HRT can't change your voice much, you actually have to work at the voice yourself with voice training. Male vocal tones are generally lower than female vocal tones so a male voice tends to be much easier while a female voice takes longer and requires constant practice to try and hold the pitch at a comfortable level.

A couple days ago I was playing and went to talk to him, and caught him in the middle of getting up on the chair. So it was a bit of an awkward conversation as he stood there with one foot on the seat of the chair and one on the ground. I could just feel his thoughts "crap. just act natural...maybe the Inquisitor hasn't noticed...should I lower my foot? Should I ease up onto the chair? Why is he still talking to me? Crap."
Oh God, it's gone midnight here and I'm trying not to wake up everyone laughing at the mental image of Krem easing awkwardly onto the chair the way you'd back slowly out of a room. XD And I've noticed that in Haven, he sometimes dances when he's stood next to Bull. He'll just be stood there all casually, looking cool and Krem-like, and suddenly he'll just raise one knee and lower it again like he's doing the shortest jig in history. He really seems to get into it, too!

Ok, I'm sorry, but I have to be blunt and honest about this for now. Hopefully no one takes offense, and certainly I don't mean it that way, but it is all too telling those that would complain about this sort of thing.
With the amazing job that BioWare did with Krem, and especially the great job that Jennifer Hale did voicing him, I find the complaint that people have that they didn't have a transmale voicing him is downright stupid. Yes it's stupid, I'm sorry but I can't be polite about this because it's just pushing things the wrong way. It's punishing those allies that put in the effort to show proper representation in a positive light for no good reason. At best it's a fundamental lack of understanding in how voice acting and game development works, at worst it's intentionally increasing aggressions by creating problems that don't exist
You don't look for an actor who is exactly the character they want to play, you look for a character who can best portray the person you want to portray. Jennifer Hale is, by far, the best choice in this regard. Krem in game pretty much proves it. Many male voice actors have voiced a female role, many female voice actors have voiced male roles. I'm fairly certain Dorian's and Sera's voice actors are not gay themselves but they still did an amazing job bringing those characters to life.
Just to be clear, I only have an issue with those who see what a wonderful job was done with Krem and still seemed determined to complain about such fabricated flaws only to excuse their aggressive behavior under the false banner of political correctness.
*sigh* Again apologies if need be, but it's frustrating as an ally to be assaulted and admonished by the very people you are trying to support simply for not being queer enough in their eyes.

Not true. Testosterone is a very powerful hormone, and most trans guys easily end up naturally in the cis male range. Testosterone changes our vocal chords; we don't have to do voice training like trans women do. I've heard that some guys have difficulty adjusting to speaking naturally in the range, but it isn't the same as trans woman voice training.

lmao, maybe he wants to do that Russian dance with the squatting and the leg kicks. I don't know why Krem is such a magnet for standing and sitting related bugs, but it. is. awesome.

Snipped some length for cleanliness, but this. Voice actors play different genders, races, socioeconomic statuses, accents, etc. all the time. I suggest anyone interested in voice acting to watch "I Know That Voice", it's a wonderful documentary about voice actors. Jennifer Hale is actually one of the actors interviewed for it, as are Mark Hamill, Tara Strong, and a metric effton of others.

Transwomen voice training is hard going, the testosterone poisoning from puberty fairly causes a lot of damage to our bodies. Estrogen does the best it can but the changes caused by years of exposure to testosterone is very extensive.
It's taken me a lot of effort to just get my voice to a level that people regard as feminine, but the rest of the body is degraded and damaged from years of testosterone. Were there magic like in the DA series that could help change the body to how it was supposed to be, then I would happily go for that.

I know MTF training can be a pain, but since it's a thread about Krem I was focusing on the FTM direction. The phrase "testosterone poisoning" makes me shiver, ugh.
I would definitely take the magical route, lol, but I think it's kind of nice that Krem has learned to be chill in his body and not want that kind of transition. It's a nice extra layer of personal acceptance.

