Another performance/bug thread, but technical help has only a handful of people posting and this is regarding a more specific issue than the other performance thread.

I have a EVGA GTX 980 SC 4GB. I *constantly* get the game crashing on me, with an OUT_OF_MEMORY error. It is frustrating beyond belief as I can see that I'm using little over 2GB on Ultra (dependant on where I am etc).

I didn't pay £500+ (originally had a GTX 780ti, long story, I know 980's are around £400) for newer titles to run like garbage. It's disgusting, quite frankly, that people have to tolerate this sort of performance.

I digress, however. Has anyone else had this issue? Any workarounds?

EDIT:

Just an update as to what I've tried, save repeating myself.

- No MSAA.

- Borderless Window gives me roughly -20fps hit.

- Fade Touched texture setting set back to Ultra.

- Latest drivers installed (completely clean installation).

- Installed on an SSD.

- Direct X and other such necessities have been reinstalled/repaired.

EDIT 2:

http://imgur.com/gCu1jzd<<<<< Image of the error in question.

8GB RAM (including system processes etc I'm using about 6GB).

i5-4670k @ 3.4GHz (80%-100% usage across all four cores).

Background processes are kept at a minimum. Steam, Origin, maybe Chrome. I've tweaked my system a fair bit for performance, so everything else is pretty much essential (or stuff I don't want to risk turning off for fear of what it does, lol).

This is specifically a VRAM issue though. The warning is more thorough than that though, but it hasn't repeated itself as of yet for me to post it up. It does state however that VRAM is "low" and DAI should be closed. I'm using about 2GB VRAM now in Fallow Mire.

I literally have the same card and have not run into that error, I'm about 40 hours into the game.

Yeah, I haven't encountered that bug yet. I have a 780 Ti if that matters.

Maybe it's driver related or you just need to repair/reinstall the game.

What are your other specs? With a card like that I assume they're pretty worthy, but you never know.

I have a 770, so not really applicable. Have you done a clean install of drivers? Updated C+ executable? Those steps fixed some crashes we were experiencing, but i don't recall seeing an out of memory error - they were DX related.

What do you have running in the background while using the game?

That's New.

Did you post crash report in tech help?

I've never had that on my 970, In fact I haven't had ANY bugs in 50 hours of play. I know I've been amazingly lucky, but I just wanted to put out that counter-point to the show that it's not all doom and gloom. In your case I'd be reinstalling the latest Nvidia drivers and DirectX, plus checking the heat of the card.

Sorry for double-post, not sure if you can edit.

Direct X etc have all been installed. I did a complete clean up of my graphics drivers.

Come to think of it, is 8 gigs of system memory truly enough nowadays?

And as for the error OP is describing, haven't seen that myself. Only the directX error, twice in 60 hours. And nVidia GTX970 here.

Hmm.

Your system specs are fine, 8g is more than sufficient. Are you certain you're using the 980 and not integrated video?

Well considering I'm only using 6GB whilst playing this game...yes? :D

Absolutely 100% sure. The card is performing at 70% load.

Oh, and everything is on Ultra. No MSAA. I had Fade-Touched textures enabled but I went down to Ultra in-case that was the problem.

Performance is all over the place for me. Sometimes 60, most of the time around 40-50. Dips to 20-30 in Haven.

Temps are fine. Around 60c.

Pretty much the same video card as OP and never had that problem. EVGA 980 AC2 superclocked.

I'm playing borderless windowed if that makes a difference? Also all settings on Ultra except MSAA which I've turned off.

Actually I think you made a mistake buying that graphic card instead of the 970, from what I heard the 980 is double the price and half the power of the 970.

Dude, sry for that...

Actually im runing an a xfx hd 7970 Oced to 1,05ghz and 1,425ghz on memory (3gb ddr5), also a amd phenom ii x4 945 (3ghz standard, since my mobo doesnt support higher voltage), 8gb single channel 1600 mhz ddr3 ram.

Setings are most on high (textures on ultra), no MSAA and post-procesing on high, tessellation/water text on medium. Game run by around 45fps, even with that crap of micro/mobo. Ofc, im using mantle, and its work like a charm for me (it decrease cpu usage by about 15%, and free fps increase by about 5-10).

So, im guessing that you problem are on the gpu itself. Did you drivers are the latests one? i mean... catalyst (amd sofware for gpus) allow me to install beta drivers, the last one (beta) is the one who provides support for DA:I, idk how you can check it in nvidia, but im sure you can, be sure that you driver actually have support for DA:I.

Also, try with no MSAA (off) and post-processing AA on high (or even sweet fx can help you), i know that you gpu can handle x4 msaa, but it takes a lot of fps/memory. Tesselation also takes a lot of gpu memory, so try by reducing it a little.

Hope this can help you.

For my 970 a patch came out within the last few days that address the MSAA issue.

I have a 970 and get lag running the game on ultra with 2xMSAA. It's really sad, the game needs to be better optimised.

No issues with my 970 but then I could be using a different manfacturer than the others with graphic problems.

The GTX 970 at stock speeds does *not* outperform a GTX 980, but they can be overclocked to meet or slightly exceed a GTX 980's performance.

As I briefly mentioned in the original post, I paid £500 for a GTX 780ti. After two faulty cards I went through a lot of effort to get a GTX 980 as a replacement. I technically paid extra, but originally it was for a GTX 780ti.

Back on topic, however...  :)

Updated original post with more information, but to clarify I do have the latest drivers installed (fresh/clean), and there's no MSAA.

I have a Nvidia 760 and the game works just fine with everything maxed our
