I would have predicted that, given that I like her and I can usually count on you to provide counterpoint!
lol, right? Anyone or anything I like, I can usually count on Z to prefer killing it or them with eating utensils.

Wait, Krem uses that gigantic hammer?
Yes, yes he does. Because he's a beast.
(OT: Is stubble douchey now? When did that happen? Are beard extra-douchey? Do I have to shave if I don't want to be a douche?)
I'm coming in very late to this thread, but I wanted to thank the writers for Krem, because his character was an excellent icebreaker for a difficult discussion with a family member. As a parent, I'm thrilled to see positive depictions of transgender characters being included in videogames. Our transgender kids need more role models in their favorite media, characters with whom they can identify. I'm only sorry that Krem did not have a larger role and won't continue in the next game.
I'm glad for Krem's presence in the game and the writers' frank support of him. It's a good step. Maybe in a future game, we'll have a trans character as a full companion. As a rather minor side-character, he does lack in characterization, but there's enough for me to like him and to ensure that the Chargers aren't just an asset to throw away without a care. (Though I for one wouldn't sacrifice them anyway since I want nothing to do with the qunari.) I don't need a character to have a flashy or extreme personality to like them or consider them interesting -- I want team players who try to get along with the rest and aren't selfish, narrow-minded, abusive or sh*t-stirrers, so Krem with his relaxed, confident attitude and sense of humor is good in my book.
I feel kind of bad for skipping out of threads that turn ugly against Krem (and on some other issues) because it's important to speak up, but the sentiments raised by certain people are both so ugly and yet so commonplace that they get to me fast and hard. You end up with this grotesque hairball of transphobia, homophobia and sexism -- unsurprisingly, since they're so very closely related -- combined with an attitude of "being called a bigot makes me the REAL victim here" and "just telling the truth as it is, not my fault if you losers can't handle it" that is just beyond the pale. So big kudos for those of you folks who have the stomach to ride this out over and over.
I personally would have preferred the game to be much smaller (I could have done without the millions of shards and a few other side objectives) and instead focus more on the people and interactions. More family quality time.
Agreed. If you cut out all the padding, the game is actually quite short, and the main story sadly disjointed and underdeveloped. There's a lot of untapped potential there that just screams for more attention. The characters and their relationships with each other and with the protagonist would have benefitted from more time and a better connection to the "greater whole", too. I hope in the future, Bioware will (be allowed to?) remember that their strength lies in character writing, and that trying to ape Skyrim without actually including any of the features that make more open-world games appealing made this game worse than it could have been. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot in this game that I really love, but it comes with a certain melancholy of knowing that it could have been so much better still.
I am also a bit sad that BW (again) locked me out of scenes for not romancing characters. They said beforehand they would design the game with more respect to friendship but I feel it is the same thing as before:
Agreed again. It always bugs me when lore, character revelations/development or other bits of content are "romance-gated", and when friendships are given so little consideration in comparison. As touching as some of the "friendship scenes" are, I felt little in the way of an lasting sense of support and care from any of the NPCs. But I've ranted about that in other threads, so eh. I'd just kill for an option to put in special effort to truly build meaningful platonic bonds, and for them to be treated as special and lasting and worthy of future mention and respect, just like romances.
