As in the title, after several days, I still haven't seen a single coin from the chantry garden upgrade. From the description I do believe that your are supposed to collect some gold every once in a while. Now all it did is add a few statues and Chantry priests to the garden. I'm pretty certain this has to be a bug.

Doubt it's a bug. The whole skyhold upgrade thing is just a massive afterthought. They make no sense, and the smallest cosmetic difference.

I love the descriptions of the tower. "A Mage tower to rival any cicrcle tower in all of Thedas!" I lol'd so hard when I saw the actual "tower".

Oh, and the "Training Ground". Might as well replace the fighters for sheep. But yeah - all upgrades are cosmetic only. Sadly it seems that the description of the courtyard upgrades were missed out when they went from "Fully customisable" Skyhold to "meh..".

"Fully customisable Skyhold coming soon as DLC" ... wouldn't be surprised to see something like that as an announcement.

The upgrades for Skyhold are definitely lacking and I'd love for them to have actual effects rather than being purely cosmetic (income, armor/weapon schematics, recipes, better results from certain operations would all have been interesting options).

The garden upgrade appears to be the only functional one: one option gives you 4 extra plant spots, the description of the other one heavily implies it gives you some gold from tithes every now and then. The statue next to the plants seems like a place to pick up money: it has some kind of bowl where people could drop there donations. So I seriously doubt if this is working as intended.

Having said that, I can only agree with people stating that the Skyhold upgrades are largely underwhelming. The only ones that really seems to do something are the auto-updates you get after completing some of the main quests: some scaffolding gets taken away, people start occupying the main hall etc.

The courtyard updates are both incredibly minor. A small sparring ring or an infirmary that took me ages to find after I got it - it's just a tiny building with a handful of non-interactable NPCs. The mage tower had a few NPCs that did nothing as well. Many rooms/towers remain empty throughout the game and other rooms and walls remain in a state of disrepair. At the very least they should make all the upgrades available in one game: the courtyard upgrades are in different spots and there are enough empty towers for both the upgrades as well.

I hope there are plans for visual Skyhold upgrades in some upcoming expansion or dlc...

I have to say I completely agree with you. There was major hype about customizing Skyhold and then you get 3 upgrades where only one has any benefit to you at all. The least they could have done is added a Clean Up and Repair option so that Cullen and Iron Bull do not get snowed and rained on because there are huge gaping holes in the ceilings of their rooms.

You personally get this huge bedroom with all of the decor of a King/Queen that is really worthless in anyway to your game other than eye candy but the entire Inquisition cannot clean up the rubble and trash in our companions rooms or the majority of the keep. It is not even remotely believable that ppl would not repair and clean the castle that ppl from around the world come to see. I do not know one Ambassador or Representative that would happily stay in the mountains surrounded by snow and ice in a room with no roof or piles of trash laying around.

There is just a lot of ridiculously half-a$$ed components to this game that is more than irritating.  And do not even get me started on the ape/hunchback stature and walk of the Inquisitor. You are the leader of an organization that meets with dignitaries and rulers where appearance and presence means everything but you cannot even stand straight or walk with a straight posture like everyone else in the game. It is the one thing that I cannot ignore and it ruins most cut scenes because it is so awful.

All those upgrades suck. They don't give you anything at all. If you pick a mage tower you should get at least some schematics or whatever...

I would've thought picking one of the towers might at least influence the chances of some characters becoming Divine or something. I'm hoping the lack of a 'finished' look means we'll get some in future installments, be they DLC, expansion, sequel...whatever.

Another point - if they did include the 'finished' look (no rubble, clean rooms, etc.) in DLC, I would hope that it would be as an extra touch to otherwise unrelated story DLC. I'd be a little eh if they charged money for a DLC just for cleaning house (though if it was a cheap $5 one that included a CC editor, a storage chest, and a few other ease-of-life features....than I might give it a little more consideration).

We shall see.

I won't buy it because it doesn't make a difference if your Skyhold looks like a pile of rubble or like a 5 star spa.. It doesn't matter unless they make up something like official visits or I dunno.... anything that would make that keep worth upgrading.

From what I've been able to tell so far, the Chantry upgrade to the garden actually unlocks some War Table missions that can give gold.  Problem is, you do them once and their done, while the actual Garden upgrade that gives you more pots continues to be infinitely reusable.

So it's not broken or a bug, but really, really flippin' minor, almost to the point of being cosmetic... somehow.

Yeah, the Chantry Garden description does suggest money from tithes, and considering that the other garden both unlocks a bard's song and 4 extra plant spots, it seems something is missing here.

Also, side note: I wish the Stained Glass upgrades changed the stained glass all over the castle, not just our "loading screened" bedroom.

I think a LOT more needs to be said about the really odd wireframes and body animations. Clearly motion capture was used for some cutscenes, but certainly not as the basis for that default Neanderthal I'm-having-stomach-cramps posture and gait. I just don't get it. Body motion is too well understood these days (including male/female variations) for us to end up with this kind of weirdness.

Upgrading amaranth keep had a greater story impact and that was an expansion pack.
