I haven't checked, but can Sera wear the Orlesian Rogue armor?  The one that says "human-trained only"?

If she can wear it, then the game is somewhat internally consistent...  If she can't wear it, then there's even less of a reason as to why she can't wear the dalish rogue armor.

Yes, she can.

She has a human body model and human height. I propose she is half elf of the Feynriel ilk. If that's not enough for you, immediately after walking away from her to talk to Cole he said this...

Sera hates elfiness and elf things. That's why she doesn't wear or use elf trained items.

You need elven dietary and exercise training to fit into their clothing. Sera just eats cookies all day. So there you go.

I heard that you can make something out of Silverite and it will be available to equip to any class, but I'm not sure this will also work by race. It might, but I'm not sure.

Sera is more human than elf thanks to her upbringing. Even her body shape is more human than elf with those curves, especially the back end.

Sera is a self-hating elf with a sever case of internalized racism going on.

Sera can open the locked cells beneath the Chantry in Haven for you if your a mage or a warrior (actually she just automatically loots them) but I just cannot trigger that conversation with her in the Haven pub is anyone else having this problem?

Her real parents are unknown, but she was taken in my Lady Emmald very early on.

Then she ran away and a Jenny took her in - a Human, mind you.

She was trained by Humans. The armor says "Elf-TRAINED" thus it means TRAINED BY ELVES. Only Solas and Elven Inquisitor meet the requirement.

I've seen people mention this but it never happened to me. Worked every time I tried it.

I've believed this for awhile; glad to see there's some proof!  (I really need to talk to Cole regularly.)  I think this would explain why she's not "elf trained"; she has the wrong physique to fit into the armor.  Alternatively, she won't put on "elfy" gear.  It's a pity it doesn't trigger a cut scene with Sera when you try to equip her with Dalish scout armor and she refuses to wear it.  "Arrow in your face" and a stream of other Sera-isms would likely follow!  ;)  Heck, they should a number of cut scenes where companions react to the gear you give them.  I can imagine the colorful remarks from Vivienne when forced to wear gear that doesn't make her look like a fashion model.  Or Blackwall, when receiving a Grey Warden outfit.

Sera can open the locked cells beneath the Chantry in Haven for you if your a mage or a warrior (actually she just automatically loots them) but I just cannot trigger that conversation with her in the Haven pub is anyone else having this problem?

After a few conversations where you build approval with Sera, your inquisitor should go into the basement and try to open all the doors and verify that they're locked.  I think only after you do that will it trigger the dialogue choice where you can ask Sera to open the cells.  If you've done that and the dialogue option doesn't trigger, maybe you need to build approval with Sera a bit more.  In the dialogue options, tell her what she wants to hear...

Check the codex on Sera after she tells your IQ about Lady Emmald; the codex updates to say that Leliana's people cannot verify that a Lady Emmald ever existed in Denerim; that plus the unknown real parents makes me think Sera isn't telling the truth about her pre-Red Jenny life.

As to "elf-trained", "human trained", etc., I think those are just racial categories.  I don't think Solas really has any special "elf training."  He's nostalgic for ancient Arlathan but has no special sympathy for the Dalish or the city elves.  (After the winter palace, he takes offense if you assume he would be upset if things didn't work out for Briala.)  Although he seems a bit taller than other elves, he still has the right physique and thus fits into Keeper Armor, etc.

She says what I just repeated in a romance dialogue, being very emotional. She's either an exceptional actor, or it's simply the truth. Where she'd pick up this kind of acting skill is a bit of an enigma, so I'm going with the truth option.

Can you imagine how honked off Sera would be if you did make her wear Dalish gear?

That I would love to hear.  She's oddly nice to my Dalish Inquisitor though and doesn't seem to mind either the Dalish Cutters or the Dalish bow.

Hmm...

Well, Sera is an Elf, right? A city elf from Denerim, but nevertheless, a "full Elf".

Now I found a T3-schematic for a rogue armour, something like "Dalish Scout..."