1. M2F pre-op Transgender currently off hormones until other health concerns are fixed.
2. I love the inclusion of a non-comedy Transgender character. (I'll be honest most comedy trans characters are m2f, and every so often I actually find them funny, i.e. Ranma 1/2,... who am I kidding I love the Comedy Gender-Bender anime and Mangas.)
3. Jennifer Hale, who signed my copy of ME3 at the release party in Hollywood, is an amazing Voice Actor, and I am proud she did Krem.
4. Yes one day I would love to see more Trans actors in general, however it is not a requirment for a trans-character to be played by a trans-actor. I think it would actually be better if a trans-actor qualified and got the role of a cis-gendered person instead. It would be more significant to me, since it would show that we as a people could get past biological barriers and just accept people as they see themselves.
5. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", I too hope for the magic to be available to make transition 100% natural and indistinguishable from cis-gendered people, for that we have bio-science. And I am hopeful for more advanced treatments in the near future.
6. Did I say I love Krem, and wish He would become a companion at some later date.
7. As to a question I saw above, I have found most people who transition using Hormones remain in the same orientation they were born with. However the percentages are close to 30% Straight, 30% gay, 30% bi, <-not scientific, this is just what I have experienced in the community. I have also noticed that Bi and gay is slightly more common with f2m, and Straight and bi are slightly more common with m2f. And by slightly I mean maybe 1-5% difference from my 30% generic assumptions.
8. as to forum drama...Really please Krem is awesome character and handled perfectly. I love how Iron Bull says "He is a Man", so forceful. And yes Krem is a He.
And while I am listing out rants, use this info-graph to familiarize your self with a few concepts about humans.

My most recent play through is with a brilliant but awkward Dalish mage. Incredibly smart when it comes to traditional knowledge. History, nobility, especially magic. She just absorbs information in all the books in the library. But when it comes to people, she's a bit of an airhead.
So when Bull brings her to meet the rest of the chargers and talks about Krem, naturally I went with the most awkward response imaginable. And it was, totally awkward and cringeworthy, and it was spectacular in that train crash kinda way.
Krem's response to my Elf basically blurting out "Oh! You're a Woman? I had not idea!" was just classic, he just gave her this perfectly incredulous look while saying "Yeah, great for just throwing it out there like that, guess now we gotta talk about it."
I'm paraphrasing here so I'm not sure if that's the actual line, but Hale's delivery of it was just so dramatically drop dead perfectly spot on.
But in the end it was comepletely true and honest interaction, and the way Bull so calmly and effortlessly moved the conversation along. Brilliant.
Didn't hurt that Bull was helping the Inquisitor discover her crazy kinky side. ![]()

At first I thought Krem was just a manly/strong woman, didn't think twice about it. When I learned he was actually a he, I was shocked. In a good way: After the joking representation trans genders have gotten in the past (Serendipity, the Dwarf at the pearl... lol) I thought it was nice that Bioware was like "here ya go" and made a token trans gender character. That's nice. I still occasionally call him a her, not for the wrong reasons but only because I thought he was a she at first, because I didn't think twice about it.
Anyway, despite all the hate he gets from people who (for some reason) care so much about a fictional/virtual character's short hair+vagina combo, I like him. Just another character in a Bioware game, totally fine with me.

You man, I totally respect that. The truth is the Inquisition is far, far stronger with the Qunari as allies, and Krem and the gang understand better than anyone that sometimes **** like that happens. In the end they were all willing to die to get the job done. Krem says as much very clearly when you first talk to him about Bull. They'll give their lives for the big guy if they have to.
Not for the Inquisition, not for the greater good, not for any of that crap. They're doing it for Iron Bull, that's all they ever really cared about.
Even if you choose to sacrifice them, it does nothing to lessen what awesome people they are.
But all things considered, I just like Krem too much to throw the Chargers away, even for all the Qunari Dreadnoughts in Thedas.

I thought Krem at first glance was a girl until the option came up in the tavern to ask. Never really let my inquisitors say it when you are meeting the gang at the tavern, seems rude and embarrassing
