I found the battlemage hood, tier 2, best looking hood ive found so far. Its a random drop schematic, I found it while doing the save/reload trick to the Ferelden Frostback's hoard of chests.

Hey.
Could you explain the details of how to do this? I seem to recall you just loot one item and re-travel to the zone and it will restack items? Is the hoard chest the dragon itself or a chest nearby?
I too really need that hood. Please provide exact details on the method required if you can ![]()

Well I got it after about 2.5 hours.
What you do is go back to the Fereldan Frosback dragon in Hinterlands, kill him, save game.
Then move over the his 3 treasue chests (continue down to the beach, small alcove by the tower by the sea).
Save game, open chests, reload if you don't get what you want. Rinse. Repeast. For 2.5 hours.
EASY. ><

If noone does, I'll post it when I get home, in about 8 hours (at work now).

Color scheme got a bit off. I wanted blood-red or pure black but it turned out "Brown-red-pinkish" or something
Need other crafting mats grrrr...

Abundant weird hoods in DAO. Plethora of odd hoods in DAII (rogue hoods were good). How many hoods in DAI? Two? This I don't understand. Sadness.
I never would have imagined that a hood schematic would have become the most highly coveted item in all of Thedas, yet this is the position in which I find myself. I have farmed chests in Emprise du Lion for hour after hour and come up empty on the damn mage / battlemage cowl schem. I rule an organization with a robust network of spies and a large standing army, and I have significant wealth at my disposal, but getting a hood stitched together for my armor is somehow outside my reach. Beyond belief.

If it helps, I farmed the 3 chests (in an alcove) after defeating the Hinterlands dragon and found the schematics for the hood (among a lot of other neat stuff for my level 12 party) rather quickly.

Unfortunately for me, by the time I realized the hood schematics were a random drop I had long since killed the Hinterlands dragon and looted her treasure. Thanks for the tip, though: I'll be sure to give it a shot in subsequent playthroughs.

Again, this is the fastest way. Clear out still ruins but dont loot any chests. Just complete the mobs and stuff.
Then loot all chests, but remember to leave minimum one item left in the chests.
Exit and re-enter, same as above - until you get it.

I think this one is nice, goes well with the t3 battle mage armor. Unfortunately there is no schematic for it? (anyone can confirm this?) It has 43 armor.
Found at the merchant in the hissing wastes.

Eh I have that Schematic T3 masterwork - will have to check when I'm at home what it's called.

The one from the dog merchant is nice, but really, Battlemage Cowl is so much better looking than any other head slot item, it's not even funny.
On the whole, I'm really not that impressed with armor design in the game.
Even the few armors that look nice are all very similar in design to each other.

Its intentional. Sort of compromise between DAO variety and DA2 uniformity
Bioware wants to enforce certain look on each party member (including the inquisitor) so different armor sets retain same-ish look

It's called the overlord helm. One of the possible stocks at the hissing wastes merchant with the Short List perk.

I decided to roll a rogue for a change of pace. My wife rolls a rogue and it looked like a lot of fun. After I left Skyhold for the first time I noticed I had a mage hood equiped but I didn't do it myself or find it. So that was odd. Then, as I'm exploring Crestwood I find two Battlemage hoods in the keep. Completely random. Now I'm hoping for some schematics to craft these myself. I did craft some Prowler armor that looks really nice with the Battlemage hood. Used fade touched cotton.

Has anyone else noticed inconsistent elf ear clipping through the hoods? The standard-loot Mage Cowl and Battlemage Cowl both cover my female elf inquisitor's ears entirely, but the Battlemage Cowls I've crafted with schematics do not. Weird.

I've seen this subject brought up a few times in other threads so I figured it needed it's own. What's the deal with hoods? Anyone find any good ones? Battlemage and otherwise? Schematics? Drop locations? Let's see what we can figure out.
I found a Battlemage schematic (don't remember where exactly, will check) but on Dorian, it looks gorgeous (or like Assasin Creed
)
