Observations: from kb+m to 360 controller

Positives I have found include:
Looting takes a fraction of the time and effort; it feels like click-to-move.
Rift closure is easier because if I'm close enough a giant green "A" appears on the rift. It's not at all subtle.
I cover ground with less effort.
I can walk. (Took me time to figure that out.)
I can decide to sprint, then slow down smoothly.
My jumping to climb up to resources is more precise and successful.
Equipped items are easier to compare in inventory.
The tendons in my left hand don't hurt anymore.
My cat is thrilled to have more lap real estate.
Negatives I have found include:
Pulling up Map takes two buttons.
Pulling up Journal, Inventory, Character Record etc., takes two buttons and one stick.
Consuming potions requires a bumper, a stick and a button. This is where I really miss my keyboard.
The d-pad is used only for switching characters; this feels like under-utilization of a resource.
Ambivalence provokers:
Controller vibrates on certain actions.
The crafting and inventory UI are still cumbersome.
Edited to add--
Positive: search sonar is conveniently under left thumb by pressing down directly on analog stick.
Negative: no more Quick-save (that I can find)

It's also a lot easier to target in combat with the controller.
Another drawback (though this is more of a design choice) is that you have to do either/or for keyboard/controller. I'd love to be able to hit keys for quick access to some things while still using the controller for control, as a lot of games allow.

Targetting is automatic on keyboard but might end up targetting a mob far away for a melee, or in a direcion you weren't expecting, which I'm finding confusing.
How does this work with a controller?
How do you switch to walking?
EDIT
Why is looting easier? I move over to the loot and click "F". Does the controller let you loot from a distance?

You also can't select objects as easily in tactical camera mode with a controleler, being tied to the camera cursor. With a mouse the two are separate, allowing me to give orders from any camera angle, for one thing, including to targets and locations out of range of the tac cam cursor.
That said, why is looting faster? I just press F to loot then spacebar to loot all (granted, it'd have been better if I could just mash F).

Does not work when using controller on PC. Not sure why.

I was better at keyboard targeting but I think that's experience showing. The controller does have a star-shaped reticule to place by wiggling the left analog stick and it's pretty good at locking on the target I intended. (I don't know why it's called an analog stick. That's what the manual calls it.)Targetting is automatic on keyboard but might end up targetting a mob far away for a melee, or in a direcion you weren't expecting, which I'm finding confusing.

Ah, walking. I felt like a giant idiot with this. At first I was sprinting! everywhere! thinking "this is not stealthy at all." Then I tried pushing on the left analog stick more gently instead of shoving it all the way forward. Voilà! I was walking.

Looting is faster for me because I was having a hard time landing in loot range on the first try with the keyboard. I was doing "the WASD shuffle" in order to loot a lot of the time. If your hand-eye coordination is better than mine you likely don't have that problem.

So for PC games, we need to be able to use controller and keyboard instead of controller disabling keyboard.
Is their any chance of this happening?
I might pick up a Razer controller which apparently has macro options. Looking forward to plugging my PC into the TV and seeing those areas on a big screen.

I would be so happy if this were the case. Alas.

When I am in range of the loot a giant green "A" appears, I hit A then A and loot is collected. With keyboard I'd get the hand icon that meant, "almost, now move closer until I display a circle." For me, this was a slower process. I may have deficiencies not shared by all.

They are called analog sticks because of exactly what you described in your second paragraph lol. They are not digital i.e. on or off like a keyboard. Move it a little it shows only that little movement in the direction you aimed it. Also a downside you missed is jump and loot being mapped to the same button. A LOT of times you'll be hopping around and then accidentally talk to someone behind you or loot things close to you without meaning to. (Example: Talking to someone then you turn around and try to jump over a fence, but instead of jumping over the fence your fall animations glitches out you hover and initiate a conversation. You can moonwalk slide with the glitched animation so that's fun.)

Thanks for answering! This is a useful topic.
Another question. It seems to me that after I reelease the mouse button while attacking, my character keeps attacking. This may be my imagination or it may be Windows storing up the clicks, as it usually does. Did you notice this on controller? Or did the attacking stop as soon as you release the trigger?

Interesting..
Oh about walking, I suppose that makes sense why they couldn't(woudln't?) implement walking on KB then. You can't half press the W key

I think it's wouldn't/didn't. They could have toggled it on/off and I think it would have been nice to have. The controller has been a revelation for me in this respect.

Left thumb button being sonar isn't a positive for me, except in the sense that I'm positive it's going to destroy my left thumb button before this is over.

1) Walk up, mash F, mash spacebar, repeat, done. How is pressing their equivalents on the controller different.
2) The only way you'll have problems closing a rift is if you're literally right under it.
3) Explain.
4) Irrelevant. Potentially for roleplay, extremely limited usage.
5) More irrelevant stuff. Even more so than walking.
6) Wait, what? How, exactly. The mouse still remains the most precise positioning tool available.
7) Tooltips? I don't need to press an extra button to compare stuff.
8) Do you even KB+M? I've spent near hundred hours in SP now, not a single sign of discomfort in my left hand.
9) How is this even remotely relevant to anything gaming-related?

This was one of the main reasons I went back to KB/M. That and the clunky combat with controller.

Feels a lot better with the controller for me, seems like it was designed for controllers tbh. How many times I've double clicked an item only to accidentally select another item because of the auto-centering it does... there's a reason I have a scroll wheel, you don't need to move the list for me, unbidden.
