i was wondering if anyone knows where i find them or what they drop from?

i have some ancient writings but no tomes and i have finished everything in the plains besides that.

They usually drop from the freemen enemies in the exalted plains, while on the requisition quest. If you finished most of the Exalted Plains, there's a group of 3 freemen in the "Ancient bath house"(I think that was the name), where you can probably farm the tomes.

Sorry for the topic resurrection, but I have the opposite problem. Plenty of Tomes, but no ancient Writings.

 

Any ideas where those drop regularly?

You can find alot of Writings in emerald graves.

 

But where is  Ancient bath house?

Ancient bath house is in the Exalted Plains, southwest of the Dalish camp, if I remember right. It's marked as a cave.

You'll get the quest in the Exalted Plains, but you won't find any Orlesian Tomes until you get to the Emerald Graves. Don't ask me why. I don't know.
