1 Male Human Noble is number one by far he has all the advantages in terms of narrative Loghain,Howe,Anora,Morrigan all of them are more close to his origin than anyone else in DAO,also HoF title is better suited since he is from Ferelden unlike non Humans (aside fom mage elf)

2 Dwarf noble and his hate on Bhelen.

Well to me it would either be All the Elf origins and Human Noble (so i can get all the ladies including Anora wit Polygamey) :D

-Dalish Elf - feel the freedom and pride

-City Elf - feel the urge of killing sissy white dick sucking nobles

-Human Noble (king or not be king; is that a question? :D)

I really like the mage origin. It's always been my go-to origin/class when I start a new Origin game, probably because it was my very first playthrough forever ago and I feel like it's canon for me. Besides, I can be an Arcane Warrior as a mage! Best final blows EVER!

hellsyes.jpg

I've also tried and liked city elf, which is good, and Human noble/rogue, just so my character could rule Ferelden with Alistair.

Both Dwarf origins are great, and huge, too, but I couldn't follow through with them... probably because by then I'd had quite enough of playing DA origins, lol.

Dalish elf is good, but short. You can have some interesting conversations with Zevran, though.

yep i agree the Dalish Origin was too short, I felt the anger and impoverished situation of being a city elf, I haven't tried mage or dwarfs or human nobles yet. . im still stuck with my first playthrough with my city elf :D perfecting it with a LOT of mods for more immersion, for example i made greagoir much older so that it can relatable that he and irving are the same aged rivals, hahaha

So which is my favorite class-origin combo? Again, hard choice. The female city elf that kills an entire Arl's guard and him in a river of bloody vengeance, who then comes back later the shining hero to save her family and gets that great moment of walking through the alienage with missives all over stating armed elves will die upon their weapons all while being VERY WELL armed as a nice middle finger to those messages? Or the casteless with no skill who beats the best of the best, and goes from the lowest of the low to a blighted paragon? Or the dwarven noble, who is about the most perfect of a grey warden recruit that has ever walked Thedas, who acts just as their paragon ancestor did by cutting through their dumb traditions and selfishness of their peopleto unite the dwarves against the darkspawn? Or the Cousland who gets a great revenge story and eventually marries the king or queen and becomes leader of the nation? Difficult picks, and that's not counting the awful Dalish one or the so-so mage one.

Okay, I've narrowed it to the 2 dwarves. Though the city elves gets a runner-up award, something about that one has made me always very fond of it. But which of the 2 dwarves? Argh, I can't decide! They're both just so damned good. Although the ACTUAL origins have a clear victor: Dwarven noble gets the best origin, the story of intrigue and betrayal and politics and kinslaying and everything has all the hallmarks of a great story, and the game has barely begun. But best origin doesn't necessarily mean best overall, and the casteless one is a pretty gripping origin tale itself. Okay... Still... Probably... Dwarven noble? I... Think that's my choice. But ask me again in an hour and my mind might be changed. I like both way too much to easily pick one. I will say that class partly goes to what is fitting and partly what I'm in the mood for. Human noble and dwarven noble both fit warrior, city elf and casteless both fit rogue, and Dalish can go either way. So I try to stick to that, picking my origin based on which seems to fit.

On final note, my dwarf nobles actually side with Bhelen. He thought my dwarf was a threat, but I never wanted to be king or queen. Not ever. I wanted to be a general of the armies, fighting the darkspawn and taking back our underground roads. And Trian was a dick. If Bhelen had asked for help, she would have supported him for king. In the end, she feels her family is still better of being king over a Harrowmont. Besides, he's pro-casteless and also all for aggressively taking back the deeproads from the spawn, so our ideals match. I like to surprise him though, support Harrowmont all the way and then suddenly say the paragon chose Bhelen. His reaction is... Absolutely priceless. Yes he got father killed too in a roundabout way, but it's clear that he truly is the better ruler. And in the end, her exile let her do what she always wanted: fight and kill darkspawn and do her part to kick them out of their ancient roads. Besides, it was nice of him to let her escape from that political hell-hole even if it was accidental.

