Hey there folks.

 

So I'm re-rolling my Inquisitor as elven instead of my original idea of human, and I just can't seem to get the proportions down correctly.

 

I've scanned the "Realistic Facial Proportions" thread here in Character Customization, but for the life of me, I can't seem to come up with a face that I'm really happy with, and one that matches the voice (British) that comes out of his mouth. 

 

Anyone with a male elven inquisitor feel like sharing their customization process or choices in the CC? Which preset/face shape/complexion to take? I know the hairstyle I want to sort of shape it around (the cropped/shaved hairstyles), but I know such aesthetics come later...

I wrassled with this for around an hour and a half last night for a male elf (sue me), and I came to a couple of silly conclusions that are completely subjective.  My finally masculine...ish elf:

• preset 1 has normal proportions, I did not change any structure
• a complexion with a frown line is best, but not the one with the five o'clock shadow (totally threw facial proportions off in the game)
• dark hair + slightly tan skin tone - the lighter the hair the worse it is
• the second (might be wrong) eyebrows are a little more scowly, most normal looking
• Needs a tattoo - I like the full face one with the lines and diamond thing on the forehead one in a very dark shade of the eye color

I tried a metric crapton of customizing, entering the game, skipping all the cutscenes, exiting to menu, and trying again.  If I were at home I would give you a screenshot, but alas.

 

I kept trying to over-customize and it kept turning him into a bobblehead; specifically I kept trying to give him a jaw thinking it would help.  No, it did not.  I ended up with the pulled back ponytail with receding hairline because any short hairstyle also made him disproportionate, it seemed.

I just eyeballed the whole process, making sure to check both front, 3/4th, and profile view as I went. And I ended up with a good looking head on my elf. (ignoring the horrendous modeling job of the male body)

I've been trying to re-create him (props to GUI_VB_IP_Tracker, reddit), but I just can't do it. Maybe you're more fortunate - he started with the third preset btw.

I generally start with the third preset and find myself having to change very little to come up with a decent looking elf.

 

 

Slight tweaks to the cheekbones and jawline, a different nose, and that's pretty much it (cosmetics like hairstyle and eye colour aside).

I'm having some troubles finding are acceptable hairstyle for my male elf (I deleted my first character after 25h because his face & hair started to annoy me )
I think I'll try with this one, it looks like a descent hairstyle between short and long hairs

Yeah, I saw that already. It's his own re-creation of that character though, and looks noticeably different/worse. Not that the new one looks bad, he just doesn't have that "wow" affect the first one had.

Nevertheless, thanks for mentioning it!

WOWOW. Thanks for sharing your amazing Elven Inquisitors, you guys~! It really warms the heart to know I have the potential to make something amazing with the CC.

 

As it stands, I'm...waiting to be able to afford parts for a gaming PC, so it might take me a while until I can put this knowledge to good use. Hopefully soon, but I'm not holding my breath *sigh*

That's a pretty great looking elf! Do you have any pics of him in the Haven/Skyhold outfit? I'm thinking of going back and starting an elf game again, gave up on it over the broken arms/ten-year-old frame, as it doesn't feel quite the same as playing a human mage. Not enough outrage Figure Bioware will fix the issue before I get to Skyhold again.

At work right now, but I can snap some when I get back tonight. I should be able to get sliders for him too, since I had to create him about five times due to the beginning of game fade bug.

Cool, thanks. I'd love to get a look at the sliders. I had a similar looking elf but there was just something about him that was slightly off.

Here's my Lavellan. I didn't go in with any plans for him aside from his eye color and his scars and I started from the first preset.

I think I went with the first preset on mine to, but did several edits. The hair color took the longest. I had a white haired elf mage warden, a red-head mage hawke, and I was trying to figure out what hair color to go with for my elf mage Inquisitor. I was thinking blonde, but the color I liked came with god aweful green eyebrows. So I settled on the platinum blonde hair in the end.

Probably a long shot, but would you ever be willing to share sliders for this gentleman? No pressure, of course. But he's got one of the most endearing designs I've seen for dude elves so far, haha. I love him.
