I just picked up Mass Effect 2 from my local Gamestop's midnight launch and I'm trying to install the game - unfortunatley, whenever I get to "Installing english.rar" the game asks me to insert Disk 2. Which I do.
But the installer keeps popping up the same dialog box when I hit "OK" or "Retry". The CD is definitely being recognized by my computer, but the installer doesn't seem to be getting with the picture. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, if that makes any difference.
Mass Effect 2 - Disk 2 not recognized during installation

I worked around it by copying both DVDs to my hard drive and named them ME1 and ME2. I hit setup on the first disk's files, and then when it asked for the second disk I renamed the first folder to something else (ME11, not that it matters) and renamed the second folder to ME1, so the installer would figure out where it was. It's just finished installing a few minutes ago.

How many DVD drives you got? I had a similar problem and I had to place a disc in each drive before I started the install. Than it worked.

Ya, I am getting the same thing, only at a way earlier point (a video library or some such that gets to 96.9%). The progress bar gets 1/5 of the way and it asks for a disc swap. I oblige, and it just whines that the disc still needs to be swapped. I even tried using the autorun on disc 2 and it still did nothing. I'm on Vista 32-bit though, not win7.

I like rwillard's method, since running two drives would be a cumbersome task for me (I would have to cannibalize on from another computer, which I don't feel like doing at 1 AM).

I was more suggesting IF you already had one in the PC.

Heh, ya, I never saw the use in investing in a redundant second one... Well, until tonight anyways.

How do these basic fatal install issues get past QC?
I"m installing as I type this on a Vista x64 machine and now am awaiting the needless failure.

Yea I had this issue too. I found that it was trying to read from the lowest lettered drive instead of the one I had launched the setup from.