I beat the game as a "paragon" human noble warrior and made myself king. I actually resented being "forced" to be a Grey Warden  during this play through and role played accordingly. My all time favorite Origin story is the Male City Elf (I liked rouge). This was probably the grittiest start to an RPG I've played in a long time.

Female city elf and female human noble shines really. Male noble should be nice too but well i prefer Alistair to Anora so to speak.

Also dwarf commoner is a nice story about rising to the top from bottom.

Dwarf noble is also a nice start but limits the king choice in Orzammar imo.

Mage and Dalish ones were meh.

I think Oscar goes to anti-human female city elf.

Dwarf noble imho.  Nice -almost Borgia-like-  Origin story, you get to have children as a male and you get a best buddy that will give you a nice gameplay boost later on  and you're really personnaly involved in the Orzammar storyline. It's also the longest Origin story.

Very satisfying.

I would agree that this origin story is by far the most satisfying, but the Human Noble is the only one that offers a personal stake when dealing with Arl Howe. So it's a toss up for me.

City elf or dwarf commoner, I love my underdogs

Those are also the origins, I noticed...with relatively good family lives

- The human mage origin because it's cool to be related to Hawke through the Amell family. Also has great synergy with a Morrigan romance.

- The dwarf noble origin is fun, you can get a lot of money selling to Gorim in Denerim and you can partake in two threeways (in the origin and with Isabella + Leliana). What's great about the Noble Dwarf Origin is  also that you can get a son without doing the Dark Ritual with Morrigan, so it added an interesting dimension to my dwarf choosing to have the Archdemon killed instead (with Loghain of course).

Mix of human mage and human noble rogue. I used the pc commands to make my noble a mage a few times - home visiting from the circle. Funny thing is that is that gets used in DAI. Had to laugh at that one.

Really enjoyed my Dwarf Commoner DW warrior girl, though if I play her again she'll be a rogue (and possibly a bit less of a goody two-shoes, though I liked the whole "worked for the Carta but hated every minute and tried to live up to the paragons once sh e went topside" thing.)

City Elf Rogue is great, although I haven't yet completed a playthrough with one - got nearly to the Landsmeet with a MCER straight after my DC playthrough, then got distracted by another game and when I came back to DAO I felt like playing a girl, played about 20 hours with a FCER, but didn't like some of the choices she'd made and wanted to try a couple of mods that I wasn't sure could be added mid-playthrough, so I started again.

Current playthrough is an elf mage woman, I'm really enjoying it, returning to the Circle Tower was rather heartbreaking, esp as my Inquisitor is romancing Cullen. Poor guy. This origin seems to have more origin-specific dialogue than I remember my dwarf girl having, though she was a year or so ago, so I could be wrong. Glad I've got a respec mod, though, tried out Arcane Warrior and hated it, maybe I misunderstood the various guides I read but I sort of expected not to die several times more frequently than I had been dying in robes... Back in the Vestments of the Seer, thank goodness, with rock armour that gives me a slightly better AR than Alistair has in his fancy Juggernaut Plate.

I think my next game I'll be trying FCER again, or possible MHN (dunno about class, probably rogue) to romance Zev and, well, if one must have a marriage of convenience, one can do worse than the queen, hmm?

Dalish or City Elf are my favs. Especially role playing a Dalish. I like to play up the stranger in a strange land sort of motifs. I like Casteless Dwarf too.

Rogue is my favorite class. Across the board. I've only played Warrior and Mage just to say I can. Every other PT has and will be on a rogue.

