*sigh* I wish I could draw. *goes back to writing*

Haha, glad you like it. ;)

I'm terrible at writing stories. :D

Recently, I haven't been writing nearly as much as I'd like, so I have to thank this game for sparking some plot bunnies in my head.

I don't have any idea how you can put out these artworks, lol, they're awesome. Now....moar? >.< Sorryyyyy there isn't enough Krem in the game.

Haha, I'm sure I'll draw more Krem soon. I'll just need some ideas, making portraits all the time gets old fast, at least when you make them of the same character.

And drawing him standing on a char is hardly original I'm afraid. :D

And this article is the reason why Bioware is just top notch to me.  They listen to fan feedback and respond appropriately, but with restraint.  To hear about the level of respect and deliberate time spent on making this character turn out how he did is just fantastic.

I enjoy the level of humility and transparency that the devs have around their understanding of other points of view.  Patrick's work is greatly appreciated.  And it sounds like we owe John Epler again.  First, he allowed Bull to romance dwarves.  Then, he created Krem's believable body animations.  And to top it off, it means that we owe him for the Krem-on-the-chair experience.

Indeed. I'm about 75% of the way to forgiving him for TME.

haha, but him on a chair is totally a thing now! I've got like a hundred things in my head, and I'm sure most of them would make better pictures than shorts. Of course, that's probably just my envy of people who can draw shining through. I look forward to anything you come up with, I've seen your art in other threads and it's wonderful, I love your style.

I have just under 14 hours before my hormones appointment in the morning, someone hold me. I'm gonna go kill stuff and talk to Krem and write fanfic to avoid anxiety >.>

Ohh, I'm so excited for you! :D And don't worry, I'm sure it'll go absolutely perfectly. Just think: at the end of it all, you'll actually have your hormones! :)

Thanks! Nerves still, but it's always good to hear people are supportive. How weird is it that a video game character is helping me cope with such a huge decision? Similarly, I wonder how much characters like Dorian have helped those of sexual minorities. Bioware really has no idea how many people it's helping.

Starting HRT can be quite something, the first time I felt the peace of mind when I started HRT was amazing.  Like how a drink of cold water after a hot bath is refreshing, feeling that peace of mind kick in after decades of testosterone poisoning my brain was truly amazing.

Just be sure to not skip a dose, once you begin HRT then it's a for life thing and very much needed.

Krem is one of my favorite non-"Inner Circle" NPCs in the game. He has tons of lines, great personality, some backstory, and is relevant in a few quests. And the voice acting is perfect. Just expressing my love of the character!

(As an aside, I'd love to play a spin-off game as a rookie member of the Chargers, set shortly before Inquisition, with Iron Bull, Krem, and the rest!)

Just for Allan, I took a screenshot of Krem poised to get up on his chair.

Spoiler

And I seriously wish that he had more dialogue that did not involve him living as a man. I get it. A lot of people probably don't understand that, but I do, and I mourn the fact that I can't talk about Tevinter tactics or something with him instead.

Oh, I never thought of doing that! Sorry, I'm still a bit new to these forums (I may have been here for several years, but most of that was checking out the forums around the time when ME3 came out and then forgetting about it) so if I forget to do something obvious, please let me know and I'll figure it out (and please don't be scared to say "you're rubbish at *insert thing here*, this is how you really do it!" :P ) I'll check out the other posts to see what the art & fic sections tend to look like, then update the first post. :)

UPDATE: I'll have to do this tomorrow, I think. I was working on it, had gotten about three quarters of the way through a complete overhaul... then went to delete a bit of text, accidentally went back a page and lost all of my new edits. It's getting late here, so I think I'll wait until the morning to take the time to do this again. I hope that's okay with everyone, and sorry about that! (Now to go off and be in a huff with myself for messing up all of that work... *grumbles*)

It looks great!! :D

Ahahaha, so not only does he hop up on his chair to talk to us, but he can alter the state of solidity of the chair so that he can pull himself THROUGH it. Amazing man, that Krem. :P

It would be neat if we could talk to him more about 'Vinter, but I wonder if maybe that just wasn't deemed as necessary? Dorian talks a LOT about the place. Maybe they thought their bases were covered. But his unique experience would have been great, especially as someone who wasn't a magic user.

I dunno. When you ask him about his past, the main focus of the story is not his gender (although it does come up). It's about his experience in Tevinter. And he talks plenty about other things. If I had to choose one topic that he talks about most often, it's not his gender: it's Iron Bull. The main focus of conversation with Krem is almost always Iron Bull. Which makes sense, because Bull is your connection to Krem and the Chargers.

