Having trouble finding a use for them. The only things I can think of that use predictable elements are:

  • One of those red templar things with fire
  • Venatori mage final boss with fire
  • Pride demon with electric
  • That floating black mage with cold
  • Stick men in the elven ruins with spirit
  • Green ghosts with spirit
  • Mage miniboss with spirit

Can't think of anything else, and most of them seem to be extremely situational. Most reliable one seems to be Spirit.

Stick men? They need an arrow tonic.

Terrors or whatever.

I haven't actually used any yet, but I have considered using Spirit Resistance based on them Wraiths.  What a pain as they take pot shots on ya, especially on wave 5.

Most tonics are useless as fas as I can tell. Rock armour gives 23 armour for X seconds and we've seen that armour is rubbish. 23 is not even a basic attack on routine!

Another person who never played DA until now, I assume. Only reason you think it's bad is because mages don't have it as a spell anymore.

Was talking about the magic resistance tonics m8.

I think it's bad because it's bad. From what people have been finding out, armour is a 1:1 defence ratio to incoming damage. So 23 armour means it negates an additional 23 damage, which is really nothing. So, bad.

As for the magic resistance tonics, maybe they have some use. Tried spirit resistance against Demon Commander, still one hits me. As for the others, they are mostly pointless or so situational that they become pointless IMO. Confusion grenades, healing mists, bees, and even the pitch grenade have value to me as they can be used universally. Resistance to fire? Only a handful of enemies do fire damage, and not enough to really warrant the use of a tonic. Same for electric and cold.

Rock Armor should have increased armor by a %.

Imo mission-length resistance tonics would be much better, and make them selectable AFTER entering a dungeon, because we can't even choose which enemies to face. Mashing potions together for stronger ones would be awesome too. Must have super concentrated jar of bees.

What the hell do any of the previous DA games have to do with his/her opinion of a potion in DAI?

I would use these things if they lasted for a wave or something like that.  As it is I use healing pots and the very rare jar of bees or fire potion or glue potion.

I find the spirit and rock work good against demons. The rock armor may stack with my armor passives though so I am not sure how effective it is for others.

I agree With Veramis. I think potions needs to be made more viable. The only ones that are now are the area of effect and/or damage tonics. Most of them are a Waste of Space. They need to last longer, and they should make more possible to make more factions and more predictable which one you are going to face, so you can bring the potions that would help you on that mission.

F.ex. Fire resistance tonic against dragon faction.

Wouldnt that be great?

Also possibilities to carry more potions via crafting or something similar, and mixing tonics for better effects?

They're pretty bad, yea. The only ones that see to be worth a damn are the healing ones.

I generally carry a fire resistance or spirit resistance potion with me. If you group up everyone gets the effect which is pretty nice. I pop the fire when facing the mage boss ( which really is needed generally) and the spirit when tanking the demon commander. Since I get hit quite a bit while tanking him the damage reduction goes along nicely with my spirit resistance belt when he does his aoe scream. I haven't tested the actual numbers so I can't provide concrete data but I do feel they help.

All resistance potions should be made into one single resist all elements potion.

These just aren't worth bringing at all.

Yah I think increase the duration to a wave instead of 120s will definitely make them more useful. However, I propose that they be made salvageable for crafting materials.

The fact you can't pick your enemies means they're going to be pretty risky if not outright terrible.  If you could choose your enemy type or if elemental damage types were made more common across all enemy factions then they'd be much better, especially at higher difficulties.