I really like the Dalish elf story.  Though it may just be that I like my Dalish elf story, so to speak.  It's hard to tell sometimes.  But I like how it connects most directly to the Darkspawn and the Blight.  All the other origins, you basically become a Warden because Duncan says so, but a Dalish must become a Warden to survive.  Then there's the small encounter in the late game with Darkspawn attacking the camp, which gets that extra bit of connection to make the mission against the Blight a personal one.  And that makes it doubly interesting, because, again, unlike all the other Origins, a Dalish has no personal stake in anything besides the Blight.  Everyone else returns to their origin as part of the main game's story, but a Dalish never goes back; even the Dalish you meet are part of a completely different clan.

Ultimately, this all makes a Dalish the best choice for a character who is thoroughly dedicated to the Wardens' mission, in my opinion.  If you're not into the concept of a character who's down for some righteous Warden-ing, though, it might not fit as well.  There is one last return to the "personal" side of the story by the use of the Eluvians as bookends, assuming you play all the way through to Witch Hunt, though, since the story begins with losing your closest friend to one, and then confronting a new friend (possibly even a lover) who is about to use one as well.  It just fits the story so damn well for me.

As for class, I prefer Rogue.  That's just sort of on the whole for this game, though.  I just find Rogue is a better experience from a gameplay perspective, to the other classes.

I'm just going to say this: Playing as a Drow from the City Elf origin sent me in fits of giggles. See my avvy for a picture of her. I ended up being pretty invested into her story.

Speaking of the City Elf, I think that was such an intense origin. At first I had modded my game so that I have millions of tintses, tintses for me. I fooled around with the new color options, geeked out over making a drow for kicks and giggles, then was sucked into everything that happened in the Alienage. I was ready to slaughter everyone in that place. I wanted her and my Cousland to team up and have each other's backs.

Although the Elf mage is my primary canon, I'd have to give the best origin to either Dwarf Noble or Commoner, with Noble most likely coming out on top. Andy already said all my thoughts so I won't repeat, but I will say that I also sided with Bhelen. Not because of the family over politics thing, but mainly because he's the best ruler Orzammar could ask for. He moves forward, and although he hated the little bastard, my noble still backed him (I can't remember if I played around with Harrowmont to ****** off Bhelen though). Bhelen deserved my dagger through his heart, but then Orzammar would backtrack. I always appreciated the way that scenario worked; basically screw Orzammar for some much needed revenge, or painfully set aside the anger for your people to move forward. Great origin.

I love my Amell. She was my first Origins choice and the first one I beat the game with. As for story-wise, I would say a Human Noble and City Elf are affected the most by the storyline, but I never felt as involved with them as I did with my Amell. She was a kind soul, who gave everyone a chance and made the effort to go all the way for someone in need. I felt compelled to be distant as a CE and as a HN I felt like her focus was strictly on avenging her family, but Amell could be most open-minded and make choices I would make if I was in her position.

I chose Amell also because of DA2 and wanted an imported game that made Hawke actually related to the HOF.

I did like the dwarves but hated the strange camera angles and romances were awful. Though I played humans mostly, City elf and Noble Dwarf were very good I thought. I felt they captured the essence of behind the scenes before you meet those races. That to me made a good race/origin. Mages were good but no capturing of elf vs human origin which I suppose makes sense. So mage is a bit of its own without a race essence however it only gave you a little hint of what it might have been like in the circle. I feel like there could have been a bit more like if you talked to people there would be some interesting views about life in the circle more than what they did which was just the essence of an upgraded prison where you aren't overtly abused or mistreated but it's still a prison of sorts.

I still choose Human Mage first then Human noble.

As much as I still favor CE and HN, Dalish is up there with me too. I'm surprised that it (apparently) turned out to be fairly unpopular. I can see why Bioware went with it as a default. I think it's the one origin with a real "hero's path" type of story, similar to the Inquisitor/Anchor and Shepard/Prothean Beacon. It's also the most clear cut reason why you might survive the joining...despite you protesting the matter or not being a particular awesome hunter or what have you. You can roleplay this as more disgruntled and humble than the other origins.

The reason why the Dalish origin isn't very popular is because it's the one origin where you have nothing to feel guilty about (unless you murder those idiots at the start), and nobody to seek revenge on.  Basically there's no subplot.
