People say this, and when they do, I have to wonder if we're inhabiting the same reality. Mages in DAO were slow, boring, silly looking, and broken - particularly as an AW, which was the only fun way to play.

I guess if you like shuffling around like you've filled your depends and poking things with a stick, mages in DAO were great.

Word! 100% true

DAO let me sneak up on groups of enemies and paralyze them before they even knew I was there. That's exactly the sort of combat gameplay I want, and very few games offer it.

They're plenty of stealth/action genres that does that allows you to sneak up and kill enemies. Even Fallout and Elder Scrolls can do that, it's hardly unique with Origins. It's just a broken game with good story and characters.

Are you describing a feature I like as "broken"?

Again, I don't think challenge is valuable. I think a coherent simulation is valuable.

It's my opinion dude. If you like this type of game like Origins that's cool.

very disappointed in this game the side missions are very dull and the open areas are really uneventful but what really lets this game down is the gameplay.....the action is badly dated and the tactics migh aswell not be there im so bored while exploring and really see every battle as a pain in the ass grind .....the mages are a joke compared to the mages from origin etc ........ im only having fun when in a cutscene the gameplay is so far behind skyrim...dragons dogma ,,, witcher its criminal........looking forward to playing rest of the story but this game could have and the lore deserves greater effort ........id say this game overall is no more than a 7.5 most the score been in the presentation etc

so what class are you playing and what is your class build? which talent paths have you chosen? have you finished the main story quest "In Your Heart Shall Burn"?

i had some issues my first few times playing DAI, before i understood the games pacing and how well the combat worked when i understood the strategies involved and read through the talent skills thoroughly instead of just glancing and picking while leveling up.

the game increased in fun for me after that.

also, i know many people complain about gathering mats, crafting, side quests etc.... all this stuff is VERY MUCH SO, OPTIONAL!!!! you really don't need to pick up any herbs or ore through the whole game.... now you might have to for a few side quests, but just because you see stuff to pick up, doesn't mean you have to. same with side quests.

i have a friend who hates "grind/gathering", and i told him the same thing.

for me, the way i play this game is, i put about 120+ hours into a play-through, gathering and thoroughly exploring maps. that doesn't mean YOU should play this way too. that's one of the good aspects of this game, you can turn it into a 50+ hour, follow the MAIN STORY, DAO like campaign, or play like me and explore everything ad~nauseum...

i agree that there are some BIG spaces in between certain story aspects if you decide to travel in different directions. and that sometimes makes the game feel empty compared to Dragon Age Origins awesome, character, character building, badassery that happens throughout the whole game!!! IMO high quality and very rewarding!!!

like seeing the bandits when entering Lothering for the first time!!! that's such a great character building moment in DAO and that game is FILLED with moments like that!!! where as DAI, you can play 10 hours without feeling like you are "Role-Playing" in the very strict sense of the phrase.

but once you understand pacing, you figure out how and when you should go to do the next story quests, the game feels much more fun, and of course that's my opinion, maybe you will dislike DAI and it's all downhill for you. i wouldn't judge that. the game might not service you joy receptors like it does for me.

good luck, Ross, cheers.

May I suggest playing on hard or insanity, turning on friendly fire, and activating all of the Trials.  This would probably make the game less boring.

The combat system in DAI is abysmally bad, and the single worst thing in the game (yes, it's worse than bland MMO quests and sprawling empty zones). People who like it... well, I can't understand, but then I suppose it's the same people who don't mind the retarded mages breakdance in both DA2 and DAI, so well...

MORE Spells and Sustained Modes ... More Specialisations, I hated the poke poke with stick combat mechanic too but the spells were way WAY better, and you had the Radial Wheel so you could use ALL OF THEM!.This paired with the faster Non-poking battle mechanics from DA2 and DAI could have been something really special. Instead the Mage is watered down to almost nothing with a piddling 8, 8! spells come on!.

I have made with Dragon bones this Tidarions Klinge for my Inquisitor. He is a Echanted Knight. He makes now more fun, because he can goes in the melee without this limited SpiritSword. Unfortunately, you can give this Sword only a rune.

No, that makes it a TON MORE boring.

For ****'s sake, massive health bars ARE NOT difficulty. They are TEDIUM. Lots and lots and lots and lots of tedium. Boring as ****** balls. I'd rather kill quickly and die quickly than to spend hours grinding on a massive health bar.

And I also prefer there to be an even playing field between you and your enemies. The same abilities for both (like in DA:O) so that you can understand what they are doing how dangerous it is, instead of having different rules for each, resulting in the ridiculous situation where you are ten times more lethal to your party member than your enemies.
