I feel lack of character development and attention is something that every NPC outside your inner circle and maybe Harding suffers from in DA:I. Where are the interesting side characters? There are none giving side quests, those are all just cardboard cutouts with one or two lines of dialogue. There are none in the main plot either, even the important ones like Celine, Gaspard, Briala, and Fiona are as interesting and memorable as a piece of stale white bread (the end piece that nobody wants!). I wish all the NPCs had been taken up several notches and had fit with the quality of other BW games.

They do the same thing that Bioware always does for all of their NPCs. We spend more time with, say, Krem, than we do Dagna. And we have more varied interactions, with more background and information.

And you cite Harding, but there's absolutely nothing to her character. You get a brief, a quip about a place, and a flirt option, and that exhausts her character.

I'm just not getting what makes the DA:I NPCs different, because Bioware didn't do anything different with them.

I can't quite pinpoint it but I do agree with Nefla. It feels different. Like in DA2 I got a strong vibe from Samson and only talked to him once, otherwise only seeing him stand around. Also the quest givers/support characters (the merch captain, Feynriel's father etc.) left a bigger impression on me. Maybe it's simply because we got cutscenes for them and not the regular "static" in game interaction (I hope you know what I mean). Harding is the only one who gets real cutscenes, hence she feels more real. Krem does get content, just not enough to make him grow on me emotionally.

Besides, I would argue we get as much content from Dagna as from Krem. Even get a war table mission from both (more for Dagna even). And, of course, Dagna questions us about the Fade and crafts the rune for Cullen's quest. Krem will only react to events in his introduction line, we cannot catch up on it.

Just to clarify, I don't mean DA:I Dagna. I meant Dagna in DA:O. It may well be the cutscene thing for people - I actually prefer the lack of cutscenes so that's a huge YMMV for me.

I like Krem. He's funny and spars well with The Iron Bull. I get that he's too minor a character to romance, but I do feel kind of sad that we never even get to flirt with him.

I also kind of wish we could have had our inquisitor apologize if they handled the Chargers scene conversation badly.

BioWare would really be heading into dangerous waters making a romance option for a trans character...frankly, that's something I hope they stay very far away from. Honestly, I'd prefer they avoid trans characters entirely. Particularly male-to-female, characters. I have no doubt BioWare is well aware of this and made a very, very calculated decision when they chose a FtM instead of a MtF.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.  And she's in DA: I in the War Table missions.

I think it's safe to say that whenever we go to Tevinter, Mae's going to show up in a major way.  She's one of Gaider's favorite characters and they've already started setting her up to play a role in the reform of the Magisterium that I suspect will be a plot point in a future game.

She's on the list of characters I'd like to disembowel with a cocktail fork.

I would have predicted that, given that I like her and I can usually count on you to provide counterpoint!

If nothing else, she deserves a chance to reclaim the mantle of "The Good Tevinter" from Dorian.

Just a one or two flirting conversations would just have been great really. And yeah some conversations with Krem are just... I mean I want to talk to him but some questions just make my inquisitor sound so clueless.

If my financial situation picks up in time(which it should), I'll definitely be getting a shirt.

This plus, whatever he is, I think he's just freaking hot.

I wish they'll make him a romance option though.

Lolol point made. I guess that explains the popularity of the look.

At least Krem doesn't have douche stubble like the marketed Inquisitor, though honestly that would have just been perfect.

Something tells me that if he could grow it, they'd have given it to him.

(OT:  Is stubble douchey now?  When did that happen?  Are beard extra-douchey?  Do I have to shave if I don't want to be a douche?)

+1! Happy Transgender Day of Visibility to all! Krem was a pleasant surprise, and I was delighted to see him. I recommended DA:I to a friend of mine and casually told him to keep an eye out for Bull's right hand man as he was pretty interesting. Didn't say why. He rang me in tears when he had the tavern cutscene. :)

Whether perfectly handled/implemented or not, Krem and his story are important to people. Don't let anyone try and take that from you. :)
