So which is my favorite class-origin combo? Again, hard choice. The female city elf that kills an entire Arl's guard and him in a river of bloody vengeance, who then comes back later the shining hero to save her family and gets that great moment of walking through the alienage with missives all over stating armed elves will die upon their weapons all while being VERY WELL armed as a nice middle finger to those messages? Or the casteless with no skill who beats the best of the best, and goes from the lowest of the low to a blighted paragon? Or the dwarven noble, who is about the most perfect of a grey warden recruit that has ever walked Thedas, who acts just as their paragon ancestor did by cutting through their dumb traditions and selfishness of their peopleto unite the dwarves against the darkspawn? Or the Cousland who gets a great revenge story and eventually marries the king or queen and becomes leader of the nation? Difficult picks, and that's not counting the awful Dalish one or the so-so mage one.
Okay, I've narrowed it to the 2 dwarves. Though the city elves gets a runner-up award, something about that one has made me always very fond of it. But which of the 2 dwarves? Argh, I can't decide! They're both just so damned good. Although the ACTUAL origins have a clear victor: Dwarven noble gets the best origin, the story of intrigue and betrayal and politics and kinslaying and everything has all the hallmarks of a great story, and the game has barely begun. But best origin doesn't necessarily mean best overall, and the casteless one is a pretty gripping origin tale itself. Okay... Still... Probably... Dwarven noble? I... Think that's my choice. But ask me again in an hour and my mind might be changed. I like both way too much to easily pick one. I will say that class partly goes to what is fitting and partly what I'm in the mood for. Human noble and dwarven noble both fit warrior, city elf and casteless both fit rogue, and Dalish can go either way. So I try to stick to that, picking my origin based on which seems to fit.
On final note, my dwarf nobles actually side with Bhelen. He thought my dwarf was a threat, but I never wanted to be king or queen. Not ever. I wanted to be a general of the armies, fighting the darkspawn and taking back our underground roads. And Trian was a dick. If Bhelen had asked for help, she would have supported him for king. In the end, she feels her family is still better of being king over a Harrowmont. Besides, he's pro-casteless and also all for aggressively taking back the deeproads from the spawn, so our ideals match. I like to surprise him though, support Harrowmont all the way and then suddenly say the paragon chose Bhelen. His reaction is... Absolutely priceless. Yes he got father killed too in a roundabout way, but it's clear that he truly is the better ruler. And in the end, her exile let her do what she always wanted: fight and kill darkspawn and do her part to kick them out of their ancient roads. Besides, it was nice of him to let her escape from that political hell-hole even if it was accidental.
