my first impression looking at the numbers was that it would be mediocre, and unupgraded, it's indeed terrible.  But upgraded with the Shattered Ground perk, it's now dealing so much more damage that I wonder if there are hidden bonuses involved, or if the numbers are just bugged.  The upgrade is supposed to give it a 20% weapon damage damage-over-time spell that persists for eight seconds, but in actual use it's dealing about 200%.  The initial strike seems to have an additional tick to it as well.

Could someone test this out?  I was using it on human enemies in Crestwood, using the respec amulets to switch back and forth.

The 20% weapon damage over time from the passive is not physical damage. It passes right through enemy armor. That's possibly why, assuming you are fairly low level (10-12) with a weapon that has fairly low weapon damage.

I think the damage over time component is considered fire damage, could be wrong though, haven't used it in a while.

I got the same results as the OP.

Using a 155 damage weapon on Hinterlands enemies i did ~150 on normal strikes, the DOT did > 300 damage per tick.

Even with armor considerations, i don't see how 300 can be considered 20% of weapon damage.

Also seems to ignore your own party even with Friendly Fire off, it's the first AE attack i've seen that does that, are there others?

For my 2H warrior without a spec yet, this is actually a nice move for crowds.

So what you're saying is that while the tooltip originally states 20%, the ability is actually doing 200% per second.

So either the tooltip writer or the coder put the decimal point in the wrong place. A pretty huge difference.

Unless, you just made a typo :)
Perhaps, turn friendly fire (on)

Assuming, it's a typo. How is it with friendly fire on, do you have to constantly use TC or does the AI play more intelligently -> making sure to not get in front a party members attacks/projectiles etc?

(I'm playing in Nightmare, plan on playing my second run through; nightmare + friendly fire on)

Played around with it more, and I get a very small dot applied now and then, but it's very random as to when and if it's applied.  So the 20% damage over time portion is still there, it's just that more often, the 200% weapon damage is being applied instead.  It basically ticks as long as the enemy stays in the fire, which isn't very difficult to manage.