I crafted one for Sera and... she cannot equip it, because it requires "elf training".

I think, that's not ok.

Your opinions?

I think, it makes perfect sense, considering that Sera dislikes everything elves-related.
The first and the last thing she has in common with the elves is the form of ears. Judging and expecting a certain behavior from a character because of it looks a bit ridiculous.

Elf training probably means you end up a lot slimmer than Sera; the armour seems to be pretty close fitting with not much room a more fuller figure.   Solas would qualify since he is skinny.   When my Dalish was wearing the Dalish Scout armour it actually made him look like he had muscles but Solas was hanging around in the background in his ancient elf (Keeper type) robs and still looked round shouldered, thin and lacking in muscle.     It is likely she would also object to having to wear it because it is too elfy.

As for the story about Emmald, it is true; when she dies she actually leaves Sera her estate in Denerim, worth over 28,500 sovereigns.   There is a whole two pages about it in World of Thedas 2.    Sera apparently knew about this but declined to properly claim it and during the Blight the authorities claimed it to fulfil obligations to the Grey Wardens.   Even so, after the Blight it was still worth over £10,000 sovereigns.   Subsequently Sera seems to have claimed what was left to pay off debts, plus the property was damaged by fire and then authorised dissolution of the holdings because she really didn't want to be bothered managing them. She suggested passing it for the use of orphans and it had been transferred to an undetermined sister of the Chantry.     However, it would seem that the Chantry sisters were all ministering at Kinloch Hold and the estate was seized due to non occupancy and then fines ate up much of what remained.

Anyway, the fact is that the Emmald cared enough for Sera to try and provide for her in her will and it was Sera's fault if it didn't work out that way.   I actually thought a lot less of Sera after reading this because regardless of the cookies incident, the lady genuinely cared for her and yet she reduced her in her mind to that one petty incident.

Thanks.  All I had to go on was the codex after Sera tells you about Lady Emmald; it said that this could not be verified.  Even after first hearing the story, I felt Sera was being unfair to Lady Emmald.  Hearing that she actually cared enough about Sera to leave her an inheritance and Sera snubbed does lower her in my opinion too.  I'm glad I had my IQ go after Josephine this time instead of having her tiptoe around Sera's numerous fault lines.  Did the World of Thedas say anything about who Sera's birth parents were?  If it didn't, I'm still inclined to think she may be half human given her physique.

Why do people refuse to listen to Bioware after they state numerous times that there's no such thing as a Half-Elf in Dragon Age?

Technically, there is... They just look completely Human. Take Alistair. His mother was an Elf (Fiona, actually) and his father was King Maric. Nobody could tell he's an Elf from the mother's side, could anyone?

I think there's just a slight difference lore-wise (ie Half-anything being shorter, with Half Elf/Human being just a tiny bit shorter than normal Humans, but otherwise regaining full Human outlook).

Wow. Really?

Wow.

You know, I also always thought that it sounded like Lady Emmeld genuinely cared about Sera and that, while it was petty and hurtful of her to claim that the cook was racist to avoid admitting she couldn't bake, it was rather petty of Sera to discard all the good the woman did for her in favor of focusing only on the bad thing she didn't like. To only remember the cookie incident and hold it against the woman forever.

This just confirms it. And honestly? It's just another reason for me not to like Sera.

In general, she seems like thr kind of petty grudge-holder who'll discard all the good things a person does for her over a long period of time in favor of focusing on the one bad thing in a bad incident that she'll never forgive or forget. Lady Emmeld took her in and cared for her and left her everything, but she did one sucky thing by playing the race card to hide that she can't bake? That's all Sera chooses to remember about her. Likewise, a Dalish Inquisitor could potentially be the perfect girlfriend who's always there for Sera all game, but after the Temple of Mythal the one time they refuse to discard their elven heritage for her, that's it. A whole year of being a loving girlfriend doesn't matter, because that one moment of being "too elfy" is all Sera needs to discard and dump them.

Now I really dislike Sera as a character.
