Nice setup you got there! :P

On that beast I wouldn't settle for anything less than max everything apart from MSAA off for 1080p, but for 2880p I suggest trying to play the game on the "High" preset first and then tweak each setting up and down individually. I would also recommend capping your framerate to 30 FPS for starters, by pasting the following into your "Game Properties" window in Origin:

-GameTime.MaxSimFps 30 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 30+ -GameTime.MaxVariableFps 30

Good luck and please post back with your results!  ;)

Thanks, I appreciate your help on this. I have capped the FPS and set graphics settings to high and have no issues other than one thing. It seems that there is some weird flickering on certain patches of the ground and terrain. I have tried lowering the terrain settings but that is not helping at all. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks.

Edit: It does not do this for the native 1440p resolution, only for the dynamic super resolution or 2880p. I know my monitor is capable of doing 2880p. Perhaps I should try setting the refresh rate to 30Hz?

Well, I reinstalled the game, the nvidia driver and all and it remains the same, there's even a drop of fps in cutscene

I'll set the graphics to High and see what it does

The terrain shimmering is an SLI artifact. Maybe try the new GeForce Hotfix driver 344.80, since it apparently includes a fix for this exact issue?

Setting the graphics down to "High" should definitely result in a FPS boost!

I can verify this doesn't fix it. Tried with SLI using .80 and the textures still flicker.

However, if you set Vsync to On using Nvidia inspector and apply, it will reduce the frequency that you see it by quite a bit.

Hi

I have been experiencing a slow down in my game after playing for a few mins. I have played more than 129 hrs on DAI up till now and it has been running relatively smoothly, however since last night i have been experiencing a slow down in the game when moving around or in combat which i previously have not experienced. I have updated my drivers with a clean install and am running the game according to the nvidia experience optimized settings.  Checking cpu performance during the slowdown the cpu is at at around 60-64% utilized and ram about 55% utilized.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling DAI but the problem still persists and my FPS when this occurs drops to between 10-15 FPS

Anyone know or experienced this issue and know hot to solve it?

regards

What if you load an old save?  Same thing?

I'm currently experimenting with the following settings and it seems to help reduce the stutter somewhat!

My "user.cfg" contents:

PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1
WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0
WorldRender.TransparencyShadowmapsEnable 0
WorldRender.LightTileCsPathEnable 0
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0
RenderDevice.VSyncEnable 0
RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit 2

My "Game Properties" contents (for a 60 FPS cap):

-GameTime.MaxSimFps 59.98 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 59.98+ -GameTime.MaxVariableFps 59.98

It's worth giving these a shot!  :P

Thanks guys, problem solved.

Here's what I did:

  • I set the monitor refresh rate to 30Hz
  • I did the Geforce Hotfix driver 3.44.80
  • In addition to these two things I also got a new shiny high quality HDMI cable capable of UHD above 1080p resolution.

Not sure which one of these or multiple did the trick, but I will try to narrow it down to the least common denominator and share what exactly was the fix.

Glad to hear it! Do come back and share the fix whenever you have the time, I'm sure a lot of people would like to hear about it!  :D

I am back and with very good news. It seems the Geforce Hotfix driver was the fix I needed for my particular monitor. I went beck to my original DVI-D connector and used that for the dynamic super resolution of 5120x2880 @60Hz and had no flickering at all whatsoever. This driver fix is for particular models of monitors and apparently mine just so happens to be included in that group. I have a QNIX QX320QHD Super Ultra 32" 2560x1440 QHD AH-VA Panel 32 inch LED Monitor just to clarify.

Well none of the solutions are working for me and it makes me angry because I've the feeling that the framerate is droping more and more (i'm around 35-40 fps in Haven now with no stutter but the cutscene seems to be slower <_<

I have a question about the"user.cfg", where exactly do I put it ? :P (the main folder of the game or one specific ?)

Yes, I'm still trying to figure out which settings actually do bring something useful and which of them are just snake oil...

You put the "user.cfg" file in the main Dragon Age: Inquisition install folder, containing the game's exe. For me, the full address would be: "C:\Games\Origin\Dragon Age Inquisition\user.cfg"  ;)

I can't remember the settings off the top of my head, but the max/minprocessor command in the user.cfg shows all cores being used at 90% when set to 8 threads, 0 free (I have an i7-3770k with hyperthreading, so 8 threads).
Without the command only 4 threads exist, according to the in game performance log (perfoverlay)

Speaking of which, does anyone have there CPU OC speed show up in perfoverlay? Or just stock speed? Mine only shows stock.

Just FYI, I'm only getting about 21-25 FPS in game @2880p on High Graphics preset. I might have to do some work with the AA and possibly bump some other settings.

UniformGreyColor, are you able to maintain a locked 30 or 60fps at any settings? Like at 1080p, your machine should crush this game and easily be able to maintain a locked 30, if mine can do 20-30fps on ultra.

I'm gaming at the highest resolution possible for anywhere from 50-20fps on Graphics settings set to High preset. I did get a couple of crashes though. All clocks (CPU and GPUs) are stock. I'm on a 32" monitor. Maybe I'll try to play at 1080p for a bit to see what kind of frames I'm getting.

I currently set the graphics to medium with some options in high or ultra (like the mesh texture) and it's back to 50-60 fps

Despite the game being a really good experience in term of lore and gameplay, I find these graphic settings really annoying

Regarding 344.80 driver - it's still in beta, right? Does it actually do some sort of miracles, or should I stick to the released WHQL 344.75 instead?

I think I've achieved some decent results currently , I'd hate to ruin it with a raw driver.

I also experience rare and random shimmering  (terrain mostly, sometimes other surfaces too), but that does not seem that important compared to the smooth 40-50 fps with high textures and meshes. Much better than I could ever hoped to achieve for my 2yrs old gaming laptop.

Has anyone tried to change the SLI rendering mode in the Nvidia panel\ 3d settings, by the way? I just remembered that 'Alternate Frame Rendering' worked fine for me in Bioshock 2 (which had flickered awfully a lot), might work with DAI as well. I'll check this out tonight.

Hard to say which of my tweaking was most helpful, but I can (once again) confirm, that 'borderless window' cuts the FPS drastically vs .  'fulscreen'.

Thank you for the kind words, I'm really glad you find this thread helpful! Maybe with enough likes the OP can be stickied, but I'm pretty sure the BioWare mods will never support our unofficial tweaks and fixes.  ;)

They behave very erratically when it comes to their impact on performance. Not only that, but stuttering is also present on the very lowest settings, so something else is very wrong here.

I haven't seen any noticeable improvement on my end (MSI GTX 780 here), so I guess it's not really necessary to upgrade to the beta driver. Just wait for the next WHQL driver from Nvidia and that patch that BioWare's QA are testing right now. It feels really shady that they're not giving us any patch notes though...

Check the patch notes of the 344.80 drivers. If you are not experiencing any of the issues, it's highly unlikely the driver will do anything for you. It's just a hotfix for those particular issues afterall.

I've tried the AFR rendering modes and they give negative performance scaling, so I wouldn't really recommend using them. :P

Could someone perhaps test how their framerate behaves in demanding areas (Redcliffe is a good bet) when moving the mouse? For me, not only using the mouse to turn the camera, but simply moving it on the screen is causing noticeable framerate drops in CPU intensive scenes. I'm curious if this is common behavior or something related to my setup.

After all of my testing in multiple areas, the only way to reduce the stutter was to use no user.cfg commands and pre-rendered frames set to 1 in nvidia inspector and using in game vsync. Sure cutscenes are still at 30fps but the game hitching like it was in mid battle was infuriating on harder difficulties.
