug where characters just freeze?

I am afraid that I have not played the game in well over a year and I do not remember encountering that bug myself.

To me this unfortunately sounds like something engine-related that cannot be fixed through a simple tweak. However, if you do manage to find a fix for this particular problem, please share it with the rest of us and I will update the OP with the information straight away! ;)

I also recently purchased a new Monitor with 1080p and do not have the same problem.  Have you changed your in game display settings?  Also, check your monitor settings.  I changed the monitor settings right out of the box and everything seems to work fine.

the game graphical settings are everything ultra, no aa nor msaa nor postporcessing, at 1080p aa is unnecessary,

what monitor settings are you talking about? other games don't have this issue

thanks for the answer

edit

solved through nvida control panel

I purchased a  ASUS MG279Q Black 27" 4ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS .  The monitor itself has different settings such as driving games, cinematic, etc.  When I turned on my computer with this monitor there was a lot of pixelation on my desktop.  I went to monitor settings and adjusted those and everything looked crisp and clean.  I also have an MSI R9 390X GAMING 8G Graphics Card.  So I went into that dashboard and made sure the monitor was set-up properly there.  By the way, Free Sync rocks!

So, I can't seem to find a banter bug - specific thread...

Do we still have a banter-bug? I ask because everything is up to date, all DLC installed. I believe these will be the final patches released, but my new play-through is decidedly quiet. Definitely far less banter going on than there was for me with the game was first released, even when combining companions that are known to banter a lot.

Well, I have tried most all of these I could. What I understood anyway as having to go through all this to play one game is not something I am used too. Normally companies tend to make games stable eenough to play as is. Anyway i still lag at times but I always freeze right before meeting solas and varric for the first time. Frankly ive spent 14 days trying to get this game to just run. And i even went so far as to upgrade my entire computer heh. Not sure what else to do. But thank you for this guide. I appreciate the effort put into it truly :)

It wasn't until I read this thread that I knew there was supposed to be banter and music in the game.  I have never had either.  I have had some banter, but after I watched some videos of other peoples play through, I see just what it is supposed to be like.  This is just the worst experience I have ever had with any game and I have been playing since game were a thing on computers.  It wasn't until I upgraded from windows 7 to 10 that I was able to play the game for more than 30 minutes without it crashing.

This is absolutely the worst of the series for me, just not the technical problems, and most likely the last.

Thank you very much for your kind words of appreciation, my friend! :P

While I have not played, nor even had DA:I installed on my PC for more than a year now, I still read every new reply and always update the links in the OP whenever new GPU drivers are released. At least in that way, I want to let everyone know that the guide is still receiving my constant attention! ;)

I am very sorry to hear that you encountered so many issues trying to play DA:I properly and I really hope that some of the other kind readers of our humble thread will be able to help you out a lot better than I currently can. Until then, I can only wish you the best of luck in figuring out exactly why your game is performing this poorly!  :?

I am very sorry to hear that you are having such a bad time with the game and I wholeheartedly agree that DA:I is indeed extremely fussy to get to run properly on any machine, regardless of its hardware configuration. I was hoping the OP could help everyone sort such issues quicker and easier, but after finishing the main campaign more than a year ago I honestly don't know what the state of the game is anymore. :(

If you have any feedback at all on the OP (e.g. if any of the tweaks have become obsolete in the meantime, etc.), then please let me know and I will update it right away! Until then, I wish you all the best in trying to get the game to run properly on your end! ;)

Thanks for this, I very recently upgraded my PC to a proper gaming rig and this has come in really useful for some additional tweakage to smooth things out, if not completely, then certainly more so than before.

Awesome stuff!! :D

Dearest fellow PC Inquisitors,

In a move that I am still failing to understand, BioWare has announced that the Dragon Age forums will close once and for all on 26th August:unsure:

This means that I will be forced to move my guide to another website sometime soon, which is definitely not for the better of everyone still playing Dragon Age: Inquisition on PC, nor something I would have ever wanted to do. Alas, my hands are tied on this one and I would simply hate it if all of you lovely people lost access to the information we've spent so much time and effort collating in the OP over the years. :(

Once I will find a suitable new location for my guide, I will post the link here so that everyone can bookmark it and keep following it if you still want to. Thank you so much once again for all of the kind support you have shown me over the years, I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!  <3
