So I've been playing for about 80 hours total, and I've noticed something. Gear for the player class is barely dropping.

First I started a Rogue. In perhaps 40 hours, maybe 10 bows dropped, and one recipie dropped. Started a mage, and the same thing. If it wasn't for the permanent, unique staffs, I would be running around with a level 5 staff at level 15.

Same goes for armor. Barely anything drops.

I think I counted 50 other weapon drops in the 4 hours I played tonight. One gray staff dropped all night. No light armor.

So, is the player class loot limited? If yes, why?

10 bows dropped in 40 hours? Damn, I wish I got that lucky. I think I got through about 5 different ones in the whole game. It was as if the game was specifically avoiding giving them to me.

The game is designed to encourage crafting weapons and armour.... meaning you must explore to find the rare and unique items. I found quite a few. Also made items superior to what is normally dropped from crafting materials.

I have noticed you seem to get the same loot from the same areas and situations. For me, its a bit of a shame really, I would much prefer they have class specific loot from said areas and situations, rather than knowing in advance exactly what you will get off the first dragon you fight, every time, or knowing you will get that very specific thing from the astarium reward in the hinterlands...I am all for crafting. But honestly, class specific loot SHOULD be available. I would be happy if it were simply blue stuff that can be bettered via crafting, it would at least be a step up from whites. As for the special purple gear and weapons you can get...too many of them are below level 10. I was in the exalted plains the other day and I looted this one enemy that was level 15...he dropped a lv 9 2 hander something or other...My Iron Bull is lv 17 FFS...

How can I craft a staff when no plans for a staff drop?

I see the same thing.

I do understand that we are encouraged to craft and I like that, however I never get light armour and staff schematics!  I only get rogue & warrior goods.  It is very noticeable.

Same goes with starting a rogue and a warrior.

It would be more encouraging if we could break-down loot into component parts and use those materials to craft new weapons and armor.

For me it's like this;

  • Play a rogue, massive amounts of warrior and mage stuff drops.
  • Play a mage, massive amounts of warrior and rogue stuff drops.
  • Play a warrior, massive amounts of rogue and mage stuff drops.

Seriously, I've probably gotten more swords on my mage then an the entire Qunari armed forced... and I have no idea what those merchants are doing with all that trash. I could've outfitted the entire Inquisition with rare quality weapons, armor and jewelry just by my lonesome self :P

Never had any problems outfitting my party members purely from drops, except those of the same class as me due to the above crappy drop types.

Ofcourse, the really strong stuff is rare in terms of drops. As it should be. Crafting is where it's at if you don't want to depend on RNG or story mission rewards.