I absolutely adored Krem. I can't believe he was voiced by Jennifer Hale. When I started the game, I just assumed Krem had an unusually beautiful voice, and my jaw sort of dropped when the reveal conversation came up. I was so impressed by Bioware's choice to include a transgender character (More, please? Romance please?) I couldn't think about anything else for the rest of the cut-scene, but now that I've finished the game I really have to wonder if this is actually in line with Qunari culture.

If this has been addressed in this thread or by a developer, someone please point me to it because I'm ignorant. That said, it felt really out of culture that the Qunari would be so accepting of transgender people, just given what we already know about them. Sten has a fit if you're a female Warden (Why would your women wish to be men?) but Iron Bull acts like it's no big deal and they even have a word for it (I can't recall it atm). And, it's not the actual Qunari who choose their roles (and perhaps by extension their gender) but the tamassran, so why would they be accepting of transgender people? Do all "tomboys" in Qunari culture end up being sent into transgender roles? How does this work?

In my headcanon Sten is just so deep in gender acceptance that it goes over the Warden's head. "Why would your women wish to be men?" is just his way of saying "Why would your women wish to be men when they identify as women?"

I think it's the fact that Sten is a 'devout' or conservative Qunari and Iron Bull is, well, not at all.  He's about as liberal of a Qunari as one can expect.  The fact that Bull can

Spoiler
kind of speaks to this.  I couldn't imagine Sten doing the same in DA: O.

It would be like having a conversation with Newt Gingrich about transgender people and then having a conversation with Hillary Clinton about them.  They are both involved in American politics, but their views are just on opposite ends of the spectrum.  If one met Newt first, they might get a picture about how Americans view it, but that isn't the whole picture.  And that becomes clear when another viewpoint is presented.

My gut is that most Qunari are probably in line with Sten's viewpoint.  It happens (hence the established word for it), but I don't think they are all as accepting as Sten.  This is just my own thinking on it, but I would imagine that a transgender Qunari would be sent to 're-education camp' and then, in some cases, the teachers decide to allow them to live as their identified gender, particularly if they could serve the Qun more effectively in that role.  Hence the existence of it in the lore, but the relative "WTF" reaction from Sten, a fairly conservative Qunari.  At least that's my take on it.

The Qun has very strict gender roles, so Sten's confusion is "you identify as a woman and are a warrior" because for him anyone who is a warrior is a man. If you're a warrior then you're a guy, period. I think it still fits in with what we know about the Qun. You couldn't say...be a man who identifies as a woman and be a warrior, and you can't be a female identified woman and be a warrior. It's not so much acceptance and progressiveness as it is a way to maintain the strict gender roles. I do imagine there have been some people in the Qun kind of forced into it, like a masculine woman who identifies as female but is forced to be a man due to her preferences. Sorry if I'm rambling and not making sense, because:

Totally have my T prescription now, finally. I wish I could share my new injectable testicles with Krem. This one's for you, buddy.

I suppose that's one way to look at it. Being sent to the re-education camp sounds pretty in line with Qunari culture. They made an exception for I.B., so why not make exceptions for some transgender folk? Thank you for the explanation.

Congratulations! That's awesome! I can't imagine how hard it must have been/must be for transgender people who can't fully pursue the physical side of the gender they identify as. I think the idea of a 'feminine' man or a 'masculine' woman being forced into one gender or the other sounds terribly depressing, but definitely something I could see happening just with everything we know about Qunari.

All that said, when Krem asks if people who identify as men are treated like men in Qunari culture, the tone of that question broke my heart. Jennifer Helper really nailed it, and Iron Bull's firm and defensive, "They ARE men," was what finally convinced me I had to romance this awesome character.

Thanks! And yeah, how Iron Bull responded was just wonderful. I almost couldn't handle it because it hit home so hard. I need to send Bioware some flowers or something. Also a minor tip, typically you don't use "transgendered", there's no -ed on the end of the word. (I know, I know, us transgender people and our terminology, lol).

Haha, thank you for the clarification. I need to work on my person-first language. (Fixed it in the post) Like I said, I'm ignorant. I just want to say 'man' or 'woman' but I need something to specify being transgender. It's frustrating.

I'll apologize in advance if this comes off as insulting in anyway but I had to say it.

This is one of the best lines I've read all day!

This quote needs to be on a t-shirt or something. I couldn't help but laugh. In a good way, I assure you.

Congratulations! I'll toast a beer later for both you and Krem in support. :)

If DLC or a patch allows the protagonist to flirt with Krem, we may found out. :)
