For those of you with high-end graphics cards...

Its kinda dramatic, but if you want to be 100% sure its the GPU, you don't have any other choice. Another, more extreme test would be to put the card in another system if you can and do the above as well, if it still faults, then there is absolutely no chance it is anything but the GPU.
I have to admit, it sounds like you have had really rotten luck, but its not impossible your luck is so bad the replacement 980 GPU was crap as well.

Any potential adverse affect on games installed on other drives (registry files etc)? Going to be such a hassle if so.

Reinstalled Windows...no change. 45 frames per second when looking out towards the fortress, standing right next to the last beacon.

Yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that. As of yet, no error, but it's quite intermittent. I'm going to load up BF4 and crank up res scale to 200%, but that caused it to crash instantly last time I tried (and with my old GTX 670 I was able to do it...the game would just perform at snails pace).

I saw this error a couple of times with my 760, but they went away when I upgraded the driver to 344.75. Check the driver version, just in case. Regarding your card, dealers sometimes give a refurbished/returned card when you RMA your old card. You might have gotten a lemon. Do some more testing with other games, maybe AC Unity? That's quite demanding I guess.

Well I did the aforementioned test on BF4 and no issue this time around, so yayayayayayaya! I'll play some DA later and hope for the best.
The card was brand new, seal and everything. Plus I pretty much insisted on a new unit. ![]()
AC Unity is probably the worst game you could have suggested, given the amount of bugs it has on it. ![]()
DAI performance is still a bit lame though. Here's hoping patch or another driver will fix it.

Well well well...booted up the game again and the performance has improved a fair bit. Tested a few of the areas that I'd noticed drops in frame rate.
- Fallow Mire, standing next to third beacon and looking out toward fortress. BEFORE: 45fps. AFTER 57-60fps.
- Skyhold, standing in the arch way looking out double doors. BEFORE: 35-45fps. AFTER: 50-60fps
- Skyhold courtyard spawn point. BEFORE: 40fps. AFTER: 50-60fps.
- Hinterlands farm. Awkward to explain, but essentially at the far back of the farm (towards rift), facing opposite way overlooking farm (towards broken bridge). BEFORE: 40fps. AFTER: 60fps.
So whatever's going on, I don't know. Fresh install wasn't the case since I had the same issues when I tried immediately after. Only other thing I've done since then is reinstall stuff and disable a few services/update other drivers.
Hey-ho, can't complain! Thanks for the support all!

And sorry for the dump and (now) triple-post. I can't see an edit button.
- Original spawn point in Hinterlands. BEFORE: 40fps. AFTER: 55-60fps.
This is with everything on maximum, low post-process AA, fade-touched textures.
CPU usage marginally better. Still high up as high as 98%. Temps 48c.
More importantly, only 2GB of VRAM is used. God knows where I ended up using 3GB+ before.

I have a 970 and get lag running the game on ultra with 2xMSAA. It's really sad, the game needs to be better optimised.
can't, i would assume because they needed to make sure it ran on the most likely system to which people might have, not the latest tech.

Another performance/bug thread, but technical help has only a handful of people posting and this is regarding a more specific issue than the other performance thread.
I have a EVGA GTX 980 SC 4GB. I *constantly* get the game crashing on me, with an OUT_OF_MEMORY error. It is frustrating beyond belief as I can see that I'm using little over 2GB on Ultra (dependant on where I am etc).
I didn't pay £500+ (originally had a GTX 780ti, long story, I know 980's are around £400) for newer titles to run like garbage. It's disgusting, quite frankly, that people have to tolerate this sort of performance.
I digress, however. Has anyone else had this issue? Any workarounds?
EDIT:
Just an update as to what I've tried, save repeating myself.
- No MSAA.
- Borderless Window gives me roughly -20fps hit.
- Fade Touched texture setting set back to Ultra.
- Latest drivers installed (completely clean installation).
- Installed on an SSD.
- Direct X and other such necessities have been reinstalled/repaired.
EDIT 2:

I have a 780ti and have run both borderless window and fullscreen without any issues. I have MSAA x2 and running on 2560x1440 resolution with fade-touch. Even my 2600k CPU doesn't go over 56% usage and this is with many tabs open in my browser.

I installed win 8.1 yesterday and decided to try mantle. I get way better fps but it starts stuttering...
On DX lesser fps but no stuttering. I have the amd 290.
Anyone having the same problem?

What other Drivers did you update?
Motherboard drivers, audio etc. Stuff people should do when they first install Windows. I think the only new drivers were Intel Rapid Storage Management and unofficial but widely recommended audio driver for Xonar DGX.

Well, you're lucky. No way I'd get that performance. No idea why though.

My MSI 970 is running beautifully - no stutters, slowdowns, or crashes, very smooth framerate. This is with almost everything on ultra and textures on fadetouched. 1920x1200 resolution.
I will say that I'm really careful about background programs running (I tend not to have any unless they are system critical) and I don't use overlays or anything. My on-boot processes are very sparse, I don't like things just automatically starting apart from anti-virus. I also only tend to update drivers if I'm experiencing a specific problem, or if the drivers are targeted in some way towards the game/program I'm running (so I did update them for DAI since NVidia released specific performance-enhancing ones for it, AC:U and FC4).
