All Kreminals welcome here! :)

Thread Etiquette/Rules & Such

  • Be nice to one another!
  • Please don't misgender Krem or anyone else. The game clearly states that he's male, and we're keeping to that here. If you have a problem with that, please take it elsewhere.
  • Remember that not everyone has finished Dragon Age: Inquisition yet, and some here may have only just gotten it. If you plan on posting any spoilers, please keep them hidden!
  • If you have any fanart/fanfiction you'd like to share, don't be shy - let us see it! (Even better, PM me and I'll add a link to it on this post)
  • If you have any suggestions for this thread (or if I've done something stupid - I'm still learning how to use these forums, so it's bound to happen) let me know!
  • Um... stand on chairs?

Who is Krem?

If you've just stumbled across this thread, you may be asking yourself "Who is this Krem dude? I haven't seen him in any of my parties." Well, that's because he's an NPC, and a particularly cool one at that. Cremisius "Krem" Aclassi is that rather dashing mercenary at the top of the page (minus the hat; I honestly don't know if they even wear trilbies in Thedas), best known as the second-in-command of the Bull's Chargers. He's the guy who gives you the mission to recruit The Iron Bull near the beginning of the game, and afterwards he can be found giving out war table missions and anecdotes. He also happens to be possibly the first positive and well-written trans character in a major game (or at least one of the first) which only adds to his general coolness.

(He still hasn't figured out how to use chairs properly just yet, but we forgive him for that.)

An interesting Bioware blog post about Krem!

We're growing a pretty small (but AWESOME) following for Krem on Twitter. If you use it, you should totally look me up there. You'll be... amused. We've dubbed ourselves the #SmoothKreminals. Feel free to steal that name for the post header, if you wish.

Anyway, I was coming on here today to start a thread so.. hey. :D

She's dead. It was a demand of the Qun. But she's cool as ****. So are all the rest of the Chargers. Dalish, Rocky, Grim, I forget the other two. They all crack me up. Iron Bull saying the Fereldan Healer's poultice 'potion' tasted like mierda was hilarious.

I like Krem.  He seems like a good warrior and reliable second in command.  It's interesting to hear a bit of his perspective on Tevinter, since we've really only two "Vints" in our group so far.  Unfortunately, the fact that he is dead in a fair amount of playthroughs means that he probably won't ever have more than a passing appearance in the future without a major retcon.  In general, though, I liked him.

P.S. Loving the play on words with his name.

Krem is certainly one of the best NPC in the game!  Love him bunches!

That name does sound a lot cooler than "Krem de la Krem", actually. I think I may have to borrow it for the thread title if that's okay! :) (And I'm Twitter as cyborgrani. I'll look up that tag now!)

Krem is a chill dude. There are not enough chill dudes in this series. Everyone's got some goddamn drama, blah blah...

Not Krem though. Just chillin with his beer giving you operations. What a bro.

Also nice that we finally get to interact with a non-mage Tevinter. Wish he had more dialogue about his culture though. Maybe a scene with Dorian or something.

Go for it! I totally followed you on Twitter, should make it easier to see the mess we've created. It's great. Soooo great.

Right?! Chill dude. Standing up on his chair when you pass by, just shootin' the breeze. Love it.

EDIT: I'm a bit new to using these forums, so if anyone could please help me figure out how to change the thread title, that'd be amazing! Thanks in advance!

You have to edit the first post and then click on the "full editor" button.  That will allow you edit thread titles.

That's actually kind of an annoying thing about him.  Everytime I pass him and see him standing on his chair, I'm reminded about the buggy mess that the game is right now.  I'm doing my best to try to ignore that and Krem stands a constant reminder of it.  But I forgive him.

Oh, thank you! I'll try that out now. :) Also, I've actually grown to like seeing him standing on that chair of his. Sticking it to the man, rebelling against the norms of proper furniture etiquette and all that.

Headcanon that mess.

He has to do that when he talks to TIB. Eye to eye and whatnot.

As a Two Spirit, I think how they portrayed Krem was incredible. They didn't focus on his gender or sexuality as though it was the only thing important, and when it did come up occasionally, I saw some incredibly witty answers. Just to try it out, I used one and the argument Iron Bull used explaining how ridiculous it was to make claims about another person's gender identity made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. He's always been my fav party member - because scars and eyepatch - but that really made him even more intriguing. I kept Krem alive in my playthrough.

DA:I handled a lot of things well. And not in an in your face 'look how liberal we are!' sort of way. It's just another part of the world and it worked well that way.

The first time that "gender" related comments came up, I refused to click on them. I was worried that it was going to go typical video game and everyone gets a good yuck out of the person in question. Then the conversation was available to have with Krem directly and I was so, so pleased. I wish the written text on the dialogue wheel had been phrased better (as it ALLUDES to a bad reaction that doesn't exist), but... yeah, I cried. Put down my controller and cried. It was so subtle in the first place, and the reaction was just like, "Yeah, what of it?" And then we moved on. They didn't try too hard, they didn't try to little. It was so completely and utterly perfect.

His response to my Qunari Inquisitor:

"Look, you and I have to walk carefully so we don't break the furniture or the elves. We're probably not the best people to go around deciding what's normal."

Pure win.

Krem was cool, liked his personality and humor, so just as soon as I can get around to Bull's quest, I will be saving Krem and all the Chargers. Sorry, warship full of qunari, but my friends are kind of more important than a temporary alliance!

Yeah, I was fortunately playing a "knight in shining armor" type of Inquisitor the first go around, so that was an easy decision for me.  The next one will be a no-brainer as well since my Inquisitor's going to be Bull's boo.

My 'make the hard decisions for the greater good' dwarf gal, though?  Krem isn't seeing the end of that playthrough.  And it will be sad because the Chargers are incredibly likeable group.  They remind me of Hawke's group:  a rag-tag group of unlikely heroes from different races and backgrounds under the leadership of a charming jerk.
